Rebuild your Buell XB Early (Old Style) Fuel Pump! If you have a round fuel pump drain plug (build dates of late 2002 to September of 2004) then this video is for you. Using our Aagaard Moto Foundry Fuel pump rebuild kit we walk you through the entire process of rebuilding your pump.

So very important that you disassemble and inspect your steering head bearings! It could very well save your life, not joking here. All motorcycles rely on properly maintained steering head bearings. Too loose or tight and you can lose control and crash. This applies to all makes and models, not just Buells.

Great video, I'm just wondering how do you know if you're looking at the notch at TDC on the front or TDC on the rear cylinder if the notches look the same?
Hopefully the new Buell factory is not using Carter to design and build their pumps again this time around. The list of defects built into these pump assemblies is long for the limited amount of these that they were produced for EBR: The diode's location, bad soldering on the wiring, bad crimp jobs on the wiring, the sock filter location smashed against the plastic housing (choking off the fuel flow), the fuel float.

i built this sohc 750 chop and forgot to lube the bearings, made it real fun going round roundabouts with all the rusty sticking , so yeah, lube ya balls.

I wish i had someone in my area that knew how to work on these bikes, struggling with a couple issues myself. I am not mechanically inclined at all though and dont have access to tools. I suspect my issue could be power commander/auto tune related. :(
CHAZZZZZZZ!!! Woah! I didn't realize this was YOUR video. EXCELLENT! ------------ I'm looking at doing this repair to my 2007 XB12SCG. I am having a rather difficult time with 2nd Gear engagement. I'm looking at purchasing an assembled main and countershaft from a 2007 XT as well as the three shift forks incase one of mine is a little bendy. (why can't we have 6 gears?)
I want to follow the instructions on this so bad. However the clutch assembly nut spins even with the primary locking tool in place. Am I missing something here? The primary was opened up with no real evidence of anything wrong other than non magnetic metal chunks found inside the primary cover. I thought I could just pull the assembly and see if anything is wrong with the primary side of the engine/ transmission case.
I assume you have your clutch plates removed then?
Great vid. I have an 1190 as well and my throttle free play changes as I turn the bars. Do you have a view showing how they are run? Granted I did not disconnect mine from the handle bars when I removed my tub. I’ll try that first. Then readjust the cables.

Could you clarify, is that a check valve that fuel flows through, or is it a pressure relief valve for the system? I was curious because looking at the assembly it doesn’t seem that fuel flows through it when it enters that rail. Thanks for any knowledge you could impart!
The answer is yes, to both. The small in-line unit acts as both a one way check valve (fuel is kept from returning) AND a pressure relief. Buell realized that this valve was not a precision made unit, and saw too much cycling time. This led to early failures and was the main reason they went to PWM pumps with high pressure regulators in 2010. We have a prototype which has a check valve and blow off as separate units and will allow for pump rebuilds, rather than a whole new pump.
Ahh ok, so with the PWM system what is the need for that particular valve? Could it not be eliminated all together? With the ecu controlling the fuel pressure and I’m assuming the pump has a over pressure relief valve already in place, could there not just be a basic check valve in-line outside the tank and just a direct line or rail from the pump to the filter? Maybe I’m missing something, and sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the wisdom! and I’m very hopeful on the prototype you mentioned, that would be much less headache and cost than replacing the whole assembly by far.

Yes, exact same principle. You’ll have a nut on the engine side rather than a bolt as shown in my video. Jim’s tool 2318 or make your own. The 4 inch brass hinge trick I mentioned is a bit too small for your m2
Hey boss I got a 2000 x1 new battery dies and voltage drops when started . I’m trying to test stated but I’m not sure if the wire that’s on right side going into motor kinda under battery/seat. I tried to test the connector but I’m not sure if it’s the right one or if I’m doing it wrong . There’s a grey and black one with orange silicone it’s connected to gray black doesn’t have anything connected I can’t find anything on internet about the connectors I’m lost man :/. I’d rather check before removing all what’s needed
Question I have a Buell 1125r. Ive noticed when my keys is off I can hear my pump continuously running I bought it from the original owner with 4800 miles on it now it has 5800 miles on it it's done that since I bought it I usually just disconnect the battery I'm thinking it has a fuel pump issue or the relay issue have you seen this on any of them?
The noise your hearing is normal and is the pump cycling to keep fuel moving in the line so that it does not vapor lock. No need to disconnect the battery!
