Coupe Simone What's New
มุมมอง 70110 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've had questions and messages concerning the Coupe Simone build, so hopefully this will answer a few of them! And an official announcement that Coupe Simone is for sale or commission. Who will own this gorgeous piece of automotive art? Some say Jay Leno, some say Billy Gibbons!?? Maybe it will be you... I personally have no idea, but if you do, I can be reached at iconicrods@gmail.com!
Laser Welding Aluminum
มุมมอง 77610 หลายเดือนก่อน
With our new IPG Photonics LightWeld XR laser welder we test .063 thick 3003-H14 sheet with .047 4043 wire in this system. A little play time to adjust some preset programs and we're ready to weld some butt joints. I truly believe this will change the way many industries will fabricate the world. We will be welding a lot of aluminum on Coupe Simone and this is going to save us a lot of time not...
LightWeld Laser - Alien Technology
มุมมอง 67110 หลายเดือนก่อน
We've had a ton of questions from a couple of quick videos I posted on social media so, we decided to answer some of those questions and learn the machines capabilities as you watch along as we test this new technology out! We have just touched on the beginning of the uses, and we are doing it using 18 gauge .050) mild steel. This machine comes with some presets, but we will need to adjust to s...
Ep 3 Coupe Simone
มุมมอง 1.9K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
On Episode 3 we start shaping body panels from .063 3003-H14 aluminum panels. This series of aluminum is the most common for shaping body panels as it works nicely and easy to anneal to make it softer when needed. We start with easier panels and work our way to the more difficult ones. This entire car is full of shape!
Coupe Simone Ep.2 Creating the Wire Form Buck
มุมมอง 4.4Kปีที่แล้ว
As we move on to creating the wire form buck we need to shape each individual station in order to create the 3-dimensional body shape. We use a combination of mild steel materials to fabricate this large wire form.
Ep.1 Chassis Fabrication
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Join us as we start at ground zero and fabricate the huge frame rails into a chassis that will be used on Coupe Simone. And we'll do it without a chassis table or jigs or fixtures. We will cut, weld plasma cut, grind, rinse and repeat until we have a matching set! we will start with patterning and template layouts to show you that it can be done easily with basic tools.

Coupe Simone to be coach built! All hand fabricated starting in 2023
มุมมอง 617ปีที่แล้ว
Originally designed and released in 1996, a mythical and legendary car appeared with a story so believable most people thought was real. And, in a sense it is, in a model. Fifteen hundred 1:24 scale diecast collectors' models were made along with authenticity certificates by the Franklin Mint. The story was told that two immigrant coachbuilders set up shop in Pennsylvania and designed and built...
3D scanning Coupe Simone for body fabrication
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
As we plan and prepare for this incredible build, our friend Rodney Lynch owner of 3DG3 Engineering comes in to scan our diecast model and gives us a brief overview of using a 3D scanner to turn a three-dimensional model into two dimensional patterns from sections to create a skeleton of pieces we will turn into a full-size wire form to fabricate an aluminum body of Coupe Simone the Midnight Gh...
MM Episode 8
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
As we continue the fabrication, metal shaping, bead rolling, tube bending and welding on Mighty Mouse it is slowly starting to come together and look like something. With the LS-7 in place coupled to a TH-400 transmission we can see the room we have now to work with. All done here at Iconic Rod & Custom!
Mighty Mouse Ep 7
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
This time on Episode 7, we'll fabricate reinforcements for the roof panels, metal shape filler panels and english wheel and power hammer to shape some of the pieces needed to close the cab back up. I'll use dimple dies to make a reinforcement stronger, mig-weld and tig weld pieces. We'll also start the hidden roll cage.
Mighty Mouse Ep 6 Putting it back together
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
We start putting it all back together again. Fabrication of the custom cab mounts, patterning the roof panel, then metal shaping with the power hammer, English wheel and bead roller to get it fitting nice. Give us a like, subscribe and follow us along on this build!
Mighty Mouse Episode 5 Split decisions
มุมมอง 2.7Kปีที่แล้ว
On this episode we'll install some of the suspension, fabricate a chassis table to move the project onto to free up the fab table. Well fabricate and install the front crossmember, sqaure everything up once more then set the body on the chassis. Once that's all squared up also, we start cutting to split the cab in two.... or five pieces. The metal work is about to get more entailed and show you...
Mighty Mouse Ep 4
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
In this episode we'll fit the rear cab panel and fabricate the cab corners to flow with the contour of the rear doors. We are doing this using basic hand tools and a mig welder. we will then dress up the part, so it looks like one solid piece.

