    I do use GPT as a glorified Grammarly. I do like GPT's suggestions for small edits more than Gammarly's, for sure. The only thing I could share with others is that GPT will start to hallucinate after submitting for a while since every submission you make includes the previous ones in the current chat you're in. You'll be spending time redirecting GPT back to the topic you want it to focus on, such as tone, spelling, grammar, or even simple sentence rewrites and word replacements as the chat grows. You should consider creating "memories" (if paid subscriber) so it will at least help with some of the tedious tasks of not having to re-ask certain things in new chats. This has been a huge help. As for my prompt/memories, I just ask it to make sure my prose is a balance of beige/purple, that it's in past tense, it's not in passive voice, and check general stuff like spelling/grammar, tone; and also to make sure dialogue tags aren't used when they don't need to be, to cut down on "he/she said." I also ask it to help to make my writing read smoother and a lot more natural. For example, when I read something that's very concise, it feels like words are missing because when I read the text, carrying one word to another, the conciseness tends to be omitting words, making it feel like I am hitting speed bumps as it jumps to the next word. I will have GPT add extra connecting words to maintain a consistent, natural flow of words as I speak them. It's been very helpful for this. I don't let GPT write my stuff for me, I feed it all that I have in chunks at a time and then let it analyze it for me. 80% of the time, its suggested rewording isn't good. But overall, it's great at doing some real-time checking and analyzing of my work. I'm glad this tool exists.

  • @TXVETJEB
    @TXVETJEB 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Proofreading with chatgpt is a HUGE advantage over other tools like prowritingaid and gramerly. It's way faster as you don't have to look through and accept or reject the suggested edits. Your promps can be specific like the one I use for proofreading. "Pleae edit the following text as a fiction proofreader. Check for spelling, gramar,and punctuation only. Do not make any changes for clarity or flow. NO copy or line edites. Proofreading only, and also please sumerize all changes you made at the end of hte text by listing those changes under Spelling, gramer and punctionation. Give the number of changes under each catagory, and what those changes were." Yep, it's a bit wordy, but it was developed by experience. I don't want the AI rephrasing any of my work. I only want it to proofread. You can also inject a request to use a specific manual of style if you are in say the UK or Canada, vs the US. It does it immediately and will output text faster than you can copy it back to your document, so It's a HUGE advantage over other programs. And finally, DON'T use and AI wo write your outline or the body of your story. It's unethical and you won't be taken serously as a writer. If you want to write, write it yourself and use the AI to edit.

    The way I see using LLM's for fiction writing or any writing for that matter is by asking this question. How is using LLM's any different than having a ghost writer? I can have an idea and pay someone to write it for me then I have to approve the text and request changes and that is a completely legitimate way to produce a book or song. So how is using AI any different?

    Totally agree with your review! As someone who's been using Gemini and Claude directly for a while, Sudowrite feels restrictive. I'm a pantser, and having to work with chapters instead of scenes really messes with my flow. The multiple AI models are a plus, especially for romance where Claude's off-limits. But watch out for those credits - they disappear fast! I blew through half a million just getting my existing series loaded and correctly outlined. Right now I'm also testing Novelcrafter, and honestly, I wish I could just mash them together and have the best of both worlds! 😂

    Is it better to have a first draft that's too short or too long?

    • @SydneyFaithAuthor
      @SydneyFaithAuthor 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd say neither is inherently good or bad! Generally "Pantser/Gardener" type writers are more likely to have a first draft that's longer than they want/need, and "Outliner/Plotter" type writers are more likely to have shorter first drafts. Just figuring out what your story needs during that first edit, if that's generally more words or generally less words, is key.

    No clue the negative thumbs for this video. This video remains spot-on about the limitations of using ChatGPT to "write" your book, even with the numerous updates over the past year. I used ChatGPT to help me convert, create, and organize 80 pages of notes for a sequel to a previously published book of mine. Despite explicitly instructing ChatGPT to follow the Hero's Journey structure when generating story beats for each chapter, it often went off track. It created interactions with siblings even though I specified that my protagonist was an only child, lost track of or invented new names for the protagonist's parents, randomly changed character genders mid-story, throughout the book reused names for multiple characters, and overused certain phrases throughout. If I see one more "beacon of hope" or "murmured in agreement" in a book or article I think I'm going to pluck my eyes out. Argghhh!!! ChatGPT also forgot that milestones had been reached and resolved, reintroducing them in later chapters as if they had never happened. In short, ChatGPT frequently "hallucinated" content that didn't belong and made significant errors with the content that did. So yes, this video detailing her experience using ChatGPT is an accurate warning against expecting to turn out a quality novel simply by pasting prompts into AI. Not gonna happen. At least probably not any time soon. Extensive rewriting is still required on every page of the output. I had to print and read and re-read all 491 pages of my sequel plus order a proof copy to feel confident I found all the mistakes ChatGPT made even when I entered specific details I explicitly told ChatGPT not to alter. It took weeks of hand editing and many nights awake till 1, 2, 3am to fix it all. ChatGPT is an aid to writing. Like using flashcards for ideas. Not an end result producer. Thanks for the video :thumbs up: and subscribed.

