Hey Ian! ( Beekeeper/Franks) I'm curious if you have thought on the principle of purpose on the coloration of these fish? IDK fish, I only know bugs, but it seems to me that the top/bottom are camouflage and the red/purple are sex/maturity markings. Thus, would it not be practical to exploit the fish's interest in the territorial threat of a competitor to induce the strike, instead of calling the time sync'd stomach? I wonder if shimmering accents(silver splashes in the red) would raise aggression and cause more striking. Have you tried messing with the red banding?

I’d suspect that without a coating the lure would have hook rash within the first ten minutes. I’ve used Tru-Coat 2 part on musky lures. I fished one at least 30 hours in Canada, caught 7 fish on it and it has zero marks on the finish. But you’re right that you’d never get it off for a repaint. Nice looking finish with that paint. Nice job on the lure
