Two Soldiers (Nora Brown)
มุมมอง 1162 หลายเดือนก่อน
I first heard this song performed by Nora Brown & Stephanie Coleman at The Greystones in Sheffield, earlier this year. Nora played it on guitar with a flatpick, my arrangement in Double C is based on that version. He was just a blue-eyed Boston boy, His voice was low with pain, "I'll do your bidding, comrade mine, If you will do the same. But if you ride back, and I should fall, You'll do as mu...

Just each tune played twice, Double C tuning. The video is out of focus due to my own incompetence.
Crossing the Bar (Lord Tennyson, Rani Arbo)
มุมมอง 2912 หลายเดือนก่อน
Words by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, tune by Rani Arbo. Tuning is G standard. Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out th...
Across the Rocky Mountain/The Old Blue Bonnet - Nora Brown & Stephanie Coleman
มุมมอง 2132 หลายเดือนก่อน
Recorded at The Greystones, Sheffield, England, 31st of May 2024. 0:00 - Across The Rocky Mountain 3:35 - The Old Blue Bonnet Not sure what the deal with uploading this is but I thought it a shame not to share since this was a particularly good performance of Across the Rocky Mountain.
Geordie (Joan Baez, Marfa)
มุมมอง 582 หลายเดือนก่อน
I don't remember if I first heard the recording by @marfram or Joan Baez, but those are the two main influences behind my version. Listen to Marfa's version here th-cam.com/video/UIUzsqBUXQQ/w-d-xo.html As I walked out over London bridge, One misty morning early, I overheard a fair pretty maid, Was lamenting for her Geordie. My Geordie will be hanged in a golden chain, ‘Tis not the chain of m...
The Burning of Auchindoun
มุมมอง 5032 หลายเดือนก่อน
I heard this song from @A.W.GeddesMusic and this arrangement is based on Maddy Prior & June Tabor's version. Tuning is gDGA#D. As I came in by Fiddich side all on a May morning, I met with Willie Macintosh an hour before the dawning. “Turn again, turn again, turn again I bid ye. If ye will burn Auchindoun, Huntly, he will head ye.” “Heed me or hang me, that will never fear me. I will burn Auchi...
One for Jo (Bert Jansch)
มุมมอง 613 หลายเดือนก่อน
By Bert Jansch. It's one for Jo, Don't let your man go. He's a dreamer darling, He's even kind'a slow. I don't believe the tales he tells, But they're always nice to hear. He's a dreamer darling, Always keep him near. In a white tuxedo, He's remarkably cool, A prince of living, Who knows all the rules. In a black sedan so royally, He takes his love to school, And no-one can reproach him, No-one...
The Ways of Man (Gordon Bok)
มุมมอง 2163 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Ways of Man by Gordon Bok. I have recorded this before but it's such a beautiful song that I make no apology for posting it again. From the album's liner notes: "I wrote this song while doing the music for a public television documentary on the maritime history of Maine called "Home to the Sea." It became the theme song, with Ann Mayo Muir singing the full version of the song at the end of ...
Prickly Bush (Nic Jones)
มุมมอง 2023 หลายเดือนก่อน
Also known as the "The Maid Freed From The Gallows" or "Gallows Pole", I first heard this particular tune & set of lyrics by Nic Jones, though there are many variations from Lead Belly to Led Zeppelin and more. "Hangman, stay your hand. Won't you stay it for a while? I think I see my Father coming, And he's all on yonder stile." "Father did you bring me gold, Or silver to pay my fee? Or have yo...
The Dawning of the Day
มุมมอง 1263 หลายเดือนก่อน
On Raglan Road, on an autumn day, I saw her first and knew That her dark hair would weave a snare, That I might one day rue. I saw the danger and I passed Along the enchanted way, And I said “Let grief be a fallen leaf” At the dawning of the day. On Grafton Street in November, We tripped lightly along the ledge Of a deep ravine where can be seen The power of passions pledged. And the Queen of H...

