    While the unrestricted age of consent is between 16 and 18 in all U.S. states, the laws have widely varied across the country in the past. In 1880, the ages of consent were set at 10 or 12 in most states, with the exception of Delaware where it was 7. Since Heavenly Father knows your very thoughts and feelings all the time, the Holy Spirit would be with Joseph before he prayed. In the experience with the deceiver he would fight towards the light. It seems what you do. There is not a feeling of wrongness about going forward. This is my understanding. Hope this helps. Many blessings. ab

    • @trusthim3559
      @trusthim3559 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think you are right. I guess sometimes I have a tendency to struggle with trusting myself or the feelings I have. Probably because I am not always as devoted as Joseph was in this moment. I agree that since Joseph was on a genuine quest to discover the truth, the Holy Ghost would definitely be able to influence him as the Holy Ghost can influence anyone in the world. However, I wonder how it works since he would not have had the full fledged 'Gift of the Holy Ghost' quite yet. That would be a later event. I like the direction your thought encourages me to go. It makes me want to devote some more effort to investigating the differences between the influence of the Holy Ghost vs the Gift of the Holy Ghost. You remind me that sometimes when I feel the promptings of the Spirit it is quite a gentle thing, almost imperceptible. Other times, its more powerful. I am working on a theory that maybe the promptings of the Spirit are gaged in a similar way as warnings. For example, if my little daughter carried a glass of milk onto the carpet, I might warn her to avoid a mess. However if she had a fork and was headed to a wall outlet, the warning would be more 'powerful'. Do you think the Spirit works like this? If so, then the prompting for Joseph at that moment would have been truly wonderful and powerful. Considering the importance of what he was doing. I would like your thoughts on this.

    • @alisonbock8527
      @alisonbock8527 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do think The Holy Spirit works that way and an infinite amount of ways based on our need and our worthiness at the time. I have not always been a member of The Church so I perhaps have an understanding of how The Holy Spirit worked with me to lead me there. An interesting process to say the least! But compared to now at a much lower level and for me took so long. It was like it was coming and going. I think this feeling is one of the reasons we love our missionaries because they bring it with them and then it goes.

    Science research reveals, power and money change the brain and causes loss of Humanity and compassion. So, I am suggesting, it would also affect Christian like service. That is why regular study, participation, and interaction with the church is necessary. If not, Testimonies are like silver, with neglect, turn black and difficult to restore. Much Thanks. I just finished reading about Saul and now I am at the part of Solomon's life. I liked what you said about Saul and his visit with the witch. I also thought that even Satan knows God's power, meaning that we lose our power from Heavenly Father when we choose to not follow Him but our own path, so it could have been an educated guess as well. In Saul's case, it seems he lost the power and protection of Heavenly Father and his enemies had power over him. In the Book of Mormon the Lamanites were used to stir them up to remembrance, but sometimes we get to the point where time has run out. So sad, I always dread reading about those who lost their way. So many people suffer when we have unrighteous leaders. The people mourn when the wicked rule.

    • @trusthim3559
      @trusthim3559 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Exactly! Thank you. I have decided that if we glean truths and knowledge from the examples of those who lost their way. If we internalize it, and learn from it; If we choose to better our lives because of the mistakes they made.. Then their lives were of great value, rather than only loss. They can still have a positive impact on the world. That makes me rejoice!

    I've always thought it interesting that in other religions that the Priest or Pastor choose for themselves that they want to be a Priest or a Pastor but in ours God chooses. It seems, sometimes, He chooses the unexpected, just like you spoke of. Also if you want to read a good book about the Smith family, Sister to the Prophet (Catherine) by Kyle Walker, it gives deeper insights into their struggles, which were eye opening to me, it's a very good book. I was inactive for fifteen years. The death of my nonmember father and my desire to have his ordinances done led to my return. This month marks two years regularly attending. I not only have a current temple recommend but I am also working in the temple. I felt completely unworthy to even attend Sacrament meeting at first. Your lesson today brought back something I will never forget. Stake Conference was scheduled soon after my return to full activity. The stake center is a great distance from where I live. An older gentleman who can’t drive or barely walk in my ward couldn’t find a ride with anyone and he called me to ask if I could bring him to conference. I had given him a set of scriptures because he had lost his in a move so he knew me. He talks a lot but doesn’t make sense always..his life circumstances have brought him very low I believe. He takes care of his wife who is blind. The morning of conference there were tornado warnings…I have never seen a sky the color it was that day. I prayed to know if I should go or not. I was afraid to go out in the impending storm. Since my return I had been receiving answers that I knew were from the spirit but that morning ..no answer. I waited as long as I could but decided to go because I was driving someone else. We said a prayer before driving south into the blackest sky I could recall. He talked the entire way. I was concentrating on driving and the rain and I wasn’t listening…what he was saying made no sense to me anyway until he said, “They just don’t get it.” I said,” What don’t they get?” He said, “Ephesians 2:20” …”…and 4:11 and 12 ..they’re good ones too…they just don’t get it.” I was curious what he meant so I remembered those scriptures. I looked them up. They were in Paul’s letter to a congregation in Greece about apostles, prophets, teachers etc. and that Jesus Christ was the cornerstone. I couldn’t understand why the only thing I remembered from tht 45 minute drive were these scriptures. When I realized the significance the next day I was astonished and so full of love and gratitude for this man and the role he played in my answer from Heavenly Father to go out in the storm and be at conference that day. What did I do that day? I raised my hand sustaining the prophet, apostles, stake and local priesthood leaders…the same thing that Paul was telling the congregation in that ancient city of how the Church of Jesus Christ is organized…how it works and Whose church it is. Yes…I needed to be there that day after fifteen long years away. He told me in the most beautiful way that this church you and I are a part of is the very same one He established more than two thousand years ago. As far as that storm I was afraid to drive out in, I also now have a testimony that answers come after trials of faith. Please forgive what a long comment this was..I just had to tell you about it. Thank you for what you’re providing here. I know our Father in Heaven will bless you for your efforts.❤

    Praying for you as you receive guidance for next year's study. Have enjoyed "Heroes and Villains" as another way to enjoy scripture. Many blessings to you and yours. ab
