The strings are so important in Bruckner and too often drowned out by brass, so it's a blessing to hear them glow through.

The tempo of Celibidache is evidently very slow, almost exaggerated and provocative. Strictly speaking, therefore, it goes too slow, there is no argument. However, the great Celi manages, while taking the orchestra to the extreme (which one understands is difficult to follow) to push the tension to the limit. How can you talk about a genius like that, who carries emotion within you? You can agree or disagree but I like it enormously and it fascinates me like few others.

Yes, but the BEST symphonic ending EVER, EVER, EVER is the Mahler Resurrection. No contest! I have listened to it many, many times and lose it at the end every time! 😭💘

C'est sublime et extraordinairement bien fait, avec une tension qu'on n'a jamais entendue ailleurs, mais, et pour cause, ce n'est pas le tempo de la partition mais celui voulu par Celibidache.

Only few people know that Maestro Celibidache rehearsed for two weeks for this program. His main concern was to balance the sounds of the different orchestra sections. For instance he doubled the woodwinds, 4 flutes, 4 clarinets, 4 oboes, 4 bassoons. But the players who "doubled" were not playing just all the loud sections; Celibidache required continuous attention and asked them to play at different places, according the individual acoustics, sometimes we had to "double" even at piano-sections, in order that Celibidache would get the right sound-balance he achieved.

Oh My. I just heard the last mvmt of the Shosh 5. And now...to hear the end of this stunning orchestral voice. It is divine. A most telling accounting of each orchestral section.

Yes, but in two different universes! Greatness beyond words! Why do they avoid Bruckner and Mahler in the music history classes of our universities? The so called professors are more interested in the intellectual characteristics of a tone row or some complex atonal chord. Musicians vs Intellectuals and Administrators 😢

Truly one of the best endings to any symphony ever written...I would literally go to this symphony live just for the ending. I personally like the performance conducted by Claudio Abbado better though...the sound seems fuller and he is a bit more suave in his movements which add to the grand ending th-cam.com/video/gcBg-tXn0fs/w-d-xo.html

Great! Some of my old colleagues and friends, especially the American David Moltz and the German Wolfgang Gaag on the Horn and even the Swiss J.F.Michel on the Trumpet! Great guys (Jean and Wolfgang from the original German Brass) and truly great musicians... I never like Celli's slow Tempos though... often far too slow and arrogantly pedantic in thought and in his execution and his lack of empathy of the Brass ( that is for the extra strength for the high Brass players... later they in Munich even had to "double" the First Trumpet (Eric supporting Uwe) because of this mistake.... especially after working with the GREAT Eugen Joch🤔um in Bamberg, how could I like this?

The piston trumpet was used in this performance...what a disappointment. It has loud and sharp sound but lack of harmonics and solid tone which is essential to Bruckner's symphonies. Simply playing loud is not the answer.

Bruckner come leggevo dai commenti non ha copiato da nessuno la sinfonia e una spontanea genialità del medesimo autore essendo un religioso se non sbaglio sentiva nelle sue sinfonie quella spiritualità che che ccontrastingueva i geni....
