Welcome to my flying videos! I started in the hobby in the summer of 2017, and have started a collection of scale planes ranging from the 800mm wingspan to the 1450mm ones. I don't do unboxings, builds, or "reviews", so to say. This is just my RC flight diary. Videos are recorded with my GoPro at 1080p 60fps and are uploaded raw and unedited in chronological order. Each model has its own playlist, and the Description of each video will have details on the equipment being used and any modifications done.

What was your flap mix numbers? I'm about to maiden mine and wouldn't mind having a starting mix.
Best of luck on your maiden. I use the Radiomaster TX16s bound to a FrSky RX6R receiver and have the Flaps and mix set on their own curves. Below is my setup. Flaps curve -100 -> -65 -> -35 Flap mix 0 -> 6 -> 9
That was a long flight what size of 6s lipo are you using, did you do a amp test ? I have the flyfly F22 and don't think i will have enough power with my old wemotec setup with 5000mah 6s . Thanks ,nice flying site.
This flight was with the Roaringtop 5500 Mah packs. I've since gone to the SMC 6000 Mah packs. Nah, no amp test. Not familiar with the flyfly F-22. Much appreciated, the club members maintain it well.
Love this plane, but it appears to be a little too high maintenance. Are these repairs you mention at the outset, the result of having one bad landing?
Likewise! Loved this plane, but too high maintenance flying off a grass field for my taste. The main gear reinforcements were done prior to maiden. All the other fixes and replacements were done after a number of bad landings. This model flies real well and stable but I was having trouble landing this one. I think I only got 1 or 2 good landings with this. But another fellow club member is the proud new owner of this model.:)
@@frankflyrc Great, let's wish new blood some good luck...
@@davidgerlach1132 The best of luck to you, fellow flyer! Wishing you good flights and landings!
@@frankflyrc Another question, more of an odd comparison. If you have an idea, how does, or do you suppose this F-14 Tomcat 64mm handles in comparison to the Freewing JAS-39 Gripen 80mm?
@@davidgerlach1132 That's a good question but I have no idea how the JAS-39 feels. A club member had one a while back, and he loved it. But I haven't flown a delta model, yet. The first 'Death Dorito' model I'm going to maiden the next time I'm able to make to the field is the 90mm J-10.
Stabilator? What the heck is a stabilator? I know it as an Stabilizer.
Just add 'elevator' in the mix and you get, stabilator! Stabilizer + Elevator
Great flight, love the Freewing 80mm F-14 Tomcat and purchased recently, all setup and ready for my maiden flight. I've seen recommendations for up elevator and down elevator mixes for the F-14. Can you share what if any, flaps to elevator mix you have found effective with your flying experience would be greatly appreciated. I enjoy your flight videos!
Thank you much! I wish I had a little more time with this model since this video was only the 18th time I flew it as my fellow club member, Jorge is the new owner. Just checked my radio to see if I could answer that question but I've already deleted that profile. I don't think I had any flap mix. As heavy as I had it, it was a real stable flyer in the air. Very 'scale' like. Wish you the very best on your maiden any many happy landings!
this is on my list of planes I need
Oh no! So sorry Frank!
Thanks Shadow! That was an unfortunate flight.
@@frankflyrc What happened if I may ask Frank?
@@keithstalder9770 After watching that video, I think I got too slow in that turn and stalled out. I'm guessing I thought I had sufficient speed at the time, but the video shows I was pretty slow. It was flying perfectly that day...until that last flight.
Sorry Frank!
Nice flight Frank!
Thank you, sir!
Well done, as always Frank!
Thank you much Shadow! It was feeling pretty solid on this flight!
Nice love the F-4
I do, too! But it turned out to be an unfortunate trip to the field! Bad crash on Flt 22!
@frankflyrc oh man I'm sorry..I know the feeling. I hope you can repair it, haven't seen that vid yet..
plane is too far away to see much.
Hey there. Were these servos a direct drop in fit?
The silicone sleeve/wire protector that comes out of the servo needs to be cut and removed with an x-acto knife. Once removed, the servos are a drop in fit. One of them also needs to be reversed.
This plane has been a nightmare for me. Bad esc, control board and motor. Now I can't get anything to function right. 600 dollar loss here. Good to see it in the air though.
Sorry to hear about the unfortunate experience with with yours. Thanks for the good comment. I thought I was about to lose this one, too! Glad it didn't turn out too bad. Just a small bend in the right main gear, and the nose cone knocked off. Surprisingly, the LGs on this have been pretty durable as it's had a few hard landings prior to this one.
