We need the Federal Govt. to enact legislation that requires companies to maitain digital access to purchases, even when things like music rights etc. expire. Sale of the product to new users may end, but existing users should be allowed access. I understand that publishers won't like that, but it needs to happen in the age of digital rights management.

The console war might be over, but I disagree with @Ilovecoffee83 saying these executives and devs are all friends from an industry perspective. You don't have an executive like Jim Ryan fly all over the world in an effort to thwart the ABK acquisition. Also, from the leaked FTC case we hear Matt Booty saying let's spend Sony out of business and let's not forget this June showcase where Phil made a jab at Sony when he said slimy practices. So, no, they aren't friends think it's best to say it's just business, so they are looked at more as business partners. I also think the right move for Xbox is to build a native Xbox app for other platforms like Nintendo and Sony and let them decide if they want those apps to play Xbox games natively. That way Xbox gamers would be okay with it as it's like having an Xbox console or store on PlayStation. Who knows maybe the project Latitude was a project centered on basically building a native Xbox app that plays Xbox games on PlayStation consoles.

Here's a question with Xbox moving to unify Xbox, PC and Mobile as one could project latitude be work on tailoring the Xbox app to multiplatform like PlayStation and Nintendo. The Xbox app already unifies PC and Mobile so in my opinion Xbox content could be moved to it making it the native Xbox platform moving forward as well as making it a digital platform like Steam. I don't think Xbox gamers would be pissed if other platforms get to play Xbox games through the app.

Preach King, I didn't think of it like this regarding the handheld. One SKU, with the dock letting you get the X power. Hot damn, I was too caught up in two SKUS and letting console guys have a set top box. If they instead do Handheld with a true hybrid by using an eGPU dock. That's perfect. Plus it lets them release a Pro dock later. Gods the handheld' potential for accessory sales, which Xbox thrives on? Shoot...we're in for a treat.

This was nice and shout out to you guys. However, this is still PC gaming and like I said it isn't seamless at some point Everborn will still need to go to the backstage settings to make corrections every now and then that will draw one out of the plug and play experience. Steam did this a few years ago and it didn't work. Here is another thing how do you make this work with some of the big games that are not on Steam, Epic games, Gog, Xbox and many of this known stores. I'm talking of games like Genshin, the Riot games, Tencent games and so on that are just on their site and not in any of these stores. Valorant is playable on PC but not these stores and then there was that game (CROSSFIRE X) that came to Xbox with over 600 million PC players in China. To me I think what Xbox is doing or at least I hope it's what they're doing is building a platform that unites PC, console and mobile as one. This will mean they won't just build a hardware that is open, but they will also partner with the likes of publishers to have their stores in their ecosystem sort of the way they have them grouped in the Xbox app. The play will be to have every existing game under one roof sort of the way you have movies unified under one format be it VHS, DVD or Blu-ray. I switched from Xbox (17years) to PC last year and I build my first rig with a 4080 and 7800x3d and play it still on my 65 oled TV and use it with Playnite so I dont need to sign up only grab my Controller and I got my hole libary 4k 60fps full ray tracing minimum every Game !!! It's a console dreamer pc 😂

I want to pick a nit with something K. Asante said while also dropping confetti on his shoulders for mentioning the HotChips 2020 presentation Xbox's engineers gave. Felt like I was the only person that paid attention to that! Ok, so to nitpick that comment tho, they actually said they expected dram costs to keep declining (albeit slowly) and it was the chip fab process more broadly that had inverted the cost curve. It used to be that shrinking the chips meant more fit on a wafer, so fewer of those are needed and costs come down (plus less heating needs due to power efficiency, less weight->cheaper shipping, smaller units->less packaging costs, etc). Xbox was able to dodge the DRAM issue somewhat using their XVA too. Anyhow, what seemingly happened circa 2017 was they found that wafer costs were becoming more expensive due to the complexity of was being etched into them leading to more novel constraints on the material/silicon. Worse yet, yields fell apart when big chips were shrunk too much, making the prices go back up. This also means the bigger the chips are, and the more tightly packed in things are, means for a given die area the costs go way up. Xbone, One X and Series X all have roughly the same die area for their chips but transistor counts went thru the roof (4.4B->6.6B->15.4B in that ~365mm^2 area). There's all sorts of quantum physics issues that start cropping up around the scales these transistor gates are being made at nowadays, and those have to be combatted more and more in the design process. That added complexity leads to those constraints I noted wrt the silicon wafers and how they are prepared for etching. Xbox's engineers explained this (at least at a cursory level) at HotChips. It's why Series S exists. They knew X wouldn't come down in price notably and that meant casuals couldn't be targeted this gen for that machine. Hence they had to target them via a whole new model (Series S), and since you're now committing to two wholly distinct skus you might as well sell both of em outta the gate instead of waiting. Great chat here on the show btw! Hearing the HotChips thing mentioned got me jazzed, lol.
