    it's actually pretty nice to hear it's not just redoing what into the breach already did so well. the puzzle-oriented design actually sounds like it'd appeal to some people more than a roguelite (certainly someone i know who was put off by it being so similar to an established roguelite) as for the end-of-video question: do you plan to open a community space for the channel (discord server, forum etc), or are you content with leaving that to the comments section?

    hard to believe we've entered an era where what amounts to a video game adaptation of a meme ends up having some pretty good depth in design good analysis. as a side note though, it's probably worth tossing a link to the game in the description?

    • @Darksmiter
      @Darksmiter 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I usually put a link to the game in the description, but forgot this time. It is there now. But yes, this kind of gives new meaning to meme game, as this feels like a meme, but is really really good and has continuing effort put into it.

    yeah you pretty much hit the nail on the head here. MMOs especially got hit hard by this historically but it's becoming an even more frustrating trend with more recent online-only things especially in the preservation angle even if a game does keep running for a long time it seems in fashion to push so many updates that it's practically unrecognizable from a year or two before. in a perfect world all these versions would be easily accessible (minecraft for example is very good about keeping older versions officially available) but.. not profitable i guess

    • @LiamNajor

      You want to know probably the saddest part? Most of those games could be modified, with trivial effort by the original dev, to run on private servers. If you MUST lock them down, maybe permit the community to continue when you can no longer be bothered?

    • @Darksmiter
      @Darksmiter 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LiamNajorIt always annoys me that there are some games that are just gone forever because they were abandoned by the companies. There are many other issues with this whole thing that I didn't bring up, like some companies hold on to the IP for the game even after they toss the games in the trash in the hopes that they can bring it back at a future date. Or there are situations where studios go under and then the IP gets bought and sold so much that no one knows what happened to it, that happened to System Shock, at least someone recovered that. Video games is still a young art form, the same thing happened in early film, people trashed a lot of the earliest filmed stuff, I think that just more people are less willing to accept that video games are art.

  • @BillNyeTheBountyGuy

    No way this ever happens, but I think US IP law needs to catch up with the times and understand that digital creations are worth preserving like physical products. Either you offer complete refunds for all purchases or you release all materials relating to a product to your customers. And to make sure it doesn't have a knock on effect on small creators say something like $1,000,000 revenue for a given product (including variants and addons). We can even throw in a bonus, if you are depreciating some product you get to, after some window (180 days), wash your hands of legal liability like class action lawsuits or civil damage (if not already in litigation/court filings). The profound loss of digital goods will become more and more of an imperative as much of our lives revolves around software. Don't think it can happen? Look at Rita Leggett, an Australian national who got an experimental brain. This implant changed her life for the better (helping her control and negate her lifelong seizures that prevented her from participating in everyday life). When the company went belly up and had to close down clinical trials they forced this woman to remove this device. Despite legal actions and pleads, they still forced its removal. In a way, they killed Rita Leggett, and only a part of her brillaint flourishing whole now remains. Each of us will have some similar story in the future, let's get it right BEFORE we need the implants guys.

    I just came looking for a sumarization of what is going on in the game, and this was quite a great video I saw from start to end for that! Gotta say, I think Miyazawa is kind of the most confusing ending of the game, since it feels sort of contradictory on her own conviction somehow because of how she gives in to the core of the island, is it what we see in her ending what the Island is forecasting according to what she wants to do? or is it that she gets transformed according to her desire of willing to die from the Hole rather than collaborating with the Island? Also I came to this with the same question that is mentioned at the end with the "red moon" or what also seemed to be either Mars or Venus. since is prolly the least filled gap in the game either by text or by the visual cues, the only think I could think of is another planet suffering from the Hole or some sort of collision with other element from the universe, but seems very unclear to me. Anyways, thank you again so much for making the analysis and even reaching out to the dev for more info!

    • @Darksmiter
      @Darksmiter ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoyed both the game and my video! Someone else came into the comments with a similar feeling to confusion about Miyazawa's ending, and I can see both your points. I suppose it more has to do with her feelings as you enters the core of the island in her ending. I always thought she went down there with the intention of destroying the island and killing whatever it is. I guess that she was hoping to do something to prevent it from following through on what it is doing, but it is something so unknowable to her that she ended up being subsumed by it and kind of giving up. But, this game does allow for different interpretations of the story events. As for the red moon, someone mentioned it has a name in the game files, and I think it might just be "red moon," but I don't remember really. I know there is at least one thing I didn't explore in this game, so I have played with the idea of coming back and doing a shorter companion video covering a few things and mentioning different interpretations others have offer, so maybe... eventually...

  • @Mr.hyde1886
    @Mr.hyde1886 ปีที่แล้ว

    Miyazawa is very confusing, why walk into the portal? It feels like exactly what Rygg would do and does nothing to advance her goals of glorifying the union to the level something like that would require, especially if Dybowski goes as well. Someone has to live to spread the lie and I bet she probably could have gotten Rygg to walk in depending on what kind of connection Rygg had with the higher powers at play. It's also sort of funny that Eldritch is dismissed when Miyazawa seems like she is trying to do exactly what Eldritch fears. She might have improvised the plan on the spot, but that does sort of legitimize a concern of Eldritch's about people in charge.

    • @Darksmiter
      @Darksmiter ปีที่แล้ว

      I always assumed that Miyazawa intended to kill the island, and when she got there it turned out to be impossible. Feels like the meme "you cannot kill me in a way that matters." I think she also has supreme confidence in her capabilities that she just throws herself into a position she cannot possibly, truly, understand and ends up way over her head with no way to really do anything. I think it is interesting that a different person came to this video a few days after you posted this with a very similar opinion about Miyazawa.

  • @Audioworm
    @Audioworm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just got done with this game. Honestly, I feel like it was too short for its premise - which was extremely interesting, but overall, not enough was fleshed out for me. It could've done with more time to develop the characters and all that good shit; as it is right now, you've barely known them for 15 minutes before they start spouting philosophy, and I found it difficult to get invested with them. They're less like *people* and more like vague archetypes. I do appreciate the vivid imagery the game gives you, and I quite like the music. But the endings are far too vague for my tastes; Elridge's cuts off before anything actually really happens, Rygg's left me with only the faintest idea of how she reached her conclusions and with no idea of how we got to where we were at the end of it... And when I first got Miyazawa's ending, I wasn't sure what had even *happened.* (Though I do have an idea after giving it some thought afterwards.) I was pretty excited to piece the lore together through multiple playthroughs, only to find there was barely any lore given to you at all. I do find it hilarious (in a good way) that most of my setting info was acquired through arguing with a conspiracy theorist, but there just wasn't enough for it in my tastes. I would love to sink my teeth into the world of Stars Die, but that world doesn't seem to exist after all. also, I still don't know why it's called Stars Die. But hey, it *was* only $5. I'd say I still got my money's worth.

    • @Darksmiter
      @Darksmiter ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have an analysis video if you really want to see as much as there is from the game. I understand the feeling of how short the game is, which I guess could be my only major complaint. And with multiple play throughs of picking every different dialogue option things run dry kind of quickly. I do know that there is a more fleshed out world for this game, but the creator only put some of it in here, but that doesn't help much when considering you can only experience what exists in this game. Also, I think it is called Stars Die because the world is covered up and no one can see the stars at the end of the game, but I know the real reason is it a refence to an album that influenced the creator.