Cool effort…car looks like you will have about 6 inches of headroom after you get floors and seats in…looks a little oversized in the video. I would guess that it stands about 60 plus inches tall. Would hope I’m wrong and it’s more about plus or minus 54 inches.
Hello, It will sit lower when it is on tires, but you’re very close in measurements! It is not oversized though either.
Fantastic, you have been missed. Looking forward to seeing more. Best wishes from Bob in Wales.
Thank you Bob!
You da man Greg!
Thanks.. but I’m just a guy that likes to make things
Nose right off an International Lone Star. Makes it work, even if it is a ripoff of the russ heintz phantom corsair cord coupe. Crewcab with 8 foot box, is roundabout 170 inch wheelbase. The shortbox crewcab is around 150 inches.
Thanks for your idea, but I’ve built a chassis already and putting a straight eight of the era in it.. I wouldn’t say it a “ripoff” of Heinz Corsair, there not much other than the grill resemblance from that.. there is many different influences like Bugatti, Zephyr etc.. in my opinion
Where does the structural support come from?
There will be a complete inner structure just like a normal car
@@iconicrodcustom2159 do you have videos on that I never see that part from anybody
@@OnlyDrivenOnSundays not yet. We have started that part
Question what kind of material is the round stock in the flat stock if you help me out please is it solid or tubing and is it hot or cold roll thank you very much appreciate it bye
As a Airframe and Power plant mech, i can appreciate fine metal work, and this is some fine work.
just use a straight guide material to weld straight lines. Loved this video.
You guys are ARTISTS !
Thank you
Hi Good day to you all, I have not see any updates on the Simone build What has happened?
Great job What size of round shock did you use for your buck?
1/2 inch tube.. with lots of flat stop both 1/2 and 3/4 inch wide
We need another update on this project!!! Please!!!
Build it on a Lincoln panther platform .,I have wanted this car in my dreams ever since I saw the scale model , Of course I also want the Phantom Corsair I am Joe's Wife and a bigger car nut than my Husband
Hello, unfortunately the Lincoln panther platform is not near the correct wheelbase and to modern the build it on. We have started the body fabrication if you haven't seen the newer videos... This beauty is for commission if intrested!
Hi I have just watched your Ferrari gto build it's inspired me would you consider selling the CAD information for making the Buck. That is the part that I can't get my head around. The videos are brilliant cheers
Thanks for the video's. Very inspiring. Did you get the model made into a CAD file in order to make the patterns? Thanks again.
You're welcome.. more to come soon! Yes, we put the scan in a CAD program t generate each pattern for each station.
By the time I am 90 I'll be painting it.
That sold a long time ago
Did you ever finish the GTO? Thanks
I'm an ex fashion designer. I'd like to design something else. If you want to build a sports car, I can design the body for you, for free. I'm about to sketch it. Then you could sell it (?), or keep it for yourself.
Great Project. English Wheel metalwork is a dying art (salute). Sounds like you're using a Comdenser Mic, maybe a Blue? Anywho... you're getting "plosives". Try backing off the Microphone a little or picking up a Popscreen 😎👍
My Music videos are are never more than 4 minutes long. They normally take at least an hour to film. The Music editing takes 2 hours and the Final Edit is usually about 2 hours. So... Yeah. I get it. Suggestion: Just mount a "Go Pro" Camera somewhere. When you're actually working on that project, hit record. Later, Speed it up and narrate what you guys were doing. A few successful cooking channels do that 😎👍
Was this project put on the backburner or scrapped?
This sold years ago
@@iconicrodcustom2159 that's a shame, never got finished then?
No idea if they finished it
Just Don't understand y you people don't make a stamp out of plates of vaccum when spending all this time. Charging lots of money for the sale of car. I make cars to I vacuum all my sheet metal panels & currently working on a iron stamp plate hydraulic press. Shoot I'm making all this money & sick of the time I spend I may step up the ingenuity up. Plz do the same have more time & money for the people u luv if no ppl the cooking or just being lazy or whatever it is u wish u wanted more time for personal time. Don't tell me this bc been there. My hobby is not my work. My work is my work . I hate I used to work more time to work, not enough time to do what I enjoy of time for myself like home cooking or building my dream home & being lazy. No family here just time to enjoy taking my time. Peace
The "D" in Dodge on the rear left tail brake light needs repainting, otherwise very nice.
Very impressive, kudos to you ans the team for showcasing the process and documenting history. Would love to chat about this on the Sheet Metal Shaping Podcast and highlight whats been completed and whats up next. 600hrs has some stories for sure 👍
Great story and a beautfull car. Very talented cad work as well
Very nice 👌 👍
Making good progress!
Good looking car!
Patience is a virtue when it comes to car building. Nedalone video editjng, filming, running a business, breathing, thinking, maybe having a life😉🙂👍👍

