Melting of OM35 in Aluminum cavity under 10 W heat input. Heat input is provided with a silicone rubber heater.
The specifications of the heat sink:
Melting temperature = 34-35°C
Latent heat = 171 kJ/kg
Density of liquid = 870 kg/m^3
Mass of PCM filled = ~39 g
Cavity inner dimensions: 40*40*30 mm^3
Complete melting took around 22 min
Video speed = 4X
It is observed that there is an inclination in the free surface of the liquid PCM. This is because the heat sink is not perfectly horizontal. The inclination of heat sink results in horizontal and vertical components of the body force. While validating the numerical results with experiments, this has to be considered. Hence, the heat sink has to be checked with spirit level carefully while doing experiments.
