    Terrible technique - you clip both carabiners of your VF kit over the pulley, not one to the bottom, to give you redundancy. Wow.

    • @Supernovacluster
      @Supernovacluster 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 2 of the VF kit are clipped to the 'life line' and then a separate carabiner is holding my weight on the pulley. What do you mean?

    I built a zip line for my kids. Not quite as long span or drop. It never occurred to me people could screw up equipment like that. Ran it for years with zero problems. Built one over water. Kids would drop off into water. Following rider would have to get their pulleys. Our pulleys were much larger.

  • @soukuw9146
    @soukuw9146 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is probably the safest way to solve the problem but could you have lifted yourself up and placed the carabiner on the wire to make it easier to slide? I've never done anything like this so I'm guessing that would be far harder than I'm making it out to be.

    • @beck103187
      @beck103187 ปีที่แล้ว

      towards the end i would-ve tied a prusic knot on the main wire from shoelaces or whatnot and use it as a slide-brake-handle to pull myself along. or even loop it through the pulley to act as a brake.

    • @perzyvalsimmons5946
      @perzyvalsimmons5946 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope the carabiner wasn't the porblem. It was the wrong tandem pulley. Petzl builds two types, the red one with plain bearings, and the grey one for higher speeds with ball bearings. In this case he went to fast, the plain bearings went to hot and got stuck.

    I think it is just the wrong diameter wire rope for that model. I think it's max is 12mm wire and 13mm rope. That model should be able to use on both (unlike the description). This wire looks much thicker.

    Competent climbers regularly service & also pre-saftey inspection to ensure saftey & maintain their own equipment, not relying on others with the "unknown" component. The body can go into "shock" even in a harness. Calmness is your best bet as getting emotional in these situations only helps to disorientate and prevent the brain from functioning efficiently from the blood supply(hot head). Lol, it’s a top of the line Petzl pulley, it’s just not the appropriate pulley for that application, the “tandem speed” model which looks the same but has different bearings would’ve worked better. Still that’s no cheap pulley.

      @@Supernovacluster probable, but the working temperature of an equipment is calculated by an engineer in the design phase. I need to know if with those temperatures the systems like the brakes work, if the ropes expand and lengthen and by how much. Technically everything must be calculated before hanging a person, including if the pulleys and bearings can work at those temperatures. whether the weight of the person affects and how the elasticity of the cable under those conditions. this obviously applies both in winter and in summer. all this is normally done, so for this reason I assume a deliberate and calculated design choice and the system is working correctly
