The idea for a hag that literally steals beauty from things has been now added to my fey city campaign... stop in the story... part of campaign..... whatever thank you!

You see an annoyed washerwoman cross her arms and stare meaningfully at a table housing a high-stakes card game where one man in particular has pulled before him her husband's weekly wage perhaps better spent on the rent. "Luka, why don't you fold now and I'll call it a draw. You'd best be getting on and I might try my luck with these newcomers..." All but three of the dozen men take their cue to stop losing money and make room at the table for the next challengers...

Actually Oni's isn't always evil Enma the king of Jikoku (Hell) Has Oni's and uses them to punish the evil people in hell. There are 2 Oni's in Jikoku who gard the gates to Jikoku. One with an Ox head and the other with a horse head? Or was i pigs head? Sorry i forgot? Lol And actually it's Usually Red Oni's are the evil ones and the Blue ones Well let's say they are not evil. They are the ones most likely to befriend a human insted of eating them. However Oni's as fey? Maybe that can work? But is they are considered Ogers but not really demons the first Oni was a a monk name Shuten-Doji "Technically" Enma created the first Oni. The Monk was very Malicious and loved pulling pranks sometimes very dangerous pranks. One day he put on an Oni mask and found he couldn't take it off and people mocked him for that and then he ran away and the mask became apart of him. And his heart gotten more dark and he became the King of the Oni's. And terrorized Kyoto. You can make a cursed Oni mask one that can't be taken off and it turns you into an Oni. I made that for my game. Unfortunately i play with a lot of my Japanese friends so they know what is up with the mask and no one won't go near it lol Btw did you know yhere is Japanese Vampires? They're called Kyuketsuki (Que-kay-sue-key) but they are more dangerous then Vampires while yes some does drink blood but there are some who drinks the life force out of you. And that person loses energy, gets weaker, looks pale and emaciated and starts wasting away until they die and nothing is left but a rotted corps 😊 And best part of that is they leave no marks they can draw the life force out of your mouth and nose. 😊 basically they steal Ki

Yokai is a catch all term yes. However if you want to talk about the fey. Then that would be Yosei which translates to Faerie. What japanese creature are Yosei? Kitsune, Kimonomimi (people with animal ears and tail) Bake Neko (Cat/ cat girl/ cat boy with 2 tails). Ledgens say when a cat reaches 100 years old it becomes a Bake neko. Depending on how it was treated determines if it Malicious or benevolent. Treat the cat good and show them a lot of love they will protect you and your family and bring good luck to your home and business. You see them in asian stores Think right paw up means prosperity for your business, Left paw up means luck and protection for your home. Komainu (japanese Lion dog) Always comes in twos Boy dog protects your home from the outside, Girl dog protect the home feom the inside. Tengu, Jijurogumo, (Drider) Yamauba (japanese mountain Hag) TofuKozo, Kirin, Kupa, Kodama (japanese Dryad) Ningyo (japanese memaid) Ninjin: the more malicious mermaid that has gold scales) Kojien (non malicious mermaids that are very beautiful with the top half of a woman and bottom half of a koi fish both come with very shiny scales) It is also said if you eat a ninjin you become immortal. There is more but if you want to creat your own Japanese themed Yosei go ahead. Besides Shinto is based on Nature spirits. So it shouldn't be hard to creat your own and make it sound realistic just be sure to give it a Japanese name. It's not that hard to do. Look up Hiragana and Katakana and creat a name?

As a DM, this really helps with keeping track of minute to minute craziness.

Have you ever wondered what the scariest thing in the world is? Plenty of people have pondered that question before. None of them do the answer justice. They cite disaster, disease, deformity, decay, the poor speak of debts that mount with every day, the believers preach about demons hiding behind every corner, the leaders fear the doubt of those they rule over. Some of these answers are more valid than others, but, in the end, none of them quite match up, and I think I know why. See, when asked what the scariest thing is, your mind would go to what you fear most, would it not? But you are not everyone. Those who have never known disease in their life would hardly know the horrors it could bring. Those who never had to huddle around a campfire during a harsh snowstorm, praying to whatever listened that the flame would keep burning never truly understand just how disastrous the turning of nature’s fickle whims could be. The rich man who’s lived lavishly since birth would not comprehend the fear of the beggar on the street, nor would the man who never bore the title of ruler know a leader’s horror at the thought of their subjects turning against them. The scariest thing in the world, then, must be a universal experience - something that is known even by one who knows truly nothing. It must lie somewhere within human nature itself, perhaps even in plain sight, but gone unnoticed. Forgotten, even. Ask what kind of man is scariest, and for each answer you get you will have one that contradicts it. A smart man, and a fool. A man acting out of compassion, and one acting out of malice. A man with nothing left to lose, and a man on the brink of losing everything. With such a wide range of responses, how is one to find the one true answer? There is nowhere to go from here. Except the answer lies not in the responses themselves, but in what stands behind them. Except both the genius and the idiot, the benevolent and the malevolent, all have one thing in common, and that is that they are being compared at the peak of their strength. Except there is one thing, one single part of what makes us human, wielded with a blade, as a blade, that is more terrifying than anything in the world, and one who is strongest in that part of themself can strike fear in the heart of every being that has ever lived. Who, above all others, must be respected, must be appeased, and, most of all, must never, ever be crossed if you wish to live a long and happy life? I’ll give you the answer, counterintuitive as it may be, because the most terrifying human of all is not found within the scholars, nor the craftsmen, nor the soldiers, rulers, or poets. The human wielding the greatest conviction of all, you see, is nothing more than a child. A very, very angry child. Fits all the criteria, doesn’t it? All of us were children, at some point, and though the mind may forget, the brain remembers the flame that burned within us when we thought we were wronged. Many lose that conviction as they grow old, but the few that do not go on to shape the borders of tomorrow’s maps. And when you take a child who, their entire life, had been told to treat others the way they wish to be treated - a child smart enough to understand the sentiment goes both ways - and you rid them of their home and family, of the only people that they cared for, of the only things that gave their life meaning? What you have on your hands, my friend, is a really, really big problem.

