Can it downgrade to windows 7?

Do you know how to repair the screen for this laptop and how much it would cost? Mine just broke and only shows part of the screen. Don’t wanna overpay to get it fixed so I wanna know a fair ball park price.

I had the Aptiva S64 (S for Stealth) now i'm a Computer Scientist and a legendary one. The power button is on the Centronics card internally for those who only have the tower also there is a bus jumper inside for a quick free upgrade from 166mhz to 200mhz or something

I wish manufacturers would revisit this form factor now that we have ultra low power passively-cooled mobile processors that is actually usable (even ARM processors)! I would really love to have a normal working laptop but still be able to detach the display and use it while traveling :)

I remember this laptop that's running a home premium version of Windows Vista back in 2008 when I was a little kid. Back in 2009, I was playing on the Acer Aspire 5920 while my mom uses a different model of an Acer Aspire laptop. In early of January to February of 2010, me and my mom played on this laptop. In 2011 the laptop was resetted due to the hard drive crashing. I still have this laptop running on a home premium Windows Vista while the Acer Aspire 4520 has a damages hard drive and has no operating system as now of 2025.

I'm now still using this laptop, nvs3100 model with those rear vents. Upgrades: i5 520m to i7 640m maxed, blew dust off the CPU fan and new thermal paste (which is one of the best thing I could do to this laptop, temp dropped significantly) Ram: 4gb to 8gb maxed, a must for windows 10 x64. Hdd 320gb to 1tb Ssd Bios upgraded to 1.52 version Swapped Realtek 8191 WiFi to intel 6300 due to BSOD issues, ALL of BSOD was due to the WiFi card irrespective of the system running. Windows 7 + Windows 10 Changing CPU power level in Windows power settings won't work. Has to be done in the bios settings. Now it's working at 2.9ghz to 3.2ghz all the time. The Screen is a let down, but I'm using a second monitor.

My Dell Studio XPS 1640 laptop also has a slot-loading optical disc drive. It's also the standard, low-end option, even on the expensive mobile workstations such as the Dell Precision M6800.

I now have the Covet Edition of this. It was sold untested and I took a gamble on it as so far I haven't had a laptop that didn't work. This, however, didn't work. It immediately throws up a RAM error upon booting it and I've tried a bunch of different sticks and slot combos, so must be a motherboard issue. Beautiful machine though, Burnt Orange case and a Gorilla glass screen. It even has some design features that I prefer over my favorite laptop of all time and daily driver, the M6800.

Wish i would have known this coil whine thing before, i bought 2 different used psu for a dell pc on ebay and both of them had coil whine 😢 30 bucks each so 60 total and after that i found dell web site sells them brand New for 60 😅 well i learned the Hard way

Did you have any issues with the video drivers? I keep trying to install GeForce drivers from the Dell website but getting an error that says “The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware”.

I have one from 2006 and put W7 on it long ago. It was quiet, OK for Word and Excel but too slow to run Lightroom 4 and 5, so I got newer workstations for that. But I will put Kubuntu on an SSD in the old XW 4400, add a graphics card and some of my old HDs to it and use it to play movies, copied from my DVD collection. I expect a maximal resolution of 1920 x 1080 but its OK. (For music and slide shows, I have some less energy hungry Futro 920. And I don't do games.) //The old HP is hi quality engineering and its fun tinkering with quality stuff, even if its old.)

Many years ago I tried to fix the coilwhine on a graphics card. I filled all the coils with glue. No luck. coilwhine was still there.

Wanna know a fun fact? When i installed windows 7 and tried to initialise the fingerprint scanner it redirected me to a page that was NOT the fingerprint scanner setup. Looks like the domain it linked to got bought up by someone else!

Found one of these for 10 dollars a few years back at a thrift store. Upgraded the ram to 4 gb and it seems to work fine. Even found the original monitors, keyboard and mouse that went with it. I eventually do plan to upgrade it with modern hardware and software as a secondary PC, but I've been enjoying revisiting Vista and some older programs on it.

Would you recommend buying one now? I am planning to use it for reading, note making, browsing, maybe some light programming. I have a pc for doing major work, but I just need a laptop for doing some stuff when I'm at college.

I had this system. It was top of the line at the time. My only complaint was the adhesives were terrible, so the various rubber pads would come off. I wish I still had it!

thanks for this video, i impusively bought one on ebay lol though, according to the listing (at least on the BIOS screen), mine will come with a nvidia geforce4 4200... which best i can tell also sucks big time, only going up to directx 8 lmao. not like that it matters, i really bought it for playing basic 2D games i remember from my childhood, and for the firewire port i wanna mess around with if i can find appropriate camcorders to use it with. oh, and the one i got also has a floppy drive instead of a DVD drive, which i find to be more useful... assuming i can manage to install XP to this machine in the first place without it being a nightmare lol

First computer in 1997, cost $2000, it did not last very long. We had nothing but problems with it. Next computer was a VPR? We bought this instead of the Alienware. I believe this one was made by Porsche. Also, did not last very long. I had a lot of problems with computers lasting more than 2 years. Grrr

Hi, I used to connect Lenovo Legion BoostStation to my Asus Notebook with thunderbolt 3 port. But I try to connect it to my new Geekom IT12 through USB4 port. The Bootstation cannot be deteced. Any suggestion for me.
