I had a Peavey 5150 Signature model back in the early 2000's that I eventually sold for a JSX. I always regretted selling the 5150, so about a year ago I sold the JSX for a 6505+ (5150 II). Now, I kinda miss the JSX lol.

I had a 5150 years ago that I eventually replaced with a XXX. At the time a 5150 was around $500 and a XXX was around $400, sometimes less because no one seemed to like them but I always liked the XXX more than the 5150/6505. I think its one of the best amps peavey has ever made.

My very expensive years long journey to find a decent distortion, that i want to play, that can drive an 8 string if need be, came to an abrupt end the other day. One of these puppies was sitting in a pawn shop. It was a badgeless muscle car, and the poor buggers behind the counter were clueless to what gold they had sitting there. When i saw those valves light up light it was 1927, it was a done deal. 5 heads, 20 guitars and 20 odd pedals later. These are the genuine articles / muscle cars of metal. Drop a noise gate into the mix to help push things to their limit, and truly we have magic. Tge need for a tube screamer or boost is circumstantial to pickups.

At the time I didn't have Dyna-Cab on the Axe FX installed, but now I do and the tone includes it and it got me slightly closer to the original album tone. *To achieve the tone, i would recommend quad tracking your guitars tightly and adjust the gain in the preset depending on the pickups in your guitar.

If u turn down the volume on the guitar that will tighten it up…. You hitting it w too much signal…. Turn down a little at a time and you will find “the spot’

Dragon sounds way better over the cobra to my opinion. Funny how many people went on a cobra hunt back during the end of heartache era when it was really the dragon on that album mainly.