Y'know what I despise about large crowds? The group devalues itself. The dots become smaller as the lines become thicker, until all that is left is an amorphous shape with no real meaning. When you create something, you are proud, yet when you create many somethings, you start to forfeit your memories of the ones you don't gravitate towards, choosing teacher's pets and neglecting the rest, leaving them to rot like pests. You have made yourself my example.

Makes sense. To be honest, though, constraining myself even to the a perfect system would still be being constrained to a system. Already too many systems... filters to the experience.

i like this format, even as a DM. Less granular for me, though. I don’t need a total log of each round, etc.I play OSR games, so combat is simpler.

Well from what i know. When it is time for the Hag to take the child with her she only has 3 day's? 1 week? It's one of theos if she can't take the child the don't become hags. But instead of them not becoming a hag we can say they do but they don't suffer the physical effects other then skin color and don't have to be evil at all. The only problem i see with this is most likely no one will know if the child is a hag to begin with not even the child. However if they do find out then yes something can be done about it.

In Japanese Mythology we have something like that. They are called Bakeneko Depending how they are raised depends how they turn out. If there is a lot of anger, hate and rage, if there is a lot of abuse including the cat it will become Yokai. If you treat the cat good and show it love and give it a good and safe home with good vibes it become a Yosei. Bakeneko are regular cats at the age of 100 they will grow 2 tails becoming Bakeneko. If the cat was treated very well and gave them a good home they will bring tou luck and prosperity to you and your home. They will also protect you ,your family and home. They can go from regular house cat to anthropomorphic cat to cat girl/boy they are Yosei. Yosei is littlerally Japanese Faeries Bakeneko, Kitsune, Tengu, Kapa, Kijimuna, and Yuki Onna are some examples of fey in japanese Mythology. And they are not to different from the European fey just as powerful, just as unpredictable, just as dangerous. Treat a bakeneko badly they may kill you ro do something to get revenge. Kimonomimi's basically humanoids with animal ears and tails are also Yosei.

Im currently preparing to run a game that involves frequently traveling in and out of the fey wild. I think for a short feywild adventure it is easly to just have some fey be weird and call it a day but for my game I want to have a more concrete big picture to tie things together over a long period if time. Because of this I started to look around and find resources that could help me figure out how to run fey in a way that is cohesive but unique from the normal material plane and then I found your channel. Thank you so much, I am going to binge most of your videos and I am sure they will be a great asset to help me achieve what I am aiming for.

What's the program?

Write down information that your character would definitely remember. Dont need write information that your character would reasonably forget. Write down the items and effects you received, its now your responsibility about its existence. You cant forget out a sword into thin air. And thats it.

A small trick for tracking monster hp is to add damage instead of constantly subtracting from a new total. Once the damage gets close to the max hp, tell the players it's looking rough. Once enough damage is dealt, end the encounter. There's nothing worse than wasting a full round just for someone to hit that last 1hp left on the monster

I use a check mark for questions or to dos. I use an arrow for travel. An ! For important information.

I looooooove this method! I used your information as a base and created my own "session notes" template in my notion journal! I can't wait to try it out with my upcoming sessions; this sounds like exactly the sort of notetaking formula I needed. It seems lightweight enough to actually be managable as a GM but also powerful enough to do most of the heavy lifting for my sessions. Even the moon turns its back on you as the finest sliver of a waning crescent peeks through the heavens to light your way. The door lay ahead, battered and gouged by something not human...

This feels as condensed as the original bullet journal method that is designed to be fast and to use symbols to make sense of what is going on, but tailored to rpg sessions. Amazing work, I will try to use this the next time I'm playing!

To tell you the truth while the added description sounds nice, I've found in some games it can leave room for misinterpretation and be unnecessarily verbose. By giving people room to interpret things as they want to, sometimes they miss the point, and by taking many words to say what a few would accomplish, you run the risk of boring the people at your table regardless of how flowery your writing is. I think there's a middle ground though. You can be terse and evocative at the same time- that's basically what poetry is.

OMG. This is like taking corporate meeting minutes. Only as a DM running the game, I don't have time to also being a minute taker. I like the principle of +, -, ? but the rest is way too in depth.

The amazing power of the VTT. What happened in combat? Scroll up! What turn is it, and what's the initiative order? Check the combat tracker. (Of course, you're still playing virtually, which sucks compared to in-person, but hey, you take what you can get). Personally, I live and breath Legendkeeper. It's free, it's Wiki-style and super easy to link stuff. Since the VTT handles gear, loot and combat, all I need from my notes is the story beats and player shenanigans. Dot points at the end of my session notes is usually enough :) Or even just ticks next to the story note beats that went as planned!