What is the price for this welder ??
Depends on the model 17-32k range.
I'm loving this, great to see such skills in action.
Thank you Bob.
impressive to say the least. Thanks again for rolling those beads for me this morning.
Your welcome
That's incredible. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Great work! If the aluminum skin is to be permanently fixed over steel what kind of coating do you put over the bare steel to prevent corrosion between the two dissimlar metals?
the wire form you see is only for shaping the aluminum panels. It will not be used for the body structure. We'll make inner reinforcement panels from aluminum to support the outer skin. But, self etch and epoxy coatings could be used as well as powder coatings if we did use the steel structure so there is no galvanic corrosion.
@@iconicrodcustom2159 Thank you! I am building a Ferrari 275gtb Spyder replica and about ready to skin the steel door frames in aluminium. I was going to just use 2k epoxy between the two metals but curious if you had an alternative! I put up a video on my channel if you'd like to see it.

Yes, eyeglasses with at least 1070 nm is required and also welding helmet. They come with the machine
Thats a sweet machine!
yes it is!
Robust looking chassis!
it is!
You guys are engineerning artist, I really admire and appreciate what you are doing. I am truly looking forward to your completed project. Like you, I'm also building one, but similarly, it's a slow process. Best wishes on your health, and hopefully your boss' financial fortune turn right around dramatically. Please keep me posted - God bless.
Thank you
You guys are amazing, I salute you. I've always wondered why this car was never built, it's so elegant, yet futeristic. You're all ahead of me, since I'm also building one too😊

This car is a copy of the 'Phantom Corsair' designed by Rusty Heinz built in 1938 on an 810 chassis. The movie was The young in Heart 1938. I love the car -
No, sorry it is not a copy of the phantom
You may know your stuff, but you are boringly s l o w. To me, you talk too much, and repeat too much. You might add narration during editing by reading from a script.
loud!!!!!
Thanks
Seems like those curly-cues from cutting the sheet metal would be super sharp on the edges. Forbidden curly fries.
This is amazing!
Thank you
Great to see the design we penned so many years ago now coming to fruition in the talented hands of Iconic Rod & Custom. It's a work of art just in the metal forming structure you've created from the digital scans.
We are honored to be bringing Simone to life! It’s been an awesome journey from us first discussing the project to where it is today, and we’ve really only just begun… an amazing design like this needs to be brought to life.
