Vunak was doing BJJ way before it was known in the UFC , almost all of Vunak’s instructors now are Black or Brown belts in BJJ as well as JKD and Kali . Paul encouraged all his instructors to be proficient on the ground , and BJJ was the grappling art he encouraged .
You don't ramble for ages, wasting the students' time, when you're having a class. You teach, you don't get self absorbed and start telling stories cuz you like to hear yourself talk. This fool thrives on people knowing nothing and he likes to be viewed as something more than he is. He says for example the jab is the hardest thing to read, WRONG. The hardest thing to read in terms of hand strikes is for example the straight lead, which is a staple of Jeet Kune Do but ofcourse this guy doesn't know that because he actually never did JKD, he did nothing but a misunderstanding of it that was labeled JKD when it never was which means he never did the straight lead, so the only reference he has for what is the hardest strike to read is the jab, really pathetic. And if you wanna be dispassionate in a fight you fucking learn to fight, you learn Jeet Kune Do properly, cuz some wannabe instructor getting carried away with stories and wasting your time by saying you should be dispassionate is not how you learn to be dispassionate, it's something you learn as a result of gaining skill in the martial art. This guy is a total fool and bought into the whole concepts bullshit and he only impresses idiots that can see through his BS. He's the idiot's wise man or whatever.
The wierd thing about kung fu punches is that they produce force concentrated in a very small area. The force of those strikes doesn't do much to a punching bag, but does a lot to a human body. There is another component to a punch that's not covered in this video is the power produced through kinetic linking.
Love this video. Respect to Paul. The only thing, most mainstream people, including myself do not carry knifes. Most knife attacks will happen when you are bare handed. Defanging the snake without a blade, I would like to see bare handed skill versus knife.
Dan Inosanto is one of the big gest frau dst ers in martial arts. His "as many arts as possible" (his words). Was designed to keep students coming in paying him money. Sc ammer.
I had these VHS tapes from Panther Productions, i miss the info in them. I was a underweight person, i trained with these tapes, made me very strong, These videos are worth their weight in gold as they say. I thank the channel here for uploading this information.
Good explanation. I do a lot of different gym stuff. For multiple things judo boxing muay Thai bjj wrestling. Dead lift different squats version's body weight pull ups sit ups push ups chin ups and other exercises assault bike mountain hiking
Even Mike Tyson couldn't hit you if you are using Dumog....I'd like to have seen Paul demonstrate that at the time (!!).... All the same, an awesome instructional vid on the subject.....
Yes this reminds me of the movie Longstreet where while training the blind man his friend challenges Bruce and he could not get a strike in because Bruce read every move he was about to make and countered and intercepted them!
Paul Vunak is a great teacher and I've learned a lot from watching his videos. That being said, 99% of the time you are NOT GOING TO HAVE A KNIFE on you if you get attacked. You are going to have to learn how to defend yourself without one. Like it or not, that means blocking, counterattacking, trapping, and disarming. All the stuff he says doesn't work, DOES work. If you have time to put a checking arm there, then you've proven that you can block a knife attack. If you have time to "counter-cut" the attacking arm, then you've proven that I could counterpunch or kick in that time instead. Where he goes "roof block" (checking arm + knife cut), that would be an outward forearm side block + front snap kick to the groin if I were unarmed. If I'm in close, I just grab you and toss you. If I'm out at range, I can kick your legs, knees, or whatever it takes to keep you at range. It's not an ideal situation to fight someone with a knife, but it's definitely possible if you know what you're doing, and it isn't irresponsible to teach people how to protect themselves when they're unarmed. Giving up is NOT an option.
Paul Vunak is one of the best on self-defence in my point of view. Everything he teaches is based in reality and experience. There are a lot of people still today who promote their style and call it self-defence and then comes a lot of bullshit, but Vunak is different.
This guy's hand speed is otherworldly. In videos where they show his technique in slow-mo, his hands are still a blur. I've never seen anything like it.
VERY GOOD VID BUT NOT MANY PEOPLE CARRY A KNIFE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES,,, WOULD LIKE TO SEE A VID ON REALISTIC DEFENCE IF YOU HAVE NO KNIFE BUT R GETTING ATTACKED BY ONE
Had this series when it came out, have done and still do the magic marker thing , or spar with them. The unique thing about knives as a weapon besides requiring no strength , or even training , is they don't even require a person to do serious damage. I've cut myself bad enough to need stitches from a knife just sitting in a sink. and 4x with a putty knife in my back pocket at work. So imagine somebody with will and intention coming at you with one. And thats assuming you even get to see them before you feel them.
You know, this man is a true master. Very rarely do you see someone these days who takes encapsulates the idiom of a fighter practising a single move 10,000 times, but he does. No BS here, just a few simple, to the point, effective techniques, that one can hone to perfection.
Great stuff, but I can't help thinking... the more urgent fighting technique desperately needed, is the Art of keeping people who are into knife fighting out of your country.
Just to point out: Brad says no country music but sings Roger Miller?
In the book he made an exception for Walt. According to Evan Wright, he had a really good voice and brad went along with it.
Rispetto Vunak è il maestro del mio! Dispiace vederlo 'ammalato'..✊️
Awesome teacher
living legend sharing the truth.
What if the student parried during the demo??

Dude, he's so soft-spoken Youd never think he had a GENUINE calling for violence. I love it
i love how they used a knife as the scene wipe haha

This guy is one of the baddest men on the planet.
This is still.a great video today.!
You got2 kill me🤺🦅
if people knew how genius Bruce Lee's combat philosophy was they wouldn't be dissing and dismissing the master so badly
Great stuff Paul in his prime

best defense would be to have a pistol so you could just shoot the guy with the knife
I don't know why this came up on my feed, but im glad it did😊
This makes more sense than using your arm. You still don't want to he on the receiving end of any weapon
Fear is the mind killer
Dude i wanted to see.. more.🦵 fuh

0:32 i love Mcnulty's hysterical laugh
I knew Vunak did isometrics by the way he moves. I’ve been doing them for years and my speed, quickness, and strength as increased exponentially.

Is he for real ? This must be a joke??!! 😀
McNulty just fucking around single handedly kept me in with the slow start of season 2
Paul Vunak will whip someone's A with at least five or more martial arts 😂
This is some really good advice.

he is an idiot. Its all BS.
I hope those are not real knives. They are coming so close to each other that an accidental cut could happen.

Real good stuff. Legit.