Real nice, Thomas
I like it as well! I've just recently tuned to this on my banjo as well bc I mainly play mountain dulcimers tuned to DADD or DGDD so I'm just moving songs from the dulcimer to banjo!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is really good!
Sounds good Thomas 🙏🏻
I wish, I wish, my baby was born..?
AWSOME!
That's very nice.
Thanks!
the birds sing praises, even though the world has all but went silent mentioning the Lords name.
"I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out."
Thank you thomas, you are sunshine, denmark.
Thank you!
Even better than the original. Wow.
Thank you! I disagree wholeheartedly.
Most wonderful, thank you for sharing!
Thank you Tyler! My pleasure.
👍as always Thomas, wonderful music & scenery. Thank you!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

Listening here from somewhere thousands miles away. Breathtaking handswork and scenery. God bless ya Sir!
@@kevincupy thank you!
That transition is ridiculously smooth. "I leaned my back up against an oak/Thinkin' it was a trusty tree/But first it bent and then it broke/Just like my own false love to me."
Thank you. That’s my favourite verse, broken trees bear no fruit and no one can take rest in the shade of a fallen tree.
@@ThomasOwenFolk Mine too...the song would not stand out to me if not for that one verse. Indeed they cannot. I suppose the speaker can only mourn that fact.
@@chickenindoubleC Certainly, the one who consigns himself to search for shelter under fallen trees can do nothing but mourn.
Gorgeous in every way, Thomas. Thank you for sharing!
I just finished the song completely--wow, powerful story.
Thanks, you’re welcome!
Very, very good. Denmark bless.
Thank you, Denmark!
Muy buen trabajo Thomas, está muy bien, enhorabuena y gracias desde Madrid
Thank you!
This is one of the best-sounding arrangements of the tune I've ever heard. Very nice!
Thanks!
Magnífica interpretación Thomas, está muy bien, enhorabuena y hasta pronto
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
I love this haunting melody. The guitar is perfect. Nice image, too.
Thank you very much, I love the melody too. Tia Blake’s version (which this is based on) has a whistle accompaniment which is especially haunting and beautiful.
Time for me to have another binge of your videos. Cheers
Cheers, enjoy!
You won't regret it!!
This is fantastic, Thomas. Go Niners!
Thank you Kyle! 49er faithful 😎
Great music & wonderful scenery (Wales?)......what more would one want? Thanks Thomas & greetings from Canada
Thank you! Yes, this is at Glaslyn Nature Reserve between Llanidloes and Machynlleth.
AMAZING SCENE
This sounds great! Thanks to the algorithm for sending you my way
Thanks!
Most excellent and awesome scenery. Beautiful!
Thank you Tyler! This is an old video but I’ll be heading up to this spot again very soon, beautiful country. 🏴
Sounds amazing
Thanks!
Excellent, Sir Thomas
Thank you Kyle!
Beautiful. I have never read the poem or heard the song. Mournful, but hopeful. I also had to look up "crossing the bar". Beautiful lyrics and sound enhanced by excellent singing and playing.
Thank you. I particularly love “… and after that, the dark.” it is at the same time both a subtle and a vivid euphemism for death.
Buen trabajo Thomas, enhorabuena una vez más y gracias desde Madrid, like 3
Thank you Jose!
The best, always. You just keep getting better. Impossible!
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
I really like this Thomas, and since you're reading this it's already too late for any action. I am going to share this video to all of my friends.
😂 So true
Thank you Tyler, I’ll appreciate the extra view!
When you first started to sing, I thought your voice sounded akin to Nick Drake's.......both yours & his making me imagine I'm beautifully drifting on a cloud. Thanks for posting Thomas!
Thanks! I’m glad that it brought you such a pleasant sounding experience!
You do these haunting melodies very well Thomas. Nice work.
Thank you, Mr Gifford!
That was amazing! Liked and subbed
Thanks!
Listening while I edit my nature photos. I've been subbed for a year now, enjoying the music a lot! Thanks from Ohio
Thanks! Glad you like it.
I love hearing the banjo played with a more melancholy character like this!
Me too!

Hey, I just want to say that I love this song. I loved the shorter version, too, the one where you played outside, and the birds sang with you, but this is the one I come to when things look grim or dark. I leave on Monday for boot camp. No phones, no music. I'm going to miss having this here to come back and listen to. Like I reassuring friend. I just wanted to let you know of the impact your music has had on a total stranger over so many months. Thank you for this. Really, thank you.
Tom, I love this song too - both long & short versions. The two versions have a thread of heavenward hope that runs through them. I think the short version is characterised by doubt and uncertainty, whereas the long version is characterised by fear & trembling. This song in particular has been something of a meditation for me so I’m pleased to hear that this recording has been a source of comfort to you. I wish you all the best as you leave for bootcamp. - Thomas.
Your videos were recommended to me. Algorithm doing its job. Great performance.
Thanks very much, I’m glad it got recommended and you liked it! P.S. I’m something of a fountain pen enthusiast myself!
Really pretty
Thanks!
