Gary vs an Intercity 125
🚂 Watch me drive an actual Intercity 125! 🚂
Well, this was bound to happen eventually. They let me behind the controls of an actual Intercity 125, and somehow, no one stopped me. Join me as I take the reins (or rather, the throttle) of one of Britain’s most iconic trains on the stunning Nene Valley Railway, in association with 125 Preservation ( 125preservation/)
Prepare yourself for a journey that combines the thrill of high-speed rail (kind of), the charm of British countryside, and my best attempt at not derailing things-literally or figuratively. Expect plenty of laughs, a few questionable decisions, and the occasional moment of sheer panic as I navigate the tracks with all the expertise you’d expect from someone who has absolutely no business being here.
All aboard the Brannan Express! Parp parp!
Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoy watching me get into situations I’m definitely not qualified for.
And if you'd like a go, you can book to do the same wonderful experience (and more) here: nvr.org.uk/section.php/3/1/

The Great York Walk 2024
มุมมอง 2.7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Great York Walk is a charitable, 26 mile walk in support of Mentally Fit York. yustart.hubbub.net/p/garysyorkwalk4 This will be my 4th attempt - can I make it to the end and break 100 miles walked? Will I be in any sort of fit physical state at the end? And will my walking companion kill me on account of my excellent jokes?

Sent to the Middle East on urgent non-diplomatic business, I ride a camel, smoke a pipe, and take in the cultural highlights. Warning - contains brief naughtiness. Thanks to Emirates Tours and Safari LLC: eatours.ae/

25 miles around the city in aid of Mentally Fit York - this time in HD! (previous version now unlisted but still there, thought you'd perhaps rather see the city not in smear-o-vision)

Sorry, it's 12 months late but here it is - 25 miles in less than 25 minutes. Thanks to EVERYONE who donated then, and is donating this year for the 2023 version. You want to get in on it? Donate at yustart.hubbub.net/p/garysyorkwalk3/?ref=328560
Great video gary, I absolutely love the HST, my most favourite livery was virgin trains it was just the red that catches your eye. 👍
Brilliant stuff, Gary! I’d love to see more of your adventures, whether they be near or far!
Gary, of course, only knows the rules of extreme croquet.
ever after seein ya on Tech Diff, i always wondered what Toms Scotts channel would be like, with you at the helm instead, now i know, 1000% better! <3
You know its a success story for British engineering when it includes a failure for British engineering
Heh, just the other day I listened to the Well There's Your Problem episode on the Advanced Passenger Train, so this feels like some nice supplemental material to that history...
Glad to see another TechDiff/WTYP crossover fan!
I wonder how good the 125s would be at the volleyball championships in Paddington
All I can think of when I see everybody's favourite Gary Brannan, Gary Brannan say "I'm the driver" is the TechDiff episode where they were talking about airplanes and someone (Matt I think?) said "I'm the driver!" Also for reference, 125mph is about 200km/h. Congratulations to Gary!
Gary: I'm a speedboat Matt: I'm driving the speedboat Tom: this is the technical difficulties and we're playing cita... are you driving Gary???
Technically there are still class 43s running for now in Scotland under scotrail. Don't know for how long like, seems to be some murmurs about them being replaced.
never say leaves on the line!!!!
Where was the goose? And did the train have a disco carriage?
I remeber being a kid, and my dad came home with a double O scale model of the 125 for our layout. I dont know who was more excited to get it running!
As someone from a country formerly in the British Empire, I have no idea what miles and yards are, but I do understand plasters so I've got that going for me which is nice
Brunel would be proud.
this is the shit!
So jealous! I got to drive a locomotive once when I was 13 and loved it so much! Hopefully I get to do it again some day!
Welcome to the Holy Mongol Empire!! We hope you brought baked potato sausage, though cilantro might appease our whims.
Paxman Valenta engines or the less gloriously noisy MTUs?
AND STILL, Everyone's favorite Gary Brannan, Gary Brannan
That was so cool! The history was really interesting too, although I remember the Intercity logo with the swallow from many journeys in 1988-9 due to relocating from the south east to the north west!
Incredible... Next step: driving a HST at 125 mph
Tom's newsletter sent me here. Love it! Gary vs trains will never get boring
0:15 I'm sorry, but this should've just been a hard-cut to you behind bars.
*But was there a goose on the train!?*
Didn't even know Gary had a channel!
I like this video
Ayyy! It’s everybody’s favourite Gary Brannan, Gary Brannan!
I came here expecting to watch you completely lose a fight
Lucky man!
seems a natural fit you in that seat. gary the conductor
1700 m to stop, level gradient normal adhesion 2 plus 8 consist. One mile and a quarter is signalled braking distance appendix C level gradient.
Now that's an experience I would love to do... Drive a HST 125.
So much fun. You’re right it was iconic. So many memories for me, and the HST class 43 was incredible while the APT just made me feel so motion sick compared to the 125.
Was there a goose on the train at any point?
Chances are I've worked behind that buffet bar.
Mum’s on the platform and she doesn’t know I’m driving!
Archival footage of trainses!? Gary, if you've got the time you should definitely make more videos like the history section here!
That's the plan!
I'm so glad I chose to use the 125 in my 'Goose vs Train' animation, now it ties back to this!
Feels weird seeing something you used often become a museum piece!
I Know. It makes me feel so old! Until just a few years ago these things were taking me up and down the country every single week. Now they are mostly gone from the national rail network and being shown off as a thing of our pasts. The 125s and 225s will both be missed as they are phased out. The new replacements for these leave a lot to be desired.
@@Koda14 never had a chance to ride a 225, I need to before time is up! 80Xs are not great but at least they're quieter and faster... Need new seats though!
The best part for me is: "Me mum and dad should be on the platform but they have no idea I'm driving this thing."
New series idea: Everybody's Favorite: {JOB} where you just do these things, and share your experience :D
Thanks for sharing your adventures Gary. Very cool.
Did... Did you actually tear up a bit during parts of this?
Were you the reason all my trains were delayed yesterday and today??
Crispy audio quality here. Worth it for everyone's favorite Gary Brannan
Slowly, little by little, Gary is going to turn into the TH-cam version of Fred Dibnah... ...how long do we give it before he turns up on Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels? ...well, that or Hyce talks to him about being on the train version of Citation Needed (Complete with mystery Citrus)
I would have appreciated an explanation of the controls, besides the “this is brake”
A perfect combo of Gary and trains!
This is why he's my favorite Gary Brannan, Gary Brannan. He is nerdy but in the best way possible, as well as extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Have to say I am extremely jealous of this experience you had, glad you enjoyed it!
10:20 did the guy open the door cos he just let one rip or was there a reason for it?
Possibly…..but he was also exchanging the single line token with the signalman!
He opened it to let Gary revel in the full effect of the sound of the diesel at full power.
