The 1964 Chevrolet El Camino is not pretty but its back on the road.
Finished up the 64 El Camino and its back on the road. Just enough for the next guy to get some grocery's and finish it the way he likes. Unfortunately I ended deleting some videos of the build but wanted to show some closure with what I had.

Been watching this one on my local classified listings so I decided to stop and take a look at it. Next thing you know I'm making a deal on it. Been wanting a 40s-50s ride for some time to build a custom cruiser with but just never found the right one. I have a thing for Pontiacs, and 4 doors so I had to buy it.
The 64 El Camino's 283 engine gets inspected and a make over

Decided to pull the 283 engine out to inspect. With the last owners story of the missing push rod and the excessive amount of silicone on all the gaskets I figured better safe then sorry.
Picked up another... Chevrolet El Camino. This ones a 1964. What should I do with it?

When you find a deal you have to jump on it! So I brought home another Elco. This ones a 1964 and not too sure what I'm going to do with it but definitely getting it back on the road!
Brought life back to this custom 1962 C10 short bed Pt.2

1962 Chevrolet C10 short bed on a modern Chevy Tahoe frame. Fresh rebuilt Chevy 350 matched with a rebuilt th400 3-Speed automatic transmission. Reupholstered interior, custom wood bed, air bag suspension. Built as low cost as we could get it. Cost $7k to get it where it is today.
Stripped down the 1971 El Camino to see what I'm working with.

Stripped Project El Cruiser down to the bare bones to see what I've got myself into. Found rust in the typical areas but have definitely seen worst. Next step is to bring it down to bare metal and patch some rust panels.

Customer asked that I get this 1962 Chevrolet C10 short bed back on the road but.... on a budget. So I set out to get this pick up back on the road as safe and reliable as possible for a beer budget with wine taste customer.
The 1966 Chevrolet C10 quick journey back on the road
มุมมอง 6062 ปีที่แล้ว
Longbed's need love too. So I set out to build one with a little style and see who else would share the love for the longbed pick up truck. While building the #budget62c10 for a customer I wanted my own 60's pick up to build so that's what I did. I have thing for big cars and I guess that carries over to trucks as well because I do like the longbed's. This ride I wanted a traditional Hotrod/Rat...
New project alert! Forgotten 1971 Chevrolet El Camino ready to be put back on the road with style.
มุมมอง 3.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Picked up this El Camino in trade deal on the BudgetC10 build. Been sitting for 15 years all alone besides the cats that lived in the engine bay. Calling this project car El Cruiser. Plan on building a mild custom lowroder. Shaving door handles and side trim, metallic white paint with dark gray painted chrome and trim accents. Cant wait to see this one come together! #ProjectElCruiser

    Hey doing some research on an older 350 I slapped in a Volvo, what heads were on that 71 350? My cast is CGC (1971 elcamino) but stock the engine should've come with a 2bbl. My engine has some 492 hump heads that also date code to around 1971 lol curious if that what you had goin on in the elco

    WOW. This Comment Is Coming 5-Years AFTER You Had It First Posted. And I Can EASILY See A Good 30K Investment, And AT LEAST A Years Worth Of Continual Daily Devoted Time To Bring The Car Back To A NICE Looking Set Of Wheels. Post Another One With The Way It Looks NOW Showing Your Progress. I Finished Restoring A 1950 Mercury A Few Years Ago, And Replaced The Sweep Gauge Dashboard With The Nicer 1949 ROUND Gauge Type Dash, (So Modern 12-Volt Gauges Could Fit Nicely Into The Holes), Along With A Repaint Was A Project That Cost Me $2,000 Alone. And Rechroming Parts Is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE Indeed. This Auto Restoration Business ISN'T CHEAP...

      This video was posted 5 months ago..... Plans for the build wouldn't be so much a restoration more of a custom build. As of now it pretty much sits the same as the video as I gather parts for the build. I have a s10 chassis for it and a SBC sitting on the stand. Would like to get it started mid year if it doesn't get sold or traded before then.

    • @glennmanchester5696
      @glennmanchester5696 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ah yeah why do you say its a boat anchor because the four or five that i had over the years in stock form out performed most of the small block chevys except for the lt1 or something like that with over 350 HP the olds motors still had more torque on the low end and kept up with the high performance small block chevys if olds really had wanted to make a high performance motor out of the 5.7 rocket motor then the torque would have been over 500 lb ft and hp well over 400 but they didnt now you can make a high revving stout olds motor by getting a diesel block and then putting a 425 crank in it bored 30 over cylinders makes a 440 olds motor which are straight nasty and the torque is ridiculous but of course it costs money to do that when I can go get a junkyard ls and turbo it get a 1000 HP and only have 500 bucks in it and it will live technology has come a long way

    • @alertgasper
      @alertgasper 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on what you need out of an engine (it's funny to reference a boat anchor, considering how many Toronado engines went in speed boats). Olds is in fact, old tech compared to an LS engine (obviously) and Olds was building luxury car engines, with an oiling system designed to get rid of lifter clicking. Unlike Chevy, Mopar and Ford, they weren't building truck engines, so if you want the heavy duty parts, you have to hunt old GM motorhomes or Toronados (at least with the small block, you could find a forged crank in the 330, but those aren't common anymore either). Back in the day, you could find a 455 for $50 in the junkyard, it's heads would run 10:1 CR on Sunoco 94, have little blow by, and made 500 ft lbs of torque easy. That pushed an intermediate sized car down the quarter in 13 seconds, which was respectable back then, for less money than picking up the desired Chevy 454 engine and swapping out the peanut ports if you got the cheap Suburban ones. but if you built your Olds like a Chevy, you found out those big mains didn't want to go over 5,500 rpm. And few screwed with small blocks when the big blocks were dirt cheap and ready for another 100K with an oil change. A good solution when your work truck blew its goodwrench 350 and you wanted something that would yank a trailer uphill while keeping up with traffic in the 55mph era.

    The cam may have been broken in already and they drained the break in oil out and never put fresh in would be my guess just use rotella it has lots of zinc and you can add zinc as well I get your thought process but in my opinion you went way above and beyond what needed to be done to it but like I said I get it at least in your mind you know for sure what's been done or hasn't been done to it did you get a make or number off the cam while you had it out maybe its got a little bit of a bigger than stock cam in it that would be nice at least I wouldn't mind lol nothing too radical but over stock to go with the intake and such and of course I would not run anything except a Oldsmobile 350 rocket quadrajet carburetor on it a really good HEI distributor w a really high quality module a cap and rotor w brass connections a curve kit that fits the compression ratio and fuel octane your running a super high output coil high quality wires and E 3 PLUGS or something like that and that along with zinc in the oil to protect the lifters and new cam you've assured its not gonna skip or be out of time or anything with the high quality ignition parts and that car will not only run well but really well for a very long time w out ever an issue the qjet will be calibrated for a olds motor and not only out perform but get better milage than any edelbrock or. Holley could dream of this is all factual info and I've worked on GM cars since they ran points in them the HEI came out in 1973 74 in all models do these things set the total timing at 35 deg and get timing in as quickly as possible w out detonation dont even worry about initial. Timing its irrelevant and will be right anyway as long as it starts good and sounds happy the initial is good its a baseline only total timing is the most important and when .. I hope someone gets something out of this goodnight
