I had UTI many years ago and treated with Antibiotics and I have a mild pain in right kidney since. Now I have fresh blood (a few drops) at end of urination. Any suggestion on what is going on? Shall I take another course of antibiotics to remove the chance that I might have a mild infection in kidney. My kidney function is normal and eGFR is 117. Blood glucose normal too 82 although BP is high 150. If antibiotics, which one shall I take. Thanks a lot for your advice 🙏.

Hi Dr. Tan, My MRI prostate report shows that my Transition zone has PI-RADS 5 and the Peripheral zone has PI-RADS 2. Should I go for a biopsy as I am 69 years and 1 month old now! Am I suitable for the biopsy at this age ?? Please advice🙏 From: James

I am going to be getting a biopsy soon. I am going to ask for a xanax before they numb up the area. Hopefully it will calm my nerves.

TRUS biopsy may infection, no cure for severe e-coli infection. TRUS can cause incontinence. TRUS can also cause permanent ED, puncturing the vascular nerve bundle, our urologist told us that. 6 weeks to recover, not 2 weeks, it’s a surgical procedure. Also a chance of ‘seeding’ cancer if a cancer cell is deposited from the prostate into the rectum. Minimum 12 cores taken, the biopsy needle is not changed or cleaned in between each sample, so a ‘dirty’ needle inserted into rectum and prostate after first core is taken. They don’t do perineal biopsies here.

Thank you. My dad who is 85 very healthy started peeing a very red bloody urine. After the weekend it cleared up. He called his doctor and they got him right in and scoped him. They see red spots on his bladder walls. They said they aren’t sure what it is but the will do a biopsy soon… I’m a bit nervous.

Thank you so much for this information.!!!! started having urgent urination, after about a month he saw light blood. He said it wasn't pain he felt but more like pressure when urinating. He went to ER and they did blood & urine samples. They assumed it was a urinary infection and gave him antibiotics. Three weeks later yesterday, they said he was diagnosed wrong, because he has E-coli... never suggested that he see the urologist. I'm scared because 1st husband died of pancreas cancer within 2 months of diagnosis and he urinated blood.!!

Awesome video. I'm mid-60's and have a rising PSA. If it continues to go up, my urologist suggested a MRI, and I think I'll look for transperineal biopsy if needed. Very helpful!

Hi doc what does 10.0 mg/dL hemoglobin in urine means? The rest are negative. No bacteria in the culture. Do I need to worry? 3 months ago it’s the same 10.0

So got it done. Sore going in for about 3 seconds. Enough for me to go yyaahaaaa (not very loudly). Once in it was fine. Then I could watch the screen which was interesting. Was in for no more than 1 minute. Felt nothing when it was drwan out. Went for a pee right away, as I was still numb I felt nothing , pee came out fine. Was ready and discharged 5 min later. So from sitting down on bed to leaving was about 15 minutes. For me the hardest part was peeing in the house that night. Painful and not much coming out. I went for a 5km walk in the freezing cold came back and wee man had shrunk and was cold. Did a full pee felt nothing went to bed. Next morning did a pee , felt little bit of pain for 1sec till pee started. Recon I will be back to normal tomorrow. On a scale of 1 to 10 for actual pain and discomfort I would give it just a 3 out of 10 (nothing like toothake which can alst for days unti you get it out). For shear terror at the thought of something being stuck up yer wee man I would give it 10 out of 10. THE THOUGH OF IT IS MUCH MUCH MUCH WORSE THAN THE REALITY !!! All was normal.

useful information well presented. I have a question regarding what a patient should do if he has a prostate MRI and it is clear - no cancer indicated ....yet because of 7 psa value of 290# patient the doctor still wants to do a transrectal biopsy using ultrasound probe without the advantage of the MRI fusion indicating areas of interest.
