This is a brilliantly drawn comic strip by Shirley Hughes. A little girl is tempted by a small bird to fly. She tries different ways but each ends in failure. Then a giant chocolate egg is delivered by the postman. The girl eats some. It is a magic egg and the little girl can finally fly. Mischief follows as she flies out of the house and everywhere, determined never to be caught. But, in the e...

It is very difficult to find information about Gwen Lockyer, who unfortunately died in this bombing, and there are no photos or anything about her career as a physiotherapist to be found anywhere. My great-grandfather was a good acquaintance of Gwen's father, Dr. Cuthberth Lockyer (that was before the war) and after the Nazis brought so much misfortune to the world, the connection to Dr. Lockyer unfortunately no longer exists. All I know is that she is buried in Lambeth and I want to go there next summer.

@@JohnCoxhead I agree with you. Perhaps one last request: Do you have any information about literature on the history of St. Thomas Hospital from its founding until around 1945? I would be very grateful if you could help me in this regard. Thank you very much and have a healthy and happy new year.

Hi, good to hear from you. Chat GPT has just dug this up for me: Foundation (12th Century): St Thomas' Hospital was founded in Southwark, London, in 1215 by the Augustinian monks of the Priory of St Mary Overie. It was originally established to provide care for the poor and sick, and it gradually evolved into a significant medical institution. Reformation Period (16th Century): During the Reformation in the 16th century, St Thomas' was seized by King Henry VIII in 1539. The hospital, along with the adjacent St Thomas' Church, was later granted to the City of London by Edward VI in 1551. Expansion and Renovation (19th Century): St Thomas' Hospital underwent significant expansion and renovation during the 19th century. Florence Nightingale, the pioneering nurse, worked at St Thomas' and established her nursing school here in 1860. This marked a crucial development in the professionalization of nursing. World Wars: St Thomas' played a vital role during both World War I and World War II. The hospital was heavily damaged during the Blitz in World War II, but it continued to function and provide medical care to the injured. National Health Service (NHS) Era (20th Century): After the establishment of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948, St Thomas' became a part of the NHS. It continued to evolve and modernize its facilities to meet the changing healthcare needs of the population. Merger with Guy's Hospital (1993): In 1993, St Thomas' Hospital merged with Guy's Hospital to form the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. This merger aimed to enhance the efficiency and quality of healthcare services provided by both institutions. Contemporary Times: In the 21st century, St Thomas' Hospital has remained a leading medical institution, known for its research, education, and patient care. It is affiliated with King's College London and continues to be an integral part of the healthcare landscape in the United Kingdom.@@gunnibrown6662

Many thanks for the quick response. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the effort and making the information available to me. Now I can search for explicit literature on the individual time periods. Kind regards, Günni @@JohnCoxhead

I often wondered what happened to those that happily worked for the Nazi, when the war was over. I like the Italian passion for not allowing such people to escape justice.

Do you know erich priebke one of the shooters mentioned here has captured in Bariloche Argetine about in 1994? Check the video on "how jounalists caputured a nazi on argentine" it is very sad because many of these nazis survived and went to do atrocities in the world.. Do you know the story of Colonia Dignidad in Chile? A nazi literally found a cult where abused children locked his followers inside the village by brainstorming and abuse and has the support of the chilean goverment