The camera work was outstanding 😂! Nice landing
Nice landing clip you took!
was there a crosswind? Looks like you got close to the trees.
Nah, no crosswinds. Yeah, got pretty lucky on this landing! Glad it wasn't worse than what it was. Just the nose got knocked off.
Incredible LANDING
Thank you much!

Just checked it out! Awesome flying and great landings! Always fun having a few jets fly together! The more, the merrier!:D
Yeah, mine cracked in the same spot as well! Nice work though!
I hear ya! Yeah, one hard landing, and that part of the fuse easily cracks from the weight up front holding the battery. I ended up reinforcing that part of the fuse, right below where the canopy sits, with a popsicle stick! Cheap and effective item!:D
@@frankflyrc Great idea! I was going to mention this issue in the forums but decided not to create a fuss. It's a design flaw, but the popsicle stick idea is perfect.

Thank you much, sir!
That 70 F16 is garbage off of grass. I own one and wish I didn’t.
It can be tough to take off on grass. It usually does good if it's short and dry. But it was one of my favorite models to fly.
Good thing it is still going strong by the looks of it, it doesnt seem like it needed a lot to get if the ground. How much runway do you recogn it uses?
Yeah, just a little minor damage. All fixed up now. I think our runway is 300 feet. This model uses maybe a little more than half that distance to rotate.
Nice video Frank. This is John. You caught my F16 taking off and landing.
Thanks John! Glad I was able to get those in the shot! See ya at the field!
why dont u try the 8s version?
I'm good with the 6s since I already have a set of 4 of those. I'm not trying to get 4 pairs of 4s packs, or find 4 6000 mah 2s packs to pair with the current 6s ones I already have.
@@frankflyrc 👍🏻 then try 12s lol
I’m on my 2nd one, awesome plane
Very nice! Still have mine, too!
Where do you get the carbon upgrade parts
Greetings wades5thscaleforlife872! There are no carbon upgrade parts installed on this model. If you're referring to the carbon reinforcements done on the F-14, I ordered 2 sheets (0.5mm) and glued them together so they actually measured out to around .75mm. Let me know if that helps, or if you're referring to something completely different.
Is smc good?
I've had no problems with them. I use the regular lipo packs. Not the high voltage ones.
I have not flown mine yet. How hard is it to fly and land. Is it harder then your F-4
This model's flies awesome! Very stable, as long as the CG isn't too far aft. The factory mark was used and it tracks well in the air. Keep in mind, I fly this manual and the on-board gyro is disabled and don't use any other stabilizer. But this one's been giving me fits trying to land. It tends to bounce at touchdown for me, resulting in nose overs, or ground loops. I've only had one decent landing with this one. On the other hand, the F-4 feels harder to fly, but I don't seem to have a problem landing it. I'm actually still working on trying to figure out where to place the CG in this model. The factory marking for this one is too far aft for my comfort. But the last trip out to the field felt too nose-heavy for me after I moved the CG close to 20mm forward. So yeah, still trying to figure this one out. IMHO, neither one of these models are suited for new/beginner EDF flyers. Hope this helps and the best of luck on your maiden! Just let me know if you have any questions about this F-14, or F-4.
You have any content about set safe mode for landing gear? Like when throttle is Disarmed, you cant retract the gears
Unfortunately, I don't really do 'content' videos. They're more like my RC flight diary videos, if you will. I put what I use in the Description field of the videos. They're mainly hardware related, and cover any modifications I've made to the models I have, or have had. I use the Radiomaster TX16s radio, and was paired with an FRSky RX6R receiver for this model. There was no stabilizer/gyro used and was flown completely manual at, 100% High rates -> 80% Mid rates -> 60% Low rates. Expo at High rates was at 30% -> Mid rate Expo was at 20% and Low rate Expo at 10%. Those percentages were used across all control surfaces. Hope this helps if you have this model.
Good flight, even if we had some rough landings
Very true! The flying was definitely fun! But the landings, tho! You're the only one that came out of that one unscathed!:D
So cool! Well done Frank, thank you!
Always fun with more jets in the air!
Great landing!
Thank you much!
I just picked this plane up used from a guy and he said it flew fine but very tame and underpowered for a 3D plane. I just maidened it and thought the same thing and immediately thought it would open up on 6S. For instance, I can't do infinite climbs as it stalls after a few seconds going straight up and I see you fly mostly pattern with a roll here and there so maybe you haven't really pushed it beyond just a pattern flyer, but have you tried 6S at all?
