COVERING 4 APPLICATION
Final segment from the 2018 SoCal Foundation Course looking at the Covering support skill.
Using a single application format only, presenting the 'pre-drilling' explanations - depth of knowledge is always stressed - better to understand...than just try and remember...

More from SoCal 2018... Looking at the concept of covering as a support skill.
COVERING 2 TELEGRAPHING
มุมมอง 2.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
More from the 2018 SoCal Foundation Course... Strikes being 'telegraphed' or having preceeding movement that might signal their delivery, and therefore rendering them easily defended and countered, is often a strongly avoided state - in reality, not only is this issue mostly redundant in actual application, trying to achieve 'non-telegraphic' status is actually detrimental to effective striking.

Day Four...discussing reactive/defensive factors that apply to one of the five 'support skills' from the foundation model - Covering. The Shock Start
มุมมอง 107K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Taken from a 2018 Foundation Course. The essence of the C2 system/method/concept is to fully identify and develop the most essential and fundamental (core) elements of the various processes used within a fight (combatives)... With this in mind, the focus is always going to be on depth...not breadth - and rather than seek to add more and more 'variety' as as some prefer with a 'tourist' mentalit...
Head-Butt Realities
มุมมอง 46K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Taken from a 2018 Foundation Course, West Covina, California. Within the C2 Foundation Elements tactical model the head-butt is regarded as a secondary impact tool to be used when a more potent primary impact tool is unavailable or unworkable, purely as a means to create an opportunity to engage with such primary tools. Hitting with the head features in many systems and methods, however there a...
The 'Engaged' Start for Striking Drills
มุมมอง 8K6 ปีที่แล้ว
From a 2018 Foundation Course...West Covina, California. Any drill can have value added to it by introducing more dynamic start-state elements - whenever someone is 'ready' and pre-positioned in some optimal fashion, then this immediately is going to conflict with any actual-usage scenario. I look for simple additions that can be implemented very easily, with almost zero reset logistics, that '...
Inner Offline 'Hammer-Fist' Strike Explained
มุมมอง 34K6 ปีที่แล้ว
From a 2018 Foundation Course. The hammer-fist IS a great striking tool...sometimes! Unfortunately, used 'anytime' or 'everytime' it is OFTEN a poor choice, with much more potent and effective options available. To make matters worse...it tends to be executed badly - even by those who utilise it as their 'main-artillery' go-to strike...who you might expect to have a little technical proficiency...

    I have a question about dealing with pain. Is there any mental technique that you can apply when you're hurt in a fight? For example saying stuff like "don't give up, fight!" to yourself is helpful? Is there any way of ignoring pain? Maybe focusing on winning the fight and not on the pain itself?

    • @martind2218
      @martind2218 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that your focus should be in general on knocking his face in and not much else. Regarding pain I remind myself that I'm going to loose if I start getting all defensive. I also expect the first few punches to feel like I've been hit with a hammer and its truly horrible, but after that because I'm so scared the adrenaline kicks in and I don't feel much pain. To quote mick on being defensive "Nobody wins a football match by defending". So I'd say that if you are getting defensive because of pain, remind yourself that unless you are attacking you are going to loose. So for me its fear that drives me, I'm going to soon be in a lot more pain if I don't ignore the current pain and smash his face in. Also if I'm in a fight it's a pretty safe bet that I'm going to end up bashed up, so with knowing that in advance at least I'm a bit prepared for it. Hope that helps.

I saw in another video of yours that you are not a fan of clinching when in close range. why is that? Thank you for your work! Respect!

  • @arumatai
    @arumatai 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    exactly. it's not about "oh he knows whats coming" it's about no wasted motion. loading up is not wasted. its necessary for power. and if your shots are power shots your opponent starts reacting with defense (his body or mind say: i don't wanna be hit by THAT) instead of attacking or countering.

    Used to use a similar technique as a bouncer way back in the day. Worked perfectly against the "drunk haymaker". Guarding arm blocked the swing (can't really call it a punch) and the other arm/hand pressed out against the perp's head/neck (preferably with thumb jammed up under the jaw). Guarding arm wrapped up the perp's arm after the swing and the thumb under the jaw made guiding the idiot out of the club pretty easy.

    I was lucky enough to train with Mick when he ran some classes in London getting on for 10 years ago. We had 8 hours of total training time with him and I learned more about how to have a fight in those sessions than I did from some years spent in other systems. If you are serious about self protection and ever get a chance to train with him, grab it. He has been there and done it all and can explain it and teach it - rare combo in a sea of BS tacti-cool, mall ninja idiots out there.

      Someone tall keeps distance in a fight, on the street i assume? Make a step back. If he does'nt follow you, you would'nt have a fight in the first place, wich is the sensible thing to do. If he follows you, you step forward and be in your range then...
