Excellent unboxing and painting my friend
Thankyou so much, your continued support of the channel is much appreciated.
I painted up 6 of these, look great, l did a red-orange armor.😊
Yeah they are nice and easy to paint up. Thanks for the comment.
These would be good for some fun kitbashing. The frost grave stuff is really nice detailed and and a fair price point. Lovely paint job, the armour pops
Yeah I always hope for more Frostgrave books, just for the miniatures that they release along side them. You know my channel by now, Kit bashing in 2 weeks lol! Thanks for the comment and continued support.
I love the red paint scheme! It really makes them pop!
Thanks they deffinitely stand out on my table. I usually paint with more earthy tones. Thanks for the comment.
They're a really fun kit, I've seen people kitbash the boot wearing bodies with Oathmark orc heads to make heavy orcs too which look really good!
Yeah I can see using orc heads would work well. I am in the middle o9f kitbashing some and the possibilities are vast. Thanks for the comment.
Great video, a nice introduction to a variety of smaller games.
Thankyou and I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Happy channel birthday! All the minis look great and I like the shrine a lot too!
Thanks for the birthday best wishes. Yeah I like making buildings, havent done it in ages, so rather rusty. Needed a little change of direction from painting minis for a bit. It helps as a palette cleanser.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 Terrain is so fun to build and paint!
@@Tim1000064 100% agree
Happy birthday to the channel, great update mate
Thanks for that. Its strange because my children were in Primary school when I started this channel. My eldest is now in college!
Wooo happy birthday! Another productive month. Looking forward to Rangers of Shadow deep.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Well considering I am not feeling like painting I did get a bit done. Hopefully the block is passing. Yeah I am actually looking forward to the Rangers project. It makes things alot easier when your riled up for a video. Will record the first video Monday and hopefully have it edited by next Friday. Best wishes
Happy birthday 🎂 may you and your channel be blessed with many more years. Love what you do,do you plan on ever doing a painting video?.
Thanks for the channel birthday wishes. I have done one painting video to try and see how I managed it. I would say it was not a great video, but it has had a few views. It was how I painted the night stalkers or something to that affect. It does seem like a few people want to see me painting something else. As you have asked I will put a poll up on the community and see what the response is like. Sound fair? Best wishes
I never varnish plastics any more. Never found it to make any difference other than altering my paint job.
Yeah I honestly wish I didnt need to. The colours are really messed up when I varnish them. I kind of need to varnish as some of the people I play with are not in the painting hobby themselves, so tend to be rougher than hobbiers.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 I've personally never seen paint chip off plastic models that were properly primed. I'd skip it honestly unless you buy the expensive Matte varnish from like GW or something
@@ImaginationHobbies Lol my players must be very rough as I have seen a few with paint rubbed off! Especially if the weapons are held aloft, that makes them prime grabbing spots.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 well I guess the only thing I'd say is you may be too far away with your primer to where it's not bonding. But if that's not the case just spend the extra money on high end matte varnish. Your painting is really good and you don't see all the effort with whatever varnish your using
I'm starting Ghost Archipelago and Frostgrave. I used to play Mordheim. I enjoy Necromunda but there's so many books and Noone around me plays.
Thanks for the kind comments. Yeah both Frostgrave games are a good choices. Plenty of things to make the games feel new each time. Plus you only need the base books to play! Finding players is always a problem and one I cant really advice you on. I play with family, neighbours and even meet someone while picking my kids up from school once Amazing how gamers notice the drybrushing on the back of other hobbiests hands.
An excellent top 10 mate nice and different
Thanks for the comment. Yeah I am! lol
Thank you for doing this review- glad you did this. You showed Rangers of shadowdeap in a different light for me. I might pick that up finally. Please give another look at 5 parsecs and 5 leagues- I think you’ll see that it’s more systematic than your initial thought.
Thanks for the kind comment. I am glad I can help steer you towards Rangers of Shadowdeep. I am not going to say its a game for everyone, but I think you get out of it what you want to put into it. I will read through the rules of 5 parsecs again. I will see if I was just in an odd mindset when I first read through it. It happens. Different games come into your life at different times, sometimes it was the wrong time. If you are interested in Rangers of Shadowdeep. I will be running through the campaign, starting in a couple of weeks. If all goes well!! Best wishes.
Just been looking and second edition of This is not a test is coming July for preorder😮
I knew it was coming but was really unsure as to when. Guess I know what to ask my wife to get me for my birthday!
