Mal's Projects: Cylon Raider "Scar" - Mobius 1/32 full build
มุมมอง 2374 หลายเดือนก่อน
I needed a bit of a mojo-cleanser, and I took a swing at modifying the Mobius 1/32 reboot Cylon Raider into "Scar." In here is the look into the box and then some high-level looks at the modifications and build. Some successes, some misses-of-the-mark, but it was a journey I enjoyed.
Mal's Projects: (1) Unboxing: Space 1999 SUPERSWIFT 1/72
มุมมอง 2706 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is an unboxing of a 3-d Printed resin kit of a Space 1999 SUPERSWIFT model. The Superswift is from the "Bringers of Wonder" episodes and this thing is a beast of a kit. This is one of those subjects I've desired since I first saw it, and I finally have been able to acquire it. This is what I see when I go into the box. If you're interested in acquiring one yourself, it comes from Bill Alte...
Mal's Projects: (1) Hera Syndulla's "Ghost", Resin kit from Randy Cooper
มุมมอง 3126 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a 1/96 Resin-cast of Hera Syndulla's "Ghost" ship from Star Wars' "Ahsoka" series. This version is different from Ghost as seen in StarWars Rebels, and has the Phantom II shuttle, replacement for the original Phantom which was destroyed in the series. This is not a 3-d print, it is a kit that was scratch built and patterned by professional model maker Randy Cooper and his skill is evide...

Slightly non-traditional vid for me, I was getting little bits of time here and there, I just combined them all into one. This was a fun little project. Learned much.. more to learn.

Whilst I understand the comments about metal into plastic, it has to be noted that this kit is over 40 years old. Yes, it is not up to their modern standards, but it’s still the best 1/32 version of this plane by a country mile. Here’s hoping that Tamiya launch a new tooling of this to go with their excellent 1/48 version
Cool project! I just bought one of these at a model show for $5, it has been decades since I built a Monogram kit.
Thank you! Have fun with it!
How did you paint the deck? Very realistic. I am also assembling this model.
What I did there was just a bunch of dry brushing techniques. It started out with the same "blackish" color - and then I used Vallejo desert sand as a very light drybrush through all the areas of wear. Like all drybrushing, I was light-handed with it so it took a long while to build up the pathways of wear on the deck, but it really was that simple.
I always envisioned a gatlin gun on the end of each of the four wings, the shells would be stored within the wing. This along with the nose gun.
And this is why we call it modeling😅😂
Indeed it is. :)
Looks Super Great I'm gonna order one
Awesome, thank you! Enjoy it! Would love to see how you come out!
You need to put your paints on the model, not your arm, thanks for the review :)
2.51 Remember the square hole you mention....your resource pics got the answer
In for a penny, in for a pound! You are ambitious!
Hah.. no kidding. My mind's eye has an awesome diorama. The rest of me is wondering just what the heck I am thinking. LoL Thanks!!
Gosh.... this boy looks evil. This is already looking so awesome! I love the pulsing green light! And I cannot wait to see the smoke :)
Thanks. That was a spur of the moment thought, but I like it so far. Thank you!
Love ya man, see ya soon, and take care of yourself.
Thank you, my Friend. One day at a time! :)
look out for yourself first, we will be here
thanks Much!! appreciate it!
Sounds like you have a few pokers in the fire, like many of us. I also know how work can take you away from your most passionate project, but you have to keep the lights on. I have this vision for a rusting, derelict Batmobile from Batman Forever hidden away in a makeshift garage in a largely abandoned area of Gotham and forgotten about for 32 years, it is a big project but one I am compelled to do. Best of luck on your projects!
Aye.. you get it. :) just a lot moving all at once. Just tackling things one at a time. :) Thanks! and take care!
Hey Mal, nice to hear from you again :) I can understand your situation keeping you more then busy :/ I am crossing my fingers that the situation will improve fast for you. The pictures of Big C are looking awesome and it is good to hear about the other projects of yours :)
Thank you. It will, things will get better. It'll just take a bit of time to get there! Take care!
The T28 was a assault gun like the Stug III, SPG's are things like self propelled artillery.
I do believe that "bedroll" was a tarp. I wouldn't want to use a bedroll that had been constantly rained on and splashed with mud ewww.
