    Good morning, I'm a pancreatitis victim by proxy. I was born with a congenital birth defect known as Pancreatic Divisum and it directly caused acute pancreatic attacks regularly just missing the category of being considered chronic. I was prescribed medical marijuana to manage my discomfort, but not as you may think. Originally back in the 2019.. I was severely injured in a work-related injury that resulted a broken coccyx and dislocated/torn rotator cuff associated with a C-3,4,5 herniation in my neck. All combined after totaling (3) surgeries I was prescribed opioid for pain. Unfortunately, like most people in my situation, opioid options are a terrible way to manage pain due to its addictive desire to increase the potency due to the bodies natural ability to build a tolerance ...resulting in the inability to breath as usual and upto and including death. Personally, I can't take anything P/O or "By Mouth" that is in the narrow category because my stomach rejects it... a nice way of saying 🤮... So my doctor advised a new treatment that is much more easily tolerated. (Enter) Medical Marijuana... It has been a phenomenal way to deal with life lasting pain and helps with sleep mostly as that is its recommended usage for me. Sleep is very important to health and recovery. Around the summer of 2023 I developed a new condition that landed me In NYU for 8 straight days hooked up to IV fluids, IV antibiotics, and IV Dilaudid. It turns out I had my first experience with Acute Idiopathic Pancreatitis. After the inflammation went down on the 8th day... I was sent home in hope of recovery. I continued my life with a new pain for over a year spent and still have tolerable pain from it. I would compare my pain to having 2 fingers pressed in my left side about 6 inches deep...like a running cramp, if you would consider... NYU spent almost a year conducting panel reviews in an attempt to find the roote cause of my Idiopathic situation. They have discovered something I wasn't prepared to hear. The doctors stated that my condition is most likely the result of a congenital birth defect known as Pancreatic Divisum. Through no fault of my own I now have what is typically described as abusive habits with alcohol. It shoukd be noted that I have never been named person who consumes alcohol due to my profession and the need it requires to be sober. Moreover, I do not enjoy the hangover headache for the dehydrating itbcauses the body as I also suffer from random bouts of kidney stones. The medical marijuana truly helps with my overall pain associated with all combined conditions. Still when the marijuana leaves my system after 4 or so hours the pain comes back. I can tolerate it for about 75% of my day but symptoms return quickly without prejudice, or consideration. As of today's date I still have random weekly attacks based on a 1-10 pain scale that equal an (8) on the pain level. I expanded my research to explore surgical options to cancel the pain as marijuana is a woner plant...it makes me very forgetful in this world that requires 100% focus. I was accepted to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fl One of the Nations Top hospils for special conditions. I fall in this special category because Pancreatic Divisum only involves itself with only about 10% of the known medical history of the U.S. 2% if that... of which I fall in is actually affected by painful symptoms of the acute attack. My assigned Dr. presented me with startling news stating that the Marijuana is actually inducing and or directly causing my acute attacks. In disbelief, I have done my research finding that it can be used to calm the pain associated with my condition... I don't understand how but it apparently is an actual study that proves the Dr right. But then... instead I see this video. Now more confused more then ever. Doc.. if you read this pleade reply to me as inwoukd love to become your patient. I'm not positive, but I believe Mayo os wrong. Thanks for reading, Sincerely, Drew

    I was diagnosed with EPI after a low fecal elastase test (72) last year, and I have been on PERT since then. I had been suffering from chronic IBS, diarrhea, weight loss, bloating, abdominal pain, and the PERT (Zenpep) seems to be helping with these symptoms, although I still have trouble maintaining weight and have occasional abdominal pain in the right side of my abdomen, below the rib cage and above the navel. I recently had my elastase retested, and my numbers are now above 400. My question is: was I misdiagnosed due to the poor stool quality of the first test, or can I still have EPI even with elastase numbers in the normal range? I've had multiple CTs, an abdominal ultrasound, PET scans and an MRI. No abnormalities were found. I plan to stay on PERT, but I'd sure like to know the hows and whys of my condition. My PHP was unaware of EPI until my case.