Great video! Mr McCulloch always a win! Last Days ive really enjoyed playing it and thought theme came through. Stargrave was fun and agree more to do than frostgrave which was my fantasy go to but Rangers of Shadowdeep might have now replaced that after reading through rules, so again thankyou for the books! It's not a test I've never heard of but looks brilliant and I love when a game has weird spins on game mechanics 🍄
Thanks for the comments as always. Yeah it seems like I am a bit of a McCullough fan boy, although I hate joining CULTS! Frostgrave is a fun game because the enviroment is trying to kill you as well. Having a giant worm come from nowhere because of a loot goblin can be hilirious. The Rangers and Frostgrave are brothers but distinctly difference like most kin. Rangers could easily become a simple roleplaying system with little effort. Ash Barker said it was McCulloughs frustrated RPGer coming through, or words to that effect. Glad you are enjoying the books and I hope your path into the Shadowdeep is a fun one.
thankyou for posting enthusiastic vids. It's fun to see some one nerd out about such a huge hobby. I started with a game called Majestic 13. I have yet to fully grasp the mechanics and fundamentals, but I enjoy it.
Completely agree, and majestic 13 looks good, anything miniature agnostic is always a win
Thanks for those kind words. Yeah I know Majestic 13, by Snarling badger. Thats a fairly new game, so does that mean you have only just started out in the hobby? Its a good time to be getting into the hobby with all the options at the moment. Although because of the options I think decision paralysis would hit me fairly hard, if I was starting now. I am unsure of the exact mechanics of Majestic 13. After playing minis games for a while you start to see the similarities between games and it gets easier. I think my only advice would be, play as many games as you want, then reread the rules. Dont worry about getting every rule right the first few times. Also if the rules of the game are not right for you, try another one. Any question just ask, gamers in general are a fairly friendly bunch.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 sort of.. haha.. I bought it I think last winter..I wanted an indoor project and I enjoy gaming in general. I havnt made it through an entire campaign yet. I play through one or two skirmishes and then put it away for a month haha
@@tommylud4324 I know that feeling. Wargaming ADHD lol! Thats another bonous to solo play games, when you have had enough, you can stop and not ruin someone elses game.
I really like these and the Hobgrots that are part of the same faction are lovely as well. I managed to get a bunch of them both at a discount when they first came out and I've been quite pleased with them. They feel like what a Tolkien orc would look like in Warhammer as opposed to Warhammer's normal orcs. Oathmark orc and goblin shields and weapon hands size well with the hobgrots and you can kitbash them better then you'd expect for modern GW too.
Thanks for the comment, always appreciated. Discounted GW miniatures sound like a holy grail item to adventure for. Will have to keep an eye open for the Hobgrots you mentioned. Although have to find another body part to sell if getting them at retail prices. It really does feel very non GW to have all these parts that can fit on another makers model.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 They're normally so expensive, Troll Trader and eBay sometimes have good sales. I got mine at a good discount via Troll Trader during a sale but I don't know if they can still be found quite as cheap. Worth keeping an eye out though!
So I just randomly saw that the Hobgrots at least can still be found quite cheaply on Troll Trader at £8 for 10 minis still on sprue!@@welshminiatureboardgamer356
Loving the shields! They are very orky looking and not filled with random bits of small detail that swamp the mini. Grewt review
Thanks for that. Yeah they really did hit that sweet spot between detail and clutter. I loved the shields.
This perfectly shows my issue with GW they make these beautiful minis, but i cant justify the price point to play those larger games, skirmish level are easier to get to table and its good to see you showing they can be used in other games snd the scale works👍 also surprised how much extra bits you get after building the box up. They look nice with colour scheme and looking forward to the painting video!
Thanks as always Crafty. Yeah Gw make money and are a success in the market, but it reaaly does mangle my mind on how. The price thing is such a barrier to everone but those fans already invested in the hobby. I guess this is why I will never be rich, dont know how to fleece people and be ok with it! Yeah the painting video is going to be delayed as I am not feeling the painting motivation at the moment. The usual videos will be going up but longer working videos are slow going. Trying to switch to building for awhile to get painting mojo back.
It's hard to keep motivation up, that's why I did a few filler episodes last couple of weeks, but also your painting vid helped, showed me to stop doing the same things and but more loose with painting to get more fun out of it. Hence last one had no voice over and next one is very abstract to freshen it up a bit. Keep up good work and I've been reading the books you sent and will be doing a review on it after got couple of games under my belt
@@TheCraftyMini Cheers for that. I have been in the hobby on and off for 30+ years and I know my motivation comes and goes. Change focus for a short while then come back anew works for me. Have been enjoying your videos. I mostly watch you tube videos while crafting/painting. Kind of having a painting buddy along while I am working away. Glad you like the books have fun.
