    Aside from some weight savings I don't see why anyone would get this monstrosity over the Haven Hammock Tent. Haven obviously didn't invent the bridge hammock but they improved the original bridge design idea so that it becomes applicable for ordinary people. Great video btw

      @ruggedoutdoorsguide9904 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey Roman; Thanks for the comment. A couple of observations: The price of the Haven is similar to the Helsdon so no big difference on that front. Aside from that, the Helsdon has more storage space and has a 360 degree bug net that automatically deploys when you zip yourself in for the night. Also, because of the Helsdon's design, it sets up in under 60 seconds (and that's not trying to do it in a hurry - it's just that easy working at a normal pace). No need for rain fly setup - it's built in. No need for storage outside or under the canoe - it's built right in. No need for a bug net - it's built right in. That's why this tent (IMO) beats the Haven easily. However, we all have our own takes on things so I live and let live!

      @@ruggedoutdoorsguide9904The Haven has an integrated bugnet and the rainfly can stay permanently attached. I'm currently testing it in heavy rain with 90% humidity yet no condensation issues so far. On the Helsdon it looks like as if you're basically laying in a straight rift whereas the Haven gives me a nearly perfectly even sleeping surface due to the semi integrated sleeping pad.

    When l did the newspaper strips years ago l lightly crushed up the newspaper first then cut it into strips and put scotch tape to hold it closed then tied it with twine. I then held the end of the twine and dipped it into the wax a couple of times. It burns well enough to start sbout any kind of fire. I think it is a little less messy.

    I just looked up the fire starters you showed from Lowe’s. You sure got a deal! Maybe they were mismarked 😳. I just checked. Lowes and Home Depot didn’t list them. Walmart’s price is $37.00 for the 48 count brick. Inflation is really bad down here in the States 🤪, but that’s a crazy amount. Good for you and thanks for the video. If anyone find those firestarter for less than 10 bucks please reply to my comment. Have a great day!

    I have been dehydrating so far. I have not been aware that dehydrating diminishes the nutritional value of the food you dehydrate. Would you know how much is being lost? I am surprised that in your rural area, there are 50 people with the freeze dryer who are ready to rent theirs. That being the case I do not think that it is very likely that someone would make money from it as there is too much competition.

      Technically yes. However, I do know that if you get caught by Conservation officers in the park (they'll have a little car topper aluminum boat and motor), they'll allow you to pay for one on the spot with their satellite credit card processor.

    Some details that might interest you! 1. When trying to center the canoe on your car, the foam canoe blocks can sometimes roll right off the gunnels if you push from the canoe from the side side while it is on your car roof. Ouch! Pool noodles work better than the foam canoe blocks! I use 4 four-foot pool noodles for my 17-foot canoe - two on either side. Cut a slice right down the center from end to end and push them onto the gunnels. They are stiff, thick, inexpensive, easy to install, and easy to find. Also, since I'll have up to 8 feet of pool noodle on each gunnel, you have little chance of scratching your car. If you can't find pool noodles, you can also pick up pipe insulation from the hardware store. They will work the same and are already split down the center. 2. If you don't already have a roof rack, don't bother getting one for your canoe! It's easier without it. Most are screwed into the sheet metal of your car's roof. If you put too much stress on them with straps, they can pull right off! Most roof racks are made of hard plastic and will break! Driving down the highway at 60 miles an hour with a canoe will create a lot of stress on the rack anchor points. They really are not designed to carry a canoe. The above method is more strong and secure, and provide more surface contact between your car and canoe. Plus, you don't have to buy a roof rack! 3. Rather than using a center strap that goes through the back door frames, through the inside cabin and across the top of the canoe, try this instead. Get another set of hood attachments that he used for the engine compartment. Open the back doors, place one on either side of the back door frame, and close the door on the strap. Then use the straps as anchor points for a strap across the top of the canoe. Just don't open the back doors until you are ready to unstrap the canoe. The straps are easy to make and will cost less as a DIY. 4. Just shaking your canoe once it's on the roof to see if it moves is not a good test of how well it will preform under the stress of the wind at 60 miles an hour. Be aware that the straps on the front will pull the canoe forward toward the front. The anchor points that attach to the back need to pull the canoe back in the opposite direction. As an illustration, imagine you are driving down the highway with your canoe strapped on the roof. The car in front of you stops suddenly and your canoe goes flying into his rear window. Make sure that the rear straps are situated so that the canoe will not drift forward from a sudden stop. Happy canoeing!

    At first I thought oh no, another cotton round and news paper DIY wax video. I’ve been in situations where 1, 5 minute fire starter was not enough. What I liked about your fire starters was the sustained length of time that they stayed lit with, a useable flame. I especially liked the multi pad method. Having fallen into water over my head in the middle of winter steelhead fishing, I experienced that situation that I thought would never happen to me. Had I not had a cinched wader belt on and a quick way to make fire I, wouldn’t be here. At times like that you don’t have time to use your knife to shave fat wood or use a bow drill to make a fire. Although not cheap I, carry Orion campfire pro flares with me and Hell’s Fire fire starting clay for those, it’s never going to happen to me situations. I’m going to make some multi pad paraffin fire starters at my next chance. Thanks for the video. The 893

    There is more of an art involved with mastering a single paddle and it takes experience. Double paddles are quite easy to figure out much sooner. For that reason, I prefer to use a single blade because it's more of a challenge and more interesting to use, not to mention more versatile. I will admit that double can be faster, but I'm not in a race on canoe trips. Just my opinion.

    • @ruggedoutdoorsguide9904

    (Problem with comparing these). I couldn't find the spec's of the RPM's. I would totally bet both motors have the same RPM. Also, the same pitch prop. So, technically speaking, both motors should just about do the same. Although! Adding a little more power to be more efficient will increase speed, and quicker acceleration. So, if one was to step up to an 80lb thrust. Still probably wouldn't see much of a speed increase. It actually might start decreasing due to weight in the boat. But boy-O-boy it sure would take off fast.

    6:02 hi there! I do appreciate your video. Thank you so very much. here’s a little knowledge I’ve learned…. Hi kayak fish and I started off with a Minco to 30, what I did was go to a Bait shop that deals with minn kota. I cut the shaft down to 28 inches and that is perfect for kayak because you can do a 360 without the blade hitting your kayak also it helps when you get to shallow waters… I have upgraded from a lifetime fishing kayak to a pelican catch 100. I’m currently running a 55 on that yak with a 120 lithium battery.. all my trolling motors are cut down to 28 inches so far I haven’t had any problems with the shaft. It’s just I don’t go fast enough… but all it was a learning adventure now I just need friends to go fishing with……

    That’s the exact dilemma I’ve had - everybody points you to CLUPA but how to use it is clear as mud. “90% of Ontario is Crown Land” but where is it??!! And where can I camp for free? Even people at an outdoor gear store couldn’t answer that. One additional step I see is to open the “report” on the information sidebar, but that just dumps a ton of data on the screen about a million possible uses, but one tiny line says something cryptic about “camping”…not a definite yes or no but “maybe” or “it depends”. Beauracracy run amok, but I think you have saved the day.

I would even say that if you're going the way of a cigarette lighter, forget Bic, use a propane lighter that can be used upside down (much easier to light campfire kindling than a Bic that needs to be held carefully since the flame will go "up". Propane lighters can shoot the flame down or sideways. :)
