How are we going to build this??? 5 CYLINDER TURBO PORSCHE RESTOMOD!
This episode we introduce Hunters 5 cylinder powered Carbon body Porsche 924 Project!
Hunter brought this 924 about one and a half years ago from a scrap metal yard right before it was going to get crushed. We went on a 8hr return roadie to go get it.
It lived at his flat for 8 months while he stripped it, built the carbon roof and collected parts. Then it took it to the workshop after we moved into the new sheds and had somewhere to put it.
Since then we have shaped the body conceptually, cut the old steel roof off, and gathered more parts like the motor and wheels.
We are now getting into the swing of the project and thought we should share it!
The engine is a B5254T3 2.5L 5 pot turbo which we got from a Volvo S40 T5 which was stripped in Hunters home garage. These engines also came in the Ford Focus ST/RS Mk2.
People have built these motors to produce over 1000hp on numerous occasions but we are aiming for eventually 600hp.
We are planning on sending this power to the rear wheels via a Corvette T56 Transaxle.
We are trying to build this car as light as possible with an eventual weight goal of 850kg. One of the main ways we are going to dump weight is by switching out every steel panel we possibly can with Carbon fibre.
Since we are building new panels, we also thought we could try improve the look by making subtle changes to body lines.
We hope to keep the car looking like a 924, but when its side by side with a standard car they will look totally different.
We are NOT building this as a race car. It will be a fully street legal Restomod built in the same fashion and incredible quality of those like AlphaHolics, Retropower, and those types of builders.
We think this is an epic never-been-done-before build and we invite you to follow along on the journey!
Please like and Subscribe if you enjoy it!

    Couple of suggestions, i would recommend raising the strut towers at the front as taking out 50mm of travel won't be a good idea.The 944/68 has a wider lower arm and track as this helps with this, the IMSA cars relocated the strut to help the angles. The corvette transaxle will require a cut torque tube and tunnel. The early ur quattro tuners and the GT40 replicas here in Europe run a Subi STi gearbox instead of the O1E, making a STi gearbox fwd is cheaper than a Z06 manual transaxle. The 951(924) gearbox is the same style as the Vette. But having the gearbox behind the diff helps traction as this is static and doesn't change with fuel load, so setting spring rates is easier as it can be softer to allow squat and braking at the rear. The normal fix for lowered 944/68 is to raise the trailing arm location up 50 mm and use coil overs with a higher mount by the same amount, this is all tried and tested 964 stuff. Otherwise you go 986 boxster suspension

    Earned a subscription from me. I build hot rods for a living, and you guys are killing the game with this build. Edit do add: People have been sleeping on the Volvo 5 and six cylinder platform. There's a lot to love, and a lot that rhymes with the driving aesthetic of 80''s Porsche.

    If they had designed the 924 originally with your subtle changes to the body , they would have sold even more units. I really like the shape now , but not very keen on the original.

  • @skeetamacgyver1821
    @skeetamacgyver1821 ปีที่แล้ว

    924 really???? Your body line changes do however make a massive difference to gow ugly it was stock. Are you looking for a stock RS motor outcome or more power? Stand alone ECU would be a good idea to make everything talk to everything else. If you go for newer turbo design it is worth the effort of moving away from an integrated wastegate. Get an electronically controlled Turbosmart wastegate as these give you complete control over boost. Otherwise you will need to use throttle position to compensate for poor boost control. Less chance of boom!

    Great work guys. The 2.5 is a great engine but you’ve got to look after it. Definitely shim the liners running that power, if not a full brace. In terms of the actual project for the car, it looks fantastic and should perform brilliantly too. I like the plan and can’t wait to see it develop. I’m in!

    Aha! I knew an Audi 5 cylinder was somehow initially involved. I would have wanted to keep it in the family too, but I can totally understand the switch to a Volvo. They seem like a reliable platform to start with - guys in the Gatebil and Berg Cup communities think very highly of them. By the time you get the luxury road-spec leather and carpet and aircon and sound deadening squeezed in 850kgs will be hard to pull off I think, even in (basically) full carbon. But I'm more than happy to be proved wrong! Hope to see it all happen :D

    Beautiful work. Maybe some tubing needs to be pre-installed to making running wires for the control panel switches later on, easier? I foresee maybe getting wires headed down those pillars is going to be a bit of a pain. Anyway it’s great to see high quality work from a humble craftsman.

      @procarbuildersNZ ปีที่แล้ว

      We really appreciate your feedback! Matts super happy with the roof console, I will pass on the perspex idea to him. We purchased a lapel as you suggested and have now got it working properly. I have also switched from editing the videos in Microsoft Clipchamp (garbage) to Davinci Resolve which has made a huge difference (faster, easier, audio leveling included and just an awesome FREE software) . I source all music (from this video onwards) from a website called Artlist.io. Its a subscription service but has a large quantity of really good music. Thanks!