They look like good miniatures. I like your paint scheme. I haven't delved into Warhammer since the heady days of 6th edition as I am more of a skirmish wargamer these days...but these orcs look like,...well...orcs!! I like the size of them compared to the Frostgrave miniatures...when we play D&D, I always imagined the orcs we battle against as big brutes! Bet they are a bit pricey!
Thanks for the comment. Yeah i think you and I have similar feelings towards Gw games. Too expensive and too big amongst other gaming problems. The miniatures are really nice and these orcs especially hit that sweet spot of detail and clutter. Yeah I get what your saying about large orcs etc. If thats the scale your going for with orcs, you could always use Oathmark orcs as goblins. The sizes would work rather well. As for the price, and their worth! I guess thats upto the individual, but I didnt need that second kidney anyway!
Very nicely done, lovely color scheme!
Thabkyou very much. I never really give much thought to colour, more of paint as I go person.
Both of them look great!
Thankyou and that is very kind of you.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 You're welcome!
These look really good, were they easy to paint up being metal minis?
The painting is like uany other miniature to me. Its maybe the protecting them afterwards which takes alittle more. With metal miniatures they are obviously harder and heavier. So scratched happen easier. A good base coat and extra layer of varnish should solve problem.
These are beautiful minis, I need to take a dip in the game, also love the colours you've used
Mate be warned if you dip your toe into this game you will soon neck high in it! Check your emails...
Very cool figures
Yeah I liked them. Especially Merida, I mean Orla.
Really love this line, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment. Yeah really like Northstar minis.
I'd like to get myself a few of the Kings of War Nightstalkers and some Deadzone Plague models, I feel like some of the specific units from either range would work very well for when you're needing some more mutated bits for your Warhammer Chaos kitbashes
Yes I can see that working quite well. They are of a similar size and at the price you wouldn't feel too heart broken hacking at them. Only a mad man or a millionaire hacks up GW at their prices! lol
If you happen to stumble upon Deadzone, these minis can be used there as well - although you got to put a 40mm disc under the reapers so they will have a proper base size. If you can get an HQ for them, the butchers and a Horror alone can easily form a 150 pts strike team.
Hi and thanks for the comment. Yeah I know Deadzone, played it a fair bit a few years ago with my wife. Actually I think a deadzone video may have been one of the first for my channel. I had no idea that the nightstalkers could be used in that game. This is one of the reasons why I love Mantic as a company. They always give you more than they need to. Thanks for that. Will have to give Deadzone another play.
Good expansion, finally got it to the table recently, theme was good. Worked as a solo or team game
Thanks for the comment. Yeah that is good to hear. Our gaming group has been busy over the Christmas/ New year period so not much gaming going on at the moment. Hope you have a good New year and its hobby productive.
Papsikels minis are great, I have a raft of them in the back log somewhere for the Alien industrials hazmat teams
Yeah I have eyed them from afar for a fair time. Finally pulled the trigger and am sold on them. Thanks for the comment and hope you have a good new year.
Interested in those skaven and what you have planned! Some great minis and like the paint jobs on them. Looking forward to more painting videos. Keep it up bud as it pushes me to keep going also
Thanks mate. Yeah December always slows down for me with the kids off school etc, so the skaven thing will probably be in January or February now. Glad my vids can help motivate you. Have a great new year.
Those Skaven are fantastic, in particular the banners look incredible! I feel like your style would be great for skirmish wargames like Infinity, Malifaux, Shatterpoint, etc.
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah I love the look of both malifaux and infinity miniatures. I don't paint them because they are on the pricey side for me. I am a bit of a cheap skate when it comes to spending on minis I can't use in a game. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hey these are really nice! And I've also not known of this company before, so thank you for making this video! I'm gonna check their website now.
No problem. I am glad I could help.
Thanks for the video, it was very informative and helpful. I must admit that my painting has been less than ordinary of late, and whilst 'Slapchop' does help get minis onto the tabletop quickly, it leaves me feeling unsatisfied when they're done. I like the way your finished miniatures look and it was really enjoyable to see the brush 'in-action' so to speak! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!