    The true value of self publishing is priceless. Don’t have to answer to anyone, no need to make changes you don’t want to, can make the choices of what happens to your book, and no need to make a deadline they set up. Also, less people taking from your pie. Downside is making it an audiobook lol can be $0 but you give up half of your royalties to around $4,000 depending on size of novel. Only salvation is most of the cost is in small monthly payments for X amount of months.

    Left out, get someone or something to read it out loud to you. There could be things that are grammatically correct but sound bad cause you over used a word. It’s how I made less mistakes in my second novel lol. And, your first book no matter what will be your worst as you will get better as you write more. It is why some writers go back to it and make new edition to older titles. But great vid lol to bad every new writer will make at least one of them. Mine was rushing. There's so many fun ways to do Elective Monarchy, and several real world examples like the HRE, and the Tanistry System to take inspiration from. Anyway, sticking to fiction. In Eric Ugland book series the good-guys there's an empire called Glaton, centered around the city of Glaton and founded *(but not always ruled by) the Glatons. The Empire of Glation has a senate made up of all the landed aristocracy, with "seats" (votes) being given to the direct vassals of the Emperor, the vassal structure functioning like this: The Emperor > Archdukes > Dukes > Counts, etc. There also exists Imperial Dukes, which are dukes that are the direct vassal of the Emperor (might also be there could be Imperial Counts, I don't remember). Anyway the senate works like this each Archduke gets a number of seats, traditionally seats are given to their vassals as part of their feudal contract, and this can go down multiple steps. Imperial Dukes also gets a share of seats. I can't tell you the system to determine how many seats each Archduke/Imperial Duke gets but it seems archaic. There's two more seat holders, the Emperor gets a number of seats equal to that of all the landed aristocracy, and the Major of the City of Glation gets one vote meant to act as a tiebreaker. Now on the Death of the last Emperor the senate votes to elect a new one. The Emperor can designate an heir who receives all of the Emperor's votes posthumously, however, if the rest of the senate all vote to overturn the decision of the old Emperor they can, and then they can make a new vote for Emperor without the old Emperor's vote. A vote for a new Emperor needs to pass a certain threshold, either a majority, or a two-thirds majority (not including the old Emperor's vote), I don't remember.

    What of the word count for a short story collection?

    • @SydneyFaithAuthor
      @SydneyFaithAuthor 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on your preferences and genre! I'd look at popular short story collections in your genre to get an idea of what readers expect, and go from there. If you look at an ebook on amazon and take the "Print Length" number, (amazon's estimation based on the ebook) and multiply that by 250, you can get a rough idea (not exact!) of a book's wordcount. From what I've seen, a lot of short story collections are Novella length, so anywhere between about 20,000 and 50,000 words.

    You really have to cut the text it creates and use Word to heavily rewrite it until there is 0% AI detected.

    I don't get it why people critique AI so much. Many authors steal ideas from other authors entirely and that is thought okay but using ai not. So for editing purposes i use ai.

      Yea,ai is much better then those 5 doller fiverr editors. And ai does it for entirely free.

    Do you copyright your 2nd or 3rd draft before getting beta readers to read and critique? Scared of someone being able to steal my book once I give them the draft for beta reading etc.

    I’ll admit, I’ve used it. The entire rough draft of my current novel was written with ChatGPT, though I revised it to reflect my own style. I’m on my second draft, this time writing it on my own, though still using ChatGPT as a brainstormer when I’m stuck, or for feedback.

    Brainstorming session turning into messy wiki pages, I can relate! I have to ask myself, do I need this info for my project or am I saving some idea for a possible future idea. I am having fun (sort of) with Obsidian + GPT and Perplexity, it can also be a distraction.
