A Genetically Engineered Plant for Indicating Soil Health
The iGEM Team at BYU are engineering a common weed, Arabidopsis Thaliana or Thale cress, to change the color of its leaves as soil nutrient quantity changes. Often. plants communicate their stress through leaf color. However, this process is often too slow for a farmer to be able to react. This plant will quickly change the color of its leaves from green to red as nitrates in the soil rise or fall. We interviewed Chad Hyer and Miles Anderson about the project and they share their testimonies of God's Hand in the project.

The Purpose of Volunteering | 99+1
มุมมอง 21314 วันที่ผ่านมา
Israel Aleman, a Cell Biology student, volunteers at the Hope Clinic in Midvale, UT. Originally meant to check a box on his medical school applications, he learns that volunteering can and should be so much more than that. After repeatedly seeing patients with H Pylori infections, he took his question to the Gonda Lab in an effort to help the underserved one at a time in an incredibly important...
Clearing the Air: Measuring Health Hazards for Nepal’s Brick Kiln Workers
มุมมอง 4321 วันที่ผ่านมา
Brick manufacturing is a large global industry, employing approximately 25 million workers. In the process of making bricks, workers are exposed to air pollutants and silica-containing dust that can damage their lungs and cause other serious health effects. In addition, many brick workers live on-site at brick kilns in poorly ventilated housing. Many of these workers are obliged to cook with hi...

Faith & Science | Bacteria & Soil Salinity
มุมมอง 913 หลายเดือนก่อน
Soil salinity affects millions of farmers worldwide limiting their crop yields. Many of these farmers live on the margin in developing countries. As the climate changes, the situation is worsening. Three BYU students-Michael Davis, Fritz-Carl Morlant, and Tucker Bateman-teamed up to study how bacteria can solve the problem. As a result, they started Halio, a bacterial solution that is either co...

Hi BYU Life Sciences. I would like to contact you in regards to something you published. I'm wondering why you chose the name "wandering dude" for a plant, which sounds very silly like a child thought it up. I'm wondering why you didn't think of making a better common name for the species? Even Wandering Jewel would have been a better change that what you made.

How do you teach Science at BYU? You yourself say in this video "There's an experiment that's been going on for eternities" which means Infinite or unending time. Which means the earth is older than 6,000 or 10,000 years old
