United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ก.ย. 2018
I'm a busy "Old Guy" who loves music and guitars. This channel is geared to everyone, but especially us busy guys and gals, on a budget, looking for a fun TH-cam channel to learn about music and gear.
All the gear that I use to play/record/make content with was bought by me, so this channel has no corporate bias. As my channel grows, I hope to keep everything I do and talk about as bias free as possible.
Enjoy and comments on how to improve the channel are always welcomed!

HX Stomp: Clean Tones

Put together 5 clean tones that I think sound great and are very versatile. I forget to mention that I used my #1 Fender American Standard Strat for all the clips. Either the neck or neck/middle pick up engaged.

My New Micro Studio!

I knew it would be years before being able to rebuild my studio, so I decided to use the family room and create a small studio with some digital gear so I can continue to play and have fun.
FLOOD!
มุมมอง 2635 ปีที่แล้ว
My basement/studio flooded after a huge storm in our area that dumped 5 inches of rain in an hour. Never had this happen before, even after many, many storms. Studio damaged/ruined, guitar build damaged by moisture, pedal board underwater. Hopefully will be able to salvage my studio gear, but not sure yet. I'll hopefully be back once get the basement redone. Stay tuned!!

putting together my duo 24 today, this was really helpful!
Good info💯
Is it completed yet?
Us old dudes got to stick together and help each other. I, of course, don’t have the stones to video my first attempt at a veneer top, so thanks from all us grandpa guys for taking the first licks for us. Kudos to you, sir.
Thanks for this effort. I am about to attempt the same with a quilt top veneer, and I can see where applying too dark or deep of a base coat requires too much sanding, so I will definitely first, not sand so much beforehand, second thin down the dye about 50%,and third, precoat the top with either water or neutral to assure the black doesn’t penetrate too deep past the first layer of veneer. Very touchy area working with these veneers and your video showed me exactly how far I can go without burning the veneer, which is about the hardest mistake to cover up once it is burned through. Looks great man, thanks for taking the chances I was too nervous to take myself
Dude, this video is NOT COMPLETE until you fully polish the finish!!!!
I could be wrong, but many people say that you should wipe on the Tru-Oil and then wipe it off straight away for a great finish. Use as many coats as required wiping each coat off soon after it is wiped on. Buff with 0000 steel wool or a scouring pad when dry between coats. Any comments are welcomed. Cheers...
How thin was the veneer on the guitar? I'm going to stain my LP kit, but it is very thin and also has what I's describe as stress marks on the wood which I wan to sand smooth, but afraid to sand through the veneer, DId you use wood filler or sealer on the veneer?
Don’t sand any more than absolutely necessary beforehand, and thin the dye down and wipe back quickly. Also using neutral first and color while still wet will keep color from going too deep. Then only sand back what is absolutely necessary, because hiding the burned through spots on a veneer is not for the inexperienced or faint of heart. Better for the stain job to look a bit off than to burn through the veneer.
Veneer is usually about 1/8” to 3/16” thick. Not much.
@@WilliamLassley Thank you! I think I'll go for a better body and neck for my next project
I have ability to pick this exact guitar up used locally for a great deal.you may have sealed the deal for me now with your great review, after you said shes a keeper.i think i made my mind up also...thanks again...any chance you can tell me what locking tuners you installed? Ill probably want to change them also
Right on, I mean who needs key signatures anyway! 🤘
I just did a test run on a scrap of cherry. Three hours in between coats and rubbing with steel wool and it's fantastic. I let it sit in the sun which probably sped things up but it's amazing right now
Thanks for doing this. Very helpful.
Great vid, is there a reason why you don't finish the body and neck in true oil ?
Do you do any finishing after the tru oil? If so, what proccess/tools do you reccomend for finishing over tru oil?
Great video. Informative.
Where’s part 1 and 2?
I really like Tru Oil finished. That one I did was only 4 good coats and then I polished it with old school Johnson's floor wax. Beautiful.
It would be kinda funny if the background music was opera
What are you guys doing to buff
I put a voodoo labs mondo under mine. The only thing is that it’s so fat you can’t mount any pedals with the pedal mounts where it is. I will have to consider Velcro at the one spot where it is
What is Nafta and how is it different than mineral spirits ?
Naptha
The most terrible sound I have ever heard from this amp!
Nice work,nice guitar.
LOOKING LOVELY ,GREAT JOB
Did you have to a grain filler before the tru oil?
I received my orangewood rey last night. It was packed ok. Not great but no damage to the box so it was in great shape. How are they selling this for 139 bucks? This is a nice guitar. Decent fit and finish and the blems is small I had to be super picky and thorough. Most will not even notice. And out of the box, it plays well. The action is a little high for my taste but it plays much better than I expected. I opted for the kit as well. I never use nylon strap so I bought a nice leather one. But the kapo picks and picks holder as well as winder and the digital tuner were worth the extra money as well the gig bag is fantastic. I cannot say enough how great it is. Strings suck though as expected. I put ernie ball edgewood on it. I never use factory strings. Your video was instrumental on my purchase. I am stuck in a hospital room for 100 days. And wanted a decent practice guitar that if something happened to it I would not be hugely upset. So thanks.
I did a gun stock, I did sorta what you did, but I did about 25 layers. The more and more it starts looking like deep glass. I used 5000 grit between layers and sanded. I sanded with 5000 and 10000 and wheel buffed it. It’s slow slow process people that want to do this don’t rush it, it took me 2 months to do mine. I’m thinking of doing an acoustic guitar.
Awesome mate! I’m getting one. Lol 😅❤ Nice chops too, Brother! Cheers!
Hi.. Im torn between this and the hot road deluxe IV. The BB 30R seems it has a clean tone more similar to my marshall dsl40cr, than the classic fender clean...
Tangerine!
Great video. Thanks.
Lighting is terrible
both poor lighting and grainy resolution unfortunately. I cannot really see the quality of the finish
Wow,labor intensive!!
How much was this guitar retail when it came out?
Your vibe is reminiscent of Al Borland from Home Improvement/Tool Time. In particular the parts where he is the knowledgeable one and Tim is the goof
what song are you playing?
How to applyng veneer on too lespaul?
What a jam great review
Appreciate you sharing this. It was nicely made and helpful.
Great video , I’m doing a Warmoth build with a quilt maple carved top, and have been trying to decide on a finish , Tru-Oil seems like a lot of work but I might try it, so did you finish the mahogany back with stung oil ?
This is the first video I saw on this channel. Great content!! Subscribed, number 951. 😁🎸🎶
Rubber glove and rub
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Great review! So the player series teles already have holes routed for in headstock for the locking tuners?
Great thing to use to spread is a mr. Clean magic eraser. You will get a perfect finish with no abrasions.
Zeroes not O O O O
If you’re using the Pedal Power bracket, can you mount pedals directly above the power supply or is there not enough clearance between the board and the power supply for the thumb screws? I have a Pedal Power Mondo that’s massive and I’m worried that it’s going to use up all that real estate.
Free tip - store your true-oil with the bottle upside down. It puts the oxygen at the bottom of the bottle and keeps you from having to deal with a hard layer sitting at the top.
Could you have sanded the neck block so the neck laid against the body so you wouldn’t have to use filler?
Nice track, very useful. Good content man, new follower here. Check my channel if you get the chance for some music stuff too. Cheers!
