@@petahawk Thanks for watching! I appreciate your feedback. As for the idea of innovation, I believe that it is overrated from a musical standpoint, especially in Techno music production. It’s like the idea of chasing perfection, it is impractical, time- consuming, and strips you of your identity. We live in an age where technological innovation is high and creativity is impacted by transformative shifts in technology in a way where it SHOULD improve our creative efficacy but it hasn’t. Even with this (re)evolution in art, many struggle to develop a creative voice, failing to exhibit a visual and musical language that is uniquely their own. I can attest to this. The process of achieving it can be overwhelming, often hindered by the burdens of comparison culture where perfection, innovation, and commodification prevent us from developing a creative voice. Yes, there will be instances when some artists introduce new ideas and push a respective genre forward, but I assure you, what they present will be derivatives of older ideas and reimagined through their lens. For the tracks in my mix, the producers are actually bringing it back to the core, the groove. The very essence of what makes Techno. As a DJ, my objective is always to find the perfect beat, ones that give me space, time, and the imperfections in-between to manipulate in a mix, allowing for a reinterpretation and a reimagining of the music in the moment. These tracks present the opportunity to do that, returning back to the fundamentals of Techno where we leave it all on the dance floor. Sometimes going back to the basics is innovation in itself.