Nah, just 4S. It's been sold to a fellow club member. It felt more like a 'trainer/aerobatic' plane. But I think it mostly has to do with the smaller motor/esc combo, plus the more 'scale like' 3 blade prop setup. I have the E-flite Extra 300, and it's a very similar platform, but has more power to play with since it comes stock with a higher powered motor and plus a 2 blade prop.
@@frankflyrc yeah, same here. Just flew my extra 300 today and it's a completely different plane and crazy fun and so much power and tumbling comparatively. Thanks for the validation.
I would wager that FreeWing makes at least 90% of its revenue from nose gear sales!
Hahaha! I can believe that!:D
Thats the same thing Im doing at my field Im new at a 1000ft long field to get my landings improved in a sweet spot area and I will tell you learning to fly is best with the older guys at my field they know it best on how to fly and much more!!
Nice flying Frank, thank you!
You've had bad luck again. Keep your ears stiff and think of the beautiful flights
Appreciate the good words! Fortunately, it was just the nose gear that needed replacing and is now ready to go back flying!
Nice flying and with the new setup the plane seems to have unlimited vertical. What prop are you using with the 4S? and does the stock motor support 4S?
Thank you much! The extra power allows this model to cruise around at around 40 - 50% throttle and pretty much has unlimited vertical. The motor and prop are stock. I think the stock esc can handle 4S, but I changed it out just for a little extra peace of mind.
@@frankflyrc I bought the 1700mm and my ESC (stock 45A FMS predator) caught fire after a totally normal flight. It did happen while the plane was upside down, but I also inverted it in the air. Might get a spektrum avian 45amp to replace it. How did you get in there to the ESC? Don't have easy access in mine...
@@misaelramos83 That sucks your ESC caught fire! The ZTW ESC 45A ESC I replaced the stock 40A one with is only slightly larger. The cowl and motor needed to be removed to access the ESC to change it out. Hopefully your upgraded ESC will work without issue.
I fly 4S and it's fine as long as you don fly all flight 100% throttle everything shoud be good. I fly 4S when i get it and to this time everything is good(about 6 months).
Frank I just bought the same plane and I’m wondering if this plane can fly with 3s 1300 mah battery and what time I I should expect.Thank you ❤
Congratulations on your new bird! A 1300 mah battery might be too light and it may be on the tail-heavy side. I would like to put at least a 3s 2400 battery in to get a better balance on the CG. Best of luck to you on your maiden!
What transmitter are you using and is it the transmitter taking. I am thinking of getting a ix12 dmsx
I use the RadioMaster TX16S transmitter, and a FrSky Rx8R Pro receiver.
Hi Frank! I've been watching all your videos because I just picked up one of these used and I'm afraid to maiden until I can get the CG right... Any chance you can give me an idea on where to put a 3200 to get this thing to fly right? The sticker in the compartment wants it just in front of the servos, but it could be pushed all the way into the nose as well...? Did you end up having to add any weight? Hoping you can remember after 5 years!😂
Greetings EastCoastLtd! I believe the CG was placed a little further forward than factory. I'm pretty certain I was using Admiral 4000 batteries. The 3200 you have is probably a good deal lighter, and would need to be placed further forward. I don't remember adding additional weight. I would start with the CG a little more forward, and move it back if you feel it's too nose-heavy. Best of luck on your maiden, and many happy landings to follow!
One of my favorite jets😊
Nice job! Not the easiest thing to do.
Thank you much! Always fun with more EDFs!
All the F-16s are notorious about tipping over. Just the nature of the beast! How the heck did you get that flight time out of a 4400 though?😒
Haha! Can't disagree! Gears are on a pretty narrow track! My timer's set to 4:45. I also don't do extended times of max throttle on the regular. I generally come down around 3.7 - 3.75 volts per cell.
What was your previous set up in the f-22? Do you notice more thrust with the new motor and fan?
The original motor was the 9-blade one this model was sold with. There is a noticeable increase in thrust with the newer 12-blade motor, especially when going vertical. But I can't tell any difference in top speed. Granted, I don't do many sustained max throttle runs.
Great job Frank!
Thanks, Shadow! Your good vibes are always much appreciated!
Hi Frank thanks for your video on the F4u mods. I was given one in rough shape its repairable and I want to give it a go. How do I remove the engine cowling if possible, so that I can repair the engine mount. any suggestions on removal and repairing would be of great help. Thank you.
Greetings, and Congrats on your new acquisition! There are screws on the sides of the plastic cowl. I'm not sure if there's a third screw on the bottom. All you need to do is remove those screws, and pull the plastic cowl off. Hope this helps, and good luck with your new Corsair!
I may have to add this to my stable one day. Looks like very impressive power for a twin 64.
It flies very well! I think you'll be happy with it if you do pick one up!