He probably gets that symmetry by mocking it up in a 3D rendering program and then mirroring it then uses either a CNC to cut a positive or a 3D printer to print a positive then makes a negative mould of that.
I didn't know anyone made large kits for Battletech, I've wanted some for years. Every time I see the Gundam kits I'm like man they need Battletech ones. I went over to look at this guys page and he threw in the towel in July. Says he will only fill orders for ones he already has moulds for which I was bummed about. He didn't have any models I was interested in enough to pay $100+ for. I am looking for a Thunderbolt TDR-5S and a Firestarter FS9-H. I guess I will keep looking and hoping.
Understand. He DID have a Firestarter.. take another look. If he doesn't have any more I might have one still in my stash. I'm pretty sure I grabbed one.
I am really glad you persisted with this. I bought this model about s few days ago from Andy'sHobbyHQ. I don't know precisely when I will be building it but I will remember these videos and will come back to watch them again just before.
Thanks.. I am too. It was work, but I'm happy to have come out the other side. :) Good luck!!
what's the name of this special metal parts? this is some addons? becouse in a box there is only plastic parts, where i can buy it?
Do we need glue for this
Yep., very much so.
I need this model despite the fact I own the same in scale 1/6 rc..very good and detailed job 👍
Oooh.. Rc. nice! Who makes THAT one? :) Thank you for the feedback!
@syrmalcolm this is a vario helicopter kit
Nice!! I had one of their Apache kits years ago, but my flight skills at the time would have turned that into a pile of shattered parts and hopes. LoL
This looks great... I used rattle can hammering effect overall to match the studio model and then shaded.
Thank you for that! Nice idea!! Mine was rattlecan Leadbelcher. I'll have to take a look at the hammering effect for future projects. Thanks!
I've built this kit multiple times throughout my years, and it will always be my favorite F-8 kit. I'm always on the look out for another.
Thank you! I will admit that I am happier with it than I expected to be, and it does look nice on the shelf.
Raised panel lines are more prototypical but recessed panel lines are better for thd modeller to show off detail. Thats how I look at it.
That came out really nice
Thanks Finn! I definitely had fun with it. Appreciate it!
Thank you for the positive review! I look forward to the magic you will do on it. Please keep us updated. :)
Thank YOU! it's a wonderful kit and I've loved this subject since I first saw it. You can count on me posting how I get on! Thanks!
@@syrmalcolm did you get instructions from me yet?
I did! All good and ready to go!
@@syrmalcolm is it ok to share this video?
If you want to, of course. It's public. :) I'm no pro..but feel free.
Brilliant!! I thought I'd start mine (1 of 2 - both good price) before I start an assembly line for the squadron of Eagles I have accumulated. Just opened one of them and was disappointed to see it won't display 'nicely' with the Eagles as it is on the stand. Searching builds to see if any hiccups etc (TH-cam is great for that and thanks to all who take/have the time to post videos) and found your video about Landing Gear!!!! Just what I need - an Idea and inspiration on how it could be done. Love the perfect placement for a 'tricycle' configuration. I guess I'm off designing and then see how I go with a 3d print effort. (no spare parts or the like) Great job and MANY thanks for taking the time to video, edit and post the build.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it! that was exactly the same reason I went down that road, I wanted to display next to my Eagles and I don't have the "airspace" in my house. All I have is shelf-space. Good luck on yours!!!
Amazing figure model! Ambitious project, good luck!! 😮
Thank you.. this is gonna take a while! :)
Merci!
Awesome 👏
Thank you!
Absolutely dislike this version Nautilus. Goofy looking design.
'A hack having fun'. The way it should be! There's plenty of insanely detailed and skilful builds of this kit on modelling forums being documented, then just stop mid build. I think too many modellers fall into the trap of chasing perfection at the cost of enjoyment.
Tamiya really should do a retool of this kit. The other 1/32 F-14 (Trumpeter, Revell) kits have significant issues. This could be a halo kit.
Just building mine and I had no issue fitting the metal wing support piece. Slotted on nicely with no force required at all
Mine is fine too.
