it's kind of hard to tell on video, but at the end of the ballad when they are walking down the aisle the band member runs away from the bride and all the the brides start to go crazy, like chasing them and swinging their equipment at them during the first part of the closer, then one of the guard members comes out with a black veil and smeared makeup and the alter comes out from behind the glass stained props. At the end, the groom that ran away goes onto the alter for forgiveness but she pushes him off the back and that's why the band spells out RIP at the end! It's easier to tell what's happening in person lol 😭 Also, yes the stadium is that echoey in person! 💍

I wanna start saying thanks for the compliments and reaction to our show, it's not often we get to see others watch our performance so thank you. To clarify as short as I can: The show our director described it as "putting the experience of human life into a marching band show". Inspired by a poem written in the perspective of a woman looking back on her life in her final moments, this show got us all excited on what would happen. Throughout the performance, our music variety and shapes through segments like you said makes it feel like the show is multiple "moments" put together as one long story event to event. The complex drill written and taught by our wonderful dci experienced staff shows: squares framing the guard and their "moments", arrows pointing to highlights and other moments through the show and formation, our arrowhead props used with our drill or line platforms that make an X for the ballad's moment, as well as times where we pause in poses to stop in time and show off a "moment" (or our staff just wanted complicated drill for points). And finally, you got our guard costume which was an arrow with dot symbolizing the whole theme. To finish off addressing the ending set since it is confusing, you can see our props pointing to the big triangle in the field with the guard arrows, and the triangle is supposed to essentially be pointing at the audience. Ik it's a lot to keep it short but there was a lot of detail and love that made this show possible. Hopefully this helped clear some concept understanding since our show this year felt like Blue Devils where you had to do research to understand what this show was about rather than understand from just the title. Hey @GuardGirl! You were right with the Roadrunner theory! We were roadrunners from the old Looney Tunes cartoons! Going about our daily lives, the ending we heard good ol' Wile E. Coyote approaching and we ran to hide :) Thanks so much for reviewing our show - glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun production to put on the floor - for both members AND staff!

Hi so that’s me I’m so soloist, you are right in the sense that we are trying to be understood and seen as the main message. The song is titled “Voila” written initially by Barbra Pravi a French musician and given an emotional performance more recently by Emma Kok. The whole show was based on this song a year prior to our performance thus creating the story, “Here we are.” The songs whole message is about a performer who is accepting her flaws and her faults and her wants to be heard and listened to as a performer and a person. The whole show is very beautiful and well thought out. I will say this was not my personal best as I had bronchitis, there are more recordings that may give the results you’re looking for in terms of emotional appeal.

Lemme clear some stuff up🫡 Show Description: The shadow is a place where light has not yet reached! A comfort zone. Coming out of the shadows can leave you feeling vulnerable and exposed but also give you freedom to make connections with others. When the band members go behind the props it was usually to hide and give attention to another part on the field. And at the end of the show you couldn’t see because of the quality, but the guard and field dance stuck their hands through the props like if you were trying to scare someone by sticking your arm through a door or something like that. Another thing you couldn’t see was how the band put their hands up in front of their faces like you would to block the sun at the end of every part except the very ending behind the props. You missed how band members tangoed with guard members towards the beginning. I don’t blame you because a lot of the attention was on the other side of the field with that giant block of band members and the violin soloist. The show was fire🗣️🔥🔥💯✅🦅🦅 (The other guy is right it is pronounced like Bran-Dice)

Hi! As a performer in this show I’ll clear up some things, so are show name “first light” is based off of the sailboat Cole used to travel around the world, first light is moment of creativity and precision! Now since your a guard member yourself I think I should tell you the guards costumes, the horns costumes are the water and the guards costumes are the sails of her boat! I really love the concept, and the props are meant to make her sailboat “first light” I hope this cleared some questions you had or things you misunderstood, I’m so glad you enjoyed the show and I’m very happy to see your reactions 😁🙏❤️

I personally did not like the ballad. I’m sure the soloist is a very talented singer, but Voila is a very technical demanding piece and I felt that the microphone position made the effect of the piece go down. It was hard to hear her enunciate the words also.(most likely because of the microphone quality). I agree I wish the band was more present during the impact.

Sadly this was the best recording it was way better in person there are like electric shock kinda sound effects throughout the whole show and the band is way louder then it sounds in the recording but we were good enough in person to get 1st so it’s whatever thanks for watching!!!

It’s based off of the new Wonka movie that came out in 2024, if you’ve seen it you’ll recognize the music in the woodwind feature as well as the ballad movement and the fun movement with the saxophones. If you’ve heard the lyrics to the song in the ballad movement you’d see a whole other element to it. Anyways, we’ve grown a lot in the four years that I marched, from a smaller band with barely a hundred kids to I think this year was a 132 kids. Anyways, as always it was wonderful seeing you react to our show and thank you!!!

Heartless is more on the abstract side of things. It focuses on the perspective on just the tinman, and his life. I imagined the storyline like this: Preshow: Portal to Emerald City and and the tinman becoming alive. Part one as a whole is a whimsical feeling and it's just tinman doing tinman things, hes having fun. Now the ballad, I thought of this as if the tinman was dancing or singing a song. This is also where the tinman questions/realizes he doesnt have a heart. The feeling that the final movement gives off is his anger and frustration of not having a heart, hence the name "Heartless" You can hear in the Bass Drum (in the pit) that theres a heartbeat rhythym, once we get to where the boxed heart formation is, I think of it like the tinman finding a heart but is too late to be given one, like if it was destroyed or it disappeared. Once the "My body is a cage" part comes up, its a feeling of pure frustration and anger, then the pit feature is acceptence and emptiness because hes heartless, and the pit goes limp at the very end to signify the death of the tinman. This show is NOT AT ALL a happy ending. I do agree that the heartless topic could have been more present in the first movement though.

Love your commentary of this show! To answer your question, the form they make at the end is a Celtic Knot (the form in the ballad is another Celtic symbol), since the word Shenanigans originated from the Celtic Nations. Their show is basically depicting how the word Shenanigans is used in Celtic Traditions. Also this was their 2022 show. Their 2024 show was “The Cats Meow” show you reacted I think a while ago lol. Still a great analysis!

Hey there, I love your videos. I'm an alumnus of JSU as well as The Marching Southerners. The excellence, in my opinion is because of only two directors Dr. David L Walter's 1961-1991 and Dr Kenneth Bodiford 1991-present . Ken was the drum major when i was marching color-guard. It's crazy how he has grown the program. In my day we marched around 240. Today it's a staggering 528 members. Honestly it's a med tough guard audition , the Marching Ballarinas is a class, get an A your in. The rest just show up. it's a college band so pretty open. Practice is honestly 4:30-6:30 m t w and F and 4;30-7:30 thursdays for pep rally's in the end It was without a doubt the time of my life, lifelong friends , lifelong framily!