Thanks for the kind words, I was kind of dreading publishing this video as its out of my comfort zone. I know what you mean about feeling unsatisfied with a paint job. I think all painters can relate. Like you said I also get it when I have rushed the project and not stopped to enjoy the process. Its that doubled edged sword of getting it done, and enjoying getting it done. The balance can be hard to achieve and I think we all chase the balance. If I could offer any advice it would be take your time with a couple of minis you like the look of. They dont have to be special or expensive minis, just ones you like the pose of or something. Enjoy the process again for a couple of mins. While getting it done with the others. Merry Christmas and hope all is well.
@@welshminiatureboardgamer356 I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year! Our's was cool for a change! I've just started doing up a new warband for RoSD and I'm just working on two miniatures at the moment...one, my new ranger is from the Sand Skirmishers box from the Song of Ice & Fire range and the other, a companion - Nelly the barmaid from Zombicide Black Plague...and I am enjoying just taking my time. It's been fun.
@@Bood_mun67 Rosd warbands are a nice way to go. Alittle bit of structure but not too many unit specific colours etc. The zombicide black plague minis are quite fun to paint, plenty of variation in the heroes. Glad to hear you had a good Christmas, I hope the new year is good to you and yours.
That cultist mace does fit well. I like this kit, but will probably skip it, since I don't really need them. I may well get some of the peasant levy though. They look nice too.
Thanks for the comment. There are so many kits out there at the moment. You have to chose which ones are for you, thats one of the main reasons for my videos.
This is a good palette cleanser of just good painting that pops and shows of the mini!!
Thankyou thats very kind of you to say. My painting is very much like me, SIMPLE!
Bit of essay but ... Really love the foreward!! Great bloody point! "Paint miniatures your way" wholeheartedly agree. The video is honest, raw and you showing what you do, love the unabashed approach and is a good reminder to myself to have fun with the hobby and not loose sight of that (which I do struggle with tbh and end up with tons of stuff I start and not finish or get jaded about painting) We are out own worst critics but seriously good video, you did what you set out to do at the start! Hope you do more in future.🍄👾
Thanks mate very much appreciated. Yeah I get what your saying, people do place an awful lot of pressure on themselves when painting miniatures. Especially newer painters. You and I come at it from a different direction in a lot of respects. I paint purely for the enjoyment of painting, the end result has to be good enough. It probably comes from most of my players don't paint, and that I have been painting on and off for 35+ years. You do commission work where the standard is way higher and that feeling of painting for someone else! To be honest I couldn't do that, I would second guess the simplest decision.
Love the papsikals stuff bags of detail, nice paint job as always loving the Dallas model in particular
Yeah they hit the right level of detail and not flooding the figure with too much. Dallas? not sure what you mean, thats Austin!
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 haha it just reminded me of a man named after a state from a film 😉
@@TheCraftyMini Hmm how strange
Well detailed and some lovely paint work
Thanks mate, they are a joy to paint.
Great paint work! I've eyed these on Etsy for a while, they are great sculpts for sure. But the 32mm is just too big for me.
Thanks for the comment. They are lovely miniatures, as are most of papsikels stuff. The scale really doesn't bother me all that much within reason. I can see why it might be a concern for others though, especially in vs games.
I'm almost tempted to kitbash some Slaanesh worshipping Conquistadors themed around the deadly sin of greed What do you think?
Wow that sounds very cool and fitting. If you do it I would love to see the results. Good luck.
@welshminiatureboardgamer356 Thanks, I'll certainly see what I'm able to do I'd also be down to do some Historical themed Chaos kitbashes, any suggestions?
@@ChaseDaOrk3767 Cthulhu like cowboys using the plastic cowboys from Dead mans hand? I often think about some twisted mutated orcs would be cool!
@@welshminiatureboardgamer356 Those ideas sound pretty dope, I can imagine some mutated Orcs would be like the equivalent of an Uruk-hai becoming mutated by the energies of the Warp from Warhammer
@@ChaseDaOrk3767 Yeah thats kind of the feeling I was getting
Thanks for this ONE!
No problem, thanks for watching.
I got two nightstalker ambush starters on amazon for £20 total in jan 2024, not a fan of them on their own, but good for conversions IMHO. Aiming for a Dead Space style humans, perhaps with WGAs Cannon Fodder set
Thanks for the comment. That was an absolute bargain you got yourself. I really didnt like the reapers, more because of the spindly nature than anything. The butchers on the other hand I quite enjoyed. Very cool dead space idea.
There's no such thing as goblins? What a relief!
Let just ask my buddy Jareth! Thanks for the comment.
Thats a great set
As I said above, I love mantic the company and their games. Their models sometimes let them down. These however look amazing, although very fiddly with the reapers.
