I did the a switchable 991 backbox on my 997 using the factory loom section and the dash switch panel switch works a treat

you are like my mates who ride Harleys, the spends a fortune buying the motorcycle, then add just as much on add on? As say more money than you know what! My 26 old vehicle will still be around when yours with all the electronics fails.

I’d be worried about the sharp metal the vacuum lines have gone through cutting the pipe with all the vibration from the engine and the whole vacuum system going down which can be a nightmare on these cars

I also have a 997.1 from GB with 120k Mls and a lot of corrosion. Now the left exhaust pipe is hanging downstairs because of broken rusty bolts! I have to localize and fix the problem. Just a thought, but i would have treated those rusty parts with some cure rust and painted,then coated all in Lanogaurd or similar!

The water pump is not a nice job to do at home. The ticking on mine was very random and would come and go whether hot or cold but generally had the same smoke cloud as yours. It had bad scoring on cyl 5 with cyl 6 well on its way

Finally someone with a borescored engine thats not getting it rebuilt immediately. Subscribed to see it back on the road again and being used, looking forward to how it performs and how much oil it uses, and what eventually happens to the engine.

great to see some high Moly juice going in. so was the ticking still present at temp?🤔 hopefully you’ve kept some of the existing oil and sent it off for analysis. be great to compare it to the new oil after 1000 miles. fingers crossed, the degradation will be slow or stopped. new injectors next or at least a bench clean. great video.

that air filter is a K&N performance filament, worth keeping. you can get some cleaner for them

Not sure if you know, but the air filter you removed. Looks like one of those performance K&N air filters.

I love these cars but I am put off by all the problems that the engines have as it doesn't stop at bore scoring and IMS bearings, my old air-cooled 911 was a piece of cake to work on, you could service it in an hour or less and take the engine out before lunch. They were as solid as a rock.

Option 6: Take the engine out yourself, take it apart, send the block to Hartech for new cylinder liners which costs £4700 inc VAT. Reassemble it, fit an improved IMS, put it back in the car.

I've got a 996 c2 74k and its never used oil and smokes on start up ,changed oil for opie oils rec ,stopped ticking and runs better ,I know 6 is scored but it's behaving with good fuel and oil so I'm going to keep an eye on it and enjoy as can't afford a metzger engine just yet .but why is it the liners are nicoseal not chrome or iron .bad design. Good luck m8 I'll follow .look at jack raby!

Option 6. Fit a Honda K24 engine. Will be cheaper than any of the other options if you’re happy with a Naturally aspirated build around 280-300bhp. Or if you spend 12k you could probably have a nice turbo and 500bhp. Best thing is though once it’s fitted if it ever did blow up you just need to go to a scrappy and get a replacement for £500-£1000. Would make great content too. Have a search on TH-cam for k24 911’s if you want to see what they’re all about. 👍🏻

Give Hartech a ring, they are great to deal with and will tailor the cost to suit your requirements whether that be sending your car there and picking it up with the engine done and back up & running, sending the full engine for them to strip down and rebuild or just sending the bare engine that you have already stripped (as you would for the AMS bare engine swap). If you went for the bare engine option you would save the mark up from AMS which would potentially pay for other things you may need as part of your strip down

I have an Audi A4 B8 2008 and I only have the rear parktronic which does not show on the display when I put it in reverse. will it work if I tick this option from Vcds on my car?

Other option, do nothing and turn the stereo up! Cost you nothing. More tips will follow 😂

What are my options?? Don’t buy a Porsche is the best option, they have 3 generation of engines which self destruct, their reputation isn’t warranted. Buy an old Porsche and expect to pay the value of the car to keep it going.

Why isn’t this a recall issue? This is poor manufacturing by Porsche.

Only good thing if the engine is out you can address the other associated problems with 996 that can only be done with engine out . I had new 996 models C2 C4S good experience as under warranty. I would like to re visit the model as I like the size and not so expensive that it will just sit in the garage. Your other option would be sell the car get 5-6 k I reckon plus the 10k you were going to spend and put towards a better non Cat car

That’s the same conclusion I came to. 👍 My 996 has slightly sooty tailpipe on bank 2. However, it doesn’t smoke at all, and no ticking noises. Oil consumption appears to be low too. So I’ve changed to Millers and will monitor it. Regular oil changes should help (3k miles) and not leaving the car idling on a cold start. Good luck and looking forward to future updates.

Be really interesting to have a deep dive into why the high moly content oil is the way to go to avoid further damage. Also get the injectors cleaned/replaced as these are contributors to the issue. Send off the current oil for analysis as well?

You have made the right decision, as I said before, millers nano 10/50 is the way to go! I did a further 25k miles before I sold the car with known issue. Ran great! Used some oil but hey? So what!
