On Saturday the 25th of May we see 2 of KiwiRail's DC class locomotives hauling freight to and from the ports of Auckland, we also see train 201 The Northern Explorer through Meadowbank
We end the video off with DCs 4853 and 4954 making a lot of smoke out of Meadowbank

On Thursday the 7th of March we followed train 234 from Taumaranui to Hamilton, in tow on 234 was DH 2845 having been freshly overhauled at Hutt workshops in Wellington. seeing a DH on the NIMT south of Te Awamutu is quite a rare sight. Whilst waiting for 234 to depart Hamilton we see train 221 with DH 2822 heading south for overhaul Enjoy!!!!

On Sunday the 25th of February we chased a small portion of Steam Incorporated's Excursion to Whanganui, Leading the train were EMD built DA 1410 and Hillside built JA 1271. On Monday the 20th of November we chase KiwiRail freights 925 and 934 from Christchurch to Studholme and back. On this day the lead loco of 925, DFB 7173, was having engine problems and ended up being left behind at Timaru and trail loco DFB 7241 was turned and lead 925 to Studholme. I think they transferred the freight trains onto the southern line temporarily for the rebuild on the eastern, because thats were he freights usually run on.

I caught the Coal train in Huntly on the 3rd April going to Rotowaro and coming back from then heading back to Mission Bush on the Wednesday with the same combo of DL's .

Solid steel billets. They come in square beams. Some of them will end up at Pacific steel roller mill in Otahuhu.
@@nndorconnetnz Thank you. I've never see3n steel in "cradles" like that before (nor had I read the full description!). Australian steel trains (videos) look different and I've never seen this sort of thing in South Africa, just the coils. Thanks. I'm a bit of a fan of both Oz and NZ railways (as well as South Africa's, where I live).

I watch these Videos and wonder why not more freight is not moved by Kiwi Rall I see so many wagons being moved by rail and all I can see is trucks not on the roads!! It's got to be better for the roads and motors by not having these trucks on the roads??

The South Island appears to run the DXS lite…, all through the for their first 3 decades on the north.. they ran those tonnages single headed..
