Our Homesteading Adventure: Building a Self-Sufficient Lifestyle... Together 🌱🌻🍁❄️
Philip dreamed of a place that he could build a self sufficient life. A little piece of land where he could hunt, work the land and build a home he could be proud of. His dream began to become reality when he purchased the first 40 acres of Kowalski Mountain in 2016.
I met Philip online in 2018. I grew up on a small, hobby farm. While I loved the outdoor lifestyle, I was stuck in my urban life, far from my roots and the lifestyle I loved.
It’s hard to deny that Philip and I were meant for each other. We make a great team! We seem to be able to accomplish more than the average couple in record time.
We moved full time to our off-grid homestead in September of 2023.
This is our journey, the victories and the challenges . Thanks for joining us.
Welcome! We’re Philip and Barbra-Sue Kowalski

I LOVE your "Coop Cozy". It looks so tuff, like it will stand up to the elements. Can you use some type of fastener (like zippers or velcro, but to equally stand up to the elements) to be able to remove sections as the weather warms or to add sections as it cools?
I love the term Coop Cozy! Zip ties are my go to fasteners. Thanks for watching
Seems to me your time would have been spent somewhere else rather than sewing bags together. Tarps are really cheap at Harbor Freight, and if luck was with you they might last for a couple of years. Time is money and although you saved some money, you time is much more valuable. After all, you can't buy more time, but tarps are very cheap, and readily available. Just my two-cents.
Certainly the American way. Appreciate you watching
I have pens made of metal fencing. Am unable to staple anything to them unfortunately.
It would still work but you’d have to sew more custom. Would certainly be more challenging.
Use it up, wear it out. Make do, do without. My moto
Yes! Adrien commented on several things he couldn’t believe i still had. I’m like why would I get rid of it.
Fantastic video. In future, please consider editing out the word 'now' from beginning of the phrases. It is used so often that it's irritating and distracting. Otherwise, good work.
One of the things about YT is you do become aware of all of your annoying habits…. 😂 thanks for watching

Do the different grinds feel different than each other?
Not significantly…. Very, very similar.
I love them when they are green. I have one waiting for me to either freeze or cook. I'll peel it, and treat it as a savory squash, more like a potato, maybe with garlic, onions, salt pepper. I wish I knew how to freeze it, don't know whether to blanch it in cubes or not.
Oh cool! We tried them Green and weren’t fans. Glad you enjoy them.
Hard to believe I've never made Snickerdoodles.
Oh my! It is!
Your ground flour looks AMAZING! It even looks beautiful flowing out of the grinder now I want a mill, lol... Great tip...cooking with your children, I always bake sugar cookies with my grandchildren, they look forward to it every year!
Thank you! Baking with the grands is so much fun! Missing mine….
So dent corn is okay in the Nutrimill Harvest?
Yes, all non-oily grains.
You are so ambitious with all your handmade items! So impressed! Now off to research this mixer you have 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you! I did a review video on my mixer. You can see it here. th-cam.com/video/KBqHT7YpFuY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fePHcGlGNuPctIfr
Make sure the edge of the jar is clean and dry before putting lid on...wipe it down around the opening of the jar with a dry cloth
You're right! Cleanliness is key for a good seal.
One of my earliest memories of snickerdoodles was someone in my family accidentally added way too much salt...they were awful! I'm sure yours are yummy!
Oh gosh! That would make you think twice before trying again. 😂

Thanks for informative video on Tallow balm. just getting into rendering. each time you went back to smelling the bowl I kept telling myself, she's gonna add more almond! LOL

Adds name to the list of soap purchasers.
😊
Great job!! That looked a little sketchy at times when you climbed up there! Glad you got it done safely. Since most of your supporting structure is wood instead of metal, how long do you expect it to last? I have a wooden fence at home that was put up in 2008 and some of the treated 4x4 posts have already rotted so much that they broke near ground level. Sealing them every year wouldn't help because they rotted below ground. I'm moving to a more rural area early next summer and I'll be installing 21000 watts of solar panels. I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting an all metal solution. Hmmm decisions!
He expects to get about 5 years out of it…. He burned all the legs that are in the ground which will prevent rot issues. It was pretty sketchy at times putting it up. 😊
Thank you so much for your informed skills and experience with making real vanilla extract. This is a whole new realm..... All together. To accustomed to prepare convenience foods. This was enlightening thank you so very much. See you next time.
Ahhhh thank you! Appreciate you. Watching
Great comparison. You raised issues I hadn't even thought about. Thanks so much. Margie, Eddie and Colleen Guy from southern Maryland. ' Hanging with the Guys '
I’m so glad it was helpful! Appreciate you watching.
Wow I am impressed. That is some kind of hard work and determination. Congratulations on what you have accomplished
It was a lot of work and we’re still in the learning process. Thank you for your kindness 😊
What is a honey super or honey excluder?
A honey super is a box of frames dedicated to honey production. The queen bee cannot access the box to lay eggs because a queen excluder prevents her from entering. She’s larger than worker bees. They can pass through but she can’t. So the box will only be used for honey storage.
@@KowalskiMountainso that's why ya didn't pull any so that they'll have food for the winter?
@@tanyabrillhart6608we didn’t pull honey because there wasn’t enough. The bees need it for the winter.
