Wood Turning: A Sheoak Seed Pod & Grey Box Gum Hybrid Bowl
In this video I turned a bowl from Sheoak Seed Pods and Grey Box Gum. It reminded me of why I don't like turning resin much - too much mess and hard on the tools! 😂😂😂

Not sure if it works with wood as well, but with plastics a few drops of isopropyl alcohol break the bond with hot glue and releases it cleanly!
Awesome thank you! I’ll give that a try! 👍🏻
Impressive work, great idea
Thank you very much John, appreciate that! 😀
That came up fantastic, the seed pods really stand out and are beautiful feature in the base of the bowl. Each with an individual patten.
Thanks Brendan - appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
Those seed pods turned out great, the color of the epoxy I think works really well with the wood and the seeds this is a fantastic bowl. Was just the video I needed to see this morning to get me motivated and out in the shop turning my next one.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate your feedback and time taken to watch and comment! Hope you manage to turn something fun today!
@@surfcoastwoodcraft Ive got a block of Juniper on the lathe just waiting for me to turn that I need to have done by next Thursday. So that will hopefully be my evening. Cant wait to see what you turn next.
Sounds great!
Looking good!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice 🌞
Thank you! Cheers!
Definitely don't want a slap in the knuckles from that! Nice project, well done :)
Thank you, much appreciated. 😃
Need to start with a bigger piece of wood
🤣🤣🤣 I did make a lot of shavings!
Good work, wonderful if you implemented different colours
Thank you! Cheers! 😀

Ha who knows? It’s was for a bit of fun that’s all! 😄👍🏻

I'll have to try different sizes, shapes and wood species. This is gonna be fun.
Looking at your channel and what you do you’ll be able to try making some huge sized ones of these! 😂 Can’t wait to see what you come up with!!!! 👍🏻
@@surfcoastwoodcraft there are some projects I need to finish first but I'll let you know 😉
Looking forward to it!
Nice work, thanks for sharing. Full view and Like 👍
Thank you! 😃
That’s a great idea, I’ve got some cedar I’ve been trying to decide what to do with now I know.
Awesome, glad you’ve got some inspiration! 😃
Interesting idea and a great result. If you found the wood, was it still wet or did you store it for a while?
Hi Mike, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Yeah it’s been in my garage for around a year so wasn’t completely dry….I expect it will move and possibly crack especially as it has the pith in still but we’ll see! 😃
Great idea! Pity the crotch wasn’t god enough to use!
Thank you! ☺️
Love this! That wood turned out great. Never thought about using a wood vase/pot to store brushes
Thank you! 😊
Very cool
Thanks mate! Appreciate the time taken to watch and comment! 😃
Bro hell yes I'm totally turning me one out !!! Awesome idea and execution
Thanks mate, really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment - would love to see what yours comes out like! 👍🏻
@@surfcoastwoodcraft yeah man I'll have to set up a camera or two and start filming... In time, still learning
Good on you. Best way to learn in my opinion is to give it a go. I’ve only been turning a couple of years now myself….every day is a school day! 😂

Hello sir , how are you, What is the use of this? Thank you so much.
Hey thank you for watching - there is no real use for it really apart from having a bit of fun making it and it looks nice on the shelf! 😅
Thats pretty cool.
Thank you! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! 😃
Beautiful piece of wood 😍😍
Thank you, I really appreciate that! 😀
Still utterly surprised by your lack of subscribers

Thanks for watching…..So glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Thanks for sharing. Beautiful piece. Full View and Like 👍
Many thanks 🙏
Amazing!
Thank you!
Way cool. But just wondering why you didn’t sand the paint off when you glued the two halves together? Wood glue works best when it can penetrate the wood fibers
Hi, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment…..Great point, to be honest I had planned on doing it but just got carried away and totally forgot to do so…..🤣
Very nice. Haven’t seen that drill carving burr before, interested in getting one if you could let me know the details. Cheers from the far south coast NSW.
Hi Jenny, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. This burr was bought cheap off Temu….im sure you could probably get one from Bunnings but it was cheaper to go off the internet. 😆
❤
thank you!
Love the bowl. Was the wood sourced locally? I’ve never turned splatted wood, would love to give it a go. Cheers from the far south coast NSW
Thank you! Yes, I made friends with a local arborist who drops me off bits of wood occasionally that he thinks I'd like to turn. I had this sitting in my garage for the last 6 months in a dampish corner to help get the spalting going. Wasn't expecting to turn out quite so nice. I have another bit sitting there so can't wait to turn that too. 😀
This wood is stunning, love the pattern and the beading you added. I never think about doing beading. Great work!
Thanks mate - really appreciate it! It wasn't meant to be a bowl but once I cut it and saw the spalting I knew I could't do anything else with it apart from keeping it simple and let the wood do its thing! This was my first time trying true bead work - I saw a recent video by Richard Raffan on his beaded pot and thought I'd give it a go......
Nice one. Good to see you got back to the lathe for the weekend.
Yep finally managed to find a bit of time to get back on the horse so to speak!
Love the spalting on that! 👏🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice sir
Thank you for the kind feedback and for taking the time to watch and comment! 😀
Love the look of your sphere.
Thank you. Not as round as I would have liked but good to practice!
I have yet to attempt a sphere of any kind. That is one skill i need to work on going forward. This looks awesome though well done!
Thanks mate, appreciate that. This was my first go at one too. Not as round as I would have liked but nearly…..

Impressive but looks so dangerous with that log turning about. Namaste 🙏
Thank you - yes wood turning can be dangerous but I take as many precautions as I can.
Cool design !
Thank you! Glad you liked it! 😃
Link for the light used? Curious on that plastic used for the light.
Hey Keith thanks for commenting. The lights were some cheap led lights from bunnings in Australia. I also think the plastic was a draw liner from there too….
Extremely nice work. Got a new fan in Alabama here.
Thank you Bobby, really appreciate that!
Nice to see a Turner using wood 🪵 instead of plastic and resin. Nature is far more butifull than these.
Thank you. I’ll be honest….I have used resin on a couple of projects but totally agree that you can’t beat nature in its purest form. 🌳 🪵 🥣
thanks for decent length video with the Buster Keaton approach.
Your welcome!
Very nice. Never turned cypress pine but look out for some now. Cheers
Yeah it’s lovely to turn and a great grain to it too!
Stunning!
