Most of these Halloween movies aren’t even that bad. The way I look at it, it’s a slasher/teen horror not Shawshank redemption. People watch the first Halloween and listen to John carpenter interviews and feel like everything past the 1978 version was a disaster. Laurie is heartbrokem, terrified, she's in denial, and yet she's still trying to comfort her friend and herself. I don't know if this was what Zombie was going for, but "baby" as an endearment between female friends is also a country thing. Most times I call friends "sweetheart" or "honey," but I get called "baby" nearly every day. So it sounds natural to me.