    Salam! I am from Lahore, Pakistan. I have been a patient of chronic pancreatitis for the past 16 years due to pancreatic divisum. Multiple endoscopic procedures like EUS, Gastroscopy, ERCP with sphincterotomy and stenting has been done. My gallbladder is surgically removed through laproscopy in 2017 but still there is no pain relief. Now almost 5 months ago the celiac block was done in PKLI hospital, Lahore. In this duration of 5 months i am feeling better because of pain relief but now my pain started again from last 10 days. I am totally exhausted and frustrated from life due to the constant severe abdominal pain. I am using strong opioids painkillers such as toradol, tramadol, nelbuphine and even morphine but there is no pain relief even for a micro second. I am always screaming and crying due to the pain severity. Sometimes, i thought about suicide because i have no more potential to bear this severe abdominal pain of chronic pancreatitis. Doctors advised me to go for a Whipple Surgery with Total Pancreatectomy but they said there is a lot of death risk and we cannot guarantee you the pain relief even after Whipple Surgery with Total Pancreatectomy due to this i am confused about the Whipple Surgery with Total Pancreatectomy. If you have a complete cure and better/definite treatment for this dreadful disease then please help me. My WhatsApp Num +92332-4779047 Email address : taimoorjutt302@gmail.com

      We're sorry to hear about your son's severe EPI. The appropriate dosage of pancreatic enzymes often depends on both age and weight. It’s crucial to work with a pancreatic specialist who can tailor the treatment to your son's specific needs. • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For a thorough evaluation of your severe EPI and related symptoms, we recommend consulting with a pancreas specialist or a gastroenterologist who specializes in pancreatic conditions. They can help determine the underlying cause of your pain and gastrointestinal issues. To participate in clinical trials, a detailed diagnosis is typically necessary to assess whether you meet the eligibility criteria. You might find our diagnosis toolkit(mission-cure.org/pancreatitis-diagnosis-toolkit/) and diagnosis webinar (th-cam.com/video/1s0xKVDX8qY/w-d-xo.html) helpful as you seek further evaluation.

    Can e.p.i cause dry skin like eczema i have floating oily stools and do local gp test for epi pluss ive realised enzymes over the counter are not strong enough which ones would u recommend?

    • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) can cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies, which may affect your skin and hair, sometimes resulting in conditions like dry skin or eczema. Floating, oily stools are a common symptom of EPI. For testing, it’s best to consult with a specialist rather than relying solely on a general practitioner (GP). They can perform specific tests for EPI, such as a fecal elastase test. Over-the-counter enzymes are often not strong enough. We recommend looking into FDA-approved PERT brands, which you can find on our website: EPI Webpage: mission-cure.org/complications-of-chronic-pancreatitis/exocrine-pancreatic-insufficiency/ PERT Webpage: mission-cure.org/managing-pancreatitis/pancreatic-enzyme-replacement-therapy/ For more detailed information, check out our EPI playlist and our vitamin and mineral deficiency videos: EPI Playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLJXha4Nvx8NJRu03C4kOj3CyoqjvB_Q6u.html&feature=shared Nutrition & Vitamin and Mineral Deficiency Videos: th-cam.com/play/PLJXha4Nvx8NIxUzyrWc8ec0plt44vpMo4.html&feature=shared

      We're sorry to hear that the prescribed pancreatic enzymes are causing you discomfort. It's important to address this with your healthcare provider to ensure you get the right treatment without adverse effects. Here are some points to consider: FDA-Approved PERT: Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT) is FDA-approved and should be prescribed by a healthcare provider, rather than over-the-counter supplements, to ensure proper dosage and effectiveness. Side Effects: PERT can have side effects, and it’s essential to monitor how your body reacts. Discuss any adverse reactions with your doctor to adjust the treatment as needed. EPI Playlist: We have a playlist with videos that provide insights into managing Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) and using PERT effectively. You can find it here: th-cam.com/play/PLJXha4Nvx8NJRu03C4kOj3CyoqjvB_Q6u.html&feature=shared Consult a Specialist: Working with a pancreatic specialist can help you find the right fit for your condition and manage any complications. Stool test must be a formed stool or it will always come back low.

    • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To test for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), it’s best to consult with a doctor. They might recommend a fecal elastase test and possibly a 72-hour fecal fat test. Additionally, blood tests for vitamin deficiencies and imaging studies like CT or MRI scans of the pancreas might be needed. A specialist can help determine if your loose stools are due to EPI or another underlying cause. Sometimes, they may treat it with Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy (PERT) to observe the response and then order a test on a formed stool. Hope this helps!

    Hi doctor do loss of. Normal pancreatic lobulations means auto immune pancreatitis??

    • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Loss of normal pancreatic lobulations isn't specific to autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). This change can also be seen in other conditions affecting the pancreas, including various types of pancreatitis. A definitive diagnosis should be made by your healthcare provider and a pancreas specialist, who will consider your clinical symptoms, lab results, and imaging studies. If you're in the US, we recommend consulting with one of the experts listed in our autoimmune pancreatitis blog. They can provide more personalized advice and help address your health needs and queries. AIP Blog: mission-cure.org/autoimmune-pancreatitis-symptoms-diagnosis-and-treatment/

    Pancreatitis and Covid... there may be indications that the spike protein can cause IGG4 which in turn might have a relation with AIP. Is this true and being researched?

    • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is some research exploring the impact of COVID-19 on various bodily functions, including the pancreas. While there are indications that the virus could affect pancreatic functions, conclusive evidence linking the spike protein specifically to IgG4 production, which is associated with AIP, is still being researched. For a deeper understanding of AIP and its association with IgG4, you may find our video on AIP symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment helpful: mission-cure.org/autoimmune-pancreatitis-symptoms-diagnosis-and-treatment/ Additionally, here are a couple of studies that discuss pancreatic injuries related to COVID-19: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9021704/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7118654/ www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/23/2/864 These resources might provide further information that you can discuss with your healthcare provider.

      @@chetnajaiswal75 I benefitted a lot from fasting. It seems counterintuitive when you are losing weight, but it really helped to restore my gut microbiome. After that I started to gain weight and symptoms like bloating disappeared. Now I fast every time I feel it is necessary. I guess that, because of malfunctioning pancreas, bad bacteria (and bacteria in the wrong place in your gut) get a chance to develop. Despite supplementing pancreatic enzymes. Fasting may restore balance. Consult your doctor to see if this might be an option for you.

    Is osteoporotic bone loss compounded when chronic pancreatitis (EPI), primary hyperparathyroidism, renal insufficiency, and total gastrectomy (secondary to NET) are experienced simultaneously? Do you think these comorbidities are connected despite a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition?

    • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A healthy lifestyle and good nutrition are definitely factors that will positively influence overall health and well-being, but diseases, including Chronic Pancreatitis, have multiple causes. A progressive disease like CP represents an increased risk of EPI, bone disease, and other possible co-morbidities. For more detailed information about the complications associated with chronic pancreatitis, please visit our resource page: mission-cure.org/complications-of-chronic-pancreatitis/ We highly recommend consulting with a pancreas specialist and assembling a multidisciplinary care team to tailor the treatment to your specific needs.

    What if I have tried so many pancreatic porcine enzymes and I have side effects from them and the only options are now OTC pancreatic vegan enzymes ? Also is this normal ( I have severe EPI lab 86 and chronic pancreatitis ) that before diagnosis I did not have runny stools but just constipation won’t enzymes constipate me even more ?

      @MissionCure 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We encourage you to visit our PERT webpage (mission-cure.org/managing-pancreatitis/pancreatic-enzyme-replacement-therapy/ ) to learn more about enzyme therapy options. Currently, there are no FDA-approved vegan enzymes available for treating EPI. It's important to always consult with your healthcare provider or gastroenterologist to explore the most suitable and effective treatment options for your specific condition.

      We're sorry to hear that you’re experiencing stomach pain after taking enzymes. Some patients do report side effects with PERT (Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy). It’s important to work with your doctor to pinpoint the cause of the pain and see if it's related to your PERT therapy. They might suggest trying different digestive enzymes. You can also find more information on PERT dosage and possible side effects on our PERT webpage: mission-cure.org/managing-pancreatitis/pancreatic-enzyme-replacement-therapy/ Hope you feel better soon!

    22:32 has it occured to anyone that possibly because people are following low fat diets that its creating this problem? I thought we were supposed to eat fatty fish and butter on a regular basis? Olive oil and lamb? Isn't that what the Mediterranean diet is? If our gallbladder isn't being used often enough, it seems like it gets clogged, lazy and malfunctions.

    • @MissionCure
      @MissionCure 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your input. Pancreatitis has various causes, including gallstones. As our expert highlights, there's no one-size-fits-all diet recommendation for all pancreatitis patients. Clinical research evidence suggests a positive relationship between fat content and exacerbation of symptoms in some patients. We always recommend patients work with their doctors and dietitians to find protocols that suit their specific needs, which are multifactorial.