Hey Mal, as you were thinking about adding smoke. Found this: th-cam.com/video/8oNMnFIC4Ys/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BhOxuUeCQOCS3RvM I like it :) but with smoke you have to keep in mind that the smoke will drop down somewhere. So by doing this too often the smoke can / will create a layer of the Smoking liquid on the model
Thank you! I did a "Ghost Rider" cosplay where the skull threw smoke, and the way I lit it, it looked like flames. This is kinda what I was thinking of doing here as well. You're right.. definitely need to be aware of the residue and how that will build up. It's entirely probable that, while it'd be cool to have, it'd only ever be turned on for like 3 minutes over the rest of the life of the model, so... is it really worth it? : ) Thanks!
It would be REALLY amazing! But I am with you, would it be worth the effort.... i honestly do not know...as it is not only the Smoking machine itself, but also the preparation of the kit.... and as you mention, how often will it be used.... :-/
Nice kit, and if I remember correctly Space is one of your favourites :) looking forward to this project of yours with hopefully plenty of videos :) :)
Oh yes, you remember correctly. I guarantee I'll document the journey. Thank you!!
Well somehow missed the beginning where you mentioned it 😂 oh and nice weapons and armorin the back 😊
hah.. thanks. That's my "other" hobby.. :)
That is awesome! I loved Space 1999 (not as much as I loved their previous series 'UFO' but I did love it a lot)
Thank you. Same for me!!
Very cool find! Yet another epic project for us to delight in as you build it up. I've never seen this before, but I haven't watched Space: 1999 in its entirety yet. Doing an image search brings up some good pics of the filming model with its big spindly legs, I'm gonna say this is the granddaddy to Red Dwarf's Star Bug shuttle! Happy modeling!
The swift and the superswift just had that 'coolness' factor for me when I was a kid. I loved it. It's going to be fun to do, just the dry fits are showing good engineering and fit. I just need to get time on the bench! :) thanks and take care!
It looks like I sent you 2 sets of engine inserts by mistake. Did I send you the instructions?
I was wondering if that was intentional. There was not a set of instructions in the box, no sir. Thanks sir.
@randallcooper3559 as the comments in your videos are deactivated, I have to take this chance here: WOW your kits are amazing! This is such a great work of yours!😊😊😊
Wow! 😊 wow unboxing Video and wow to the kit 😊😊😊
Thanks.. really looking forward to working on this one.
The details are just, like you said: wow! Thanks for adding the link to him. His other kits look also amazing. Really looking forward to you working on it :)
That is an incredible kit, happy modeling!
That is exactly my thought at looking at it too! :) Thanks!
look forward to the completion
Thanks.. this one is going to take a while. I'd like to give it the attention and work it deserves.
Fun little Fiat 💥👍💥
Thanks! any opportunity to learn new things...
Yes it was entertaining. Thanks. The 4 decals might go to the center of the rims. The cover of the box is showing it :)
Good catch.. obviously, I missed that. :) thanks!!
Glad i could help :)
You're right, decal number 8 goes on the hub caps.
I'm waiting for mine in the mail. I got the pe set from microscale, made in Russia, it's coming from Kazakhstan, won't be here for awhile. Thank you for this video
thanks.. I hope you enjoy it!
Just caught up with this; always great to see a Monogram 'Classic'(?) getting a shake! Regarding the grey colour, it may not be 36440 but it makes the VF-84 markings pop like they never did before! Great job. 👍
Thanks! I appreciate that. I did have fun with it, to be sure. Some of those old kits just need a bit of love.
And now to something completely different😊
so very right.. I mean.. what the heck? :)
That is another point i love with your channel: you are not only focusing on one specific "topic" like others do. And it seems you are having your joy in doing so ;)
Thanks.. It's all about learning new things, yea? :)
FIAT- Fix It Again Tony! This looks to be a really nice kit, should be a fine build.
We'll find out. :) I don't normally do cars, but it's good to try new things. :)
This gonna be a good one! I gotta get one sometime 'cause my mom owns a pearl white one.
haha Nice!! We'll see how it goes!!
Man you did a fantastic job here.. Looks beautiful. I'd love to have some completed models like this, but I don't have the patience to complete them. I have a Meng T-90 tank model that I started but did not finish. The tracks give me so much trouble.. anyway, I really enjoyed this series, thanks!
Thank you so much for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the series. I will admit this one was a bit of an exercise in getting over frustration to be sure. :) LOL
