It's been a few months since I've posted a motorhome/camper van video, but with the autumn approaching it appears that there are some deals to be had, particularly with used vehicles. Watch the video to learn more.

The hunt for a Camper Van or Motorhome
มุมมอง 63K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
After being a tent camper for more than 60 years, and with retirement looming, I want to go touring the UK, Ireland and Europe, so either a camper van or motorhome is the way forward. I've already had a quote to have a bespoke camper van built but I also wanted to have a look at what I could get for my money in a motorhome. So I headed down to Highbridge Caravan Centre, in Highbridge Somerset. ...

Having had two motorhomes, then downsized to an Eldiss CV20, when we bought our current campervan a Consort Pace in September, after nearly 3 years of ownership, we only lost £1500 on the CV20. Not bad at all really

Do not buy until you’ve rented first would be my advice. Like you I started looking at the larger motorhomes. It cost a fortune to rent one for a week (25 foot) but only took a few hours to realise it was too big - just couldn’t get parked in places like Weston sea front, Devon and Cornwall in summer, etc etc. it was so frustrating! You’d drive somewhere - and simply couldn’t get parked unless you were there at the crack of dawn. I did buy a small motorhome first - 19 foot long - but found it still too big. Ended up with a VW with pop top. Sleeps 4 - kids in pop top, us below, 5 seat belts, goes anywhere and parks in any standard space. Do miss the washroom (my ‘non negotiable’ bit!) but otherwise practical and a pleasure to use and drive.

Vans used to have a lot of damp problems due to some of the materials used, and conditions of course.,so much better now as they use composite materials to combat these issues, composites yes are mainly plastics and other non damp attracting materials,so a lot better than older vans, which for me is a major problem combatted.

Sadly private sellers, who paid over the odds are asking crazy money because they have to much tied up in them. Post COVID Cars a have dropped, Caravans have crashed ( and continue to do so) and Motorhomes are starting to fall. All this not helped by greedy Campsite owners who have shot themselves in the foot ( including the the big Clubs) by introducing inflation busting increases, and now struggle for trade.

TOO MUCH TAX TO BUY TOO MUCH TAX ON RUNNING COST TOO MUCH TAX IF YOU STOP. TOO MUCH TAX ON MY EARNINGS THE PRICE OF THE VAN TAKES IT OVER THE INHERITANCE TAX THRESHOLD IF INCLUDED WITH YOUR AVERAGE HOUSE. 40% TAX ON THE AMOUNT THAT'S OVER! BLOOD FROM A STONE ? IS WHY DEALERS ARE GOING DECLINING 🤔 WHO WANTS TO PAY 32% TAX WHEN YOU INSURE.?

Sure prices have dropped, but they have done so from a grossly over priced position akin to racketeering. What appears to be a good reduction is not so. I agree that it will be better to hold off buying until early 25. By then a proper price correction should have evolved. Do not part with your cash easily and stand firm against the marketing and plain sales deceit that characterises this otherwise excellent industry.

All these nicey, nicey 'We Live to Serve You' people we see on these channels are just 2nd hand car salesmen. They are cleaning you up. They pay minimum trade in and charge maximum trade sale. A 40K 6 year old van is being resold at 55K. The previous owner is not making that profit.

I’ve seen a few of these vlogs of you looking for motor homes over the last 6months,all interesting but like everything time is ticking how many more vans do you need to look at before you buy or like a lot of your generation are afraid to spend what you’ve got. No money in shrouds and the kids will love all that money that you’ve earned when you’ve gone. Get on with it!!👍

If the struggle to decide is so great.....likely it's really too expensive and over his budget. What about running costs? No use spending everything on a van if you can't afford to actually use it and go where you want without worrying about fuel/site costs/other expenses associated with actually travelling about. Sometimes less is more.
