Flow depends on your process, to calculate required flow, you have to go with material and energy balance calculation
Does change in piping diameter change this ? How about number of bends in tube? How about material porosity?
Yes if we change the piping diameter then pressure Drop will change, as per this formula pressure Drop is inversely proportional to pipe diameter, ...................There are a lot of types of pressure Drop in pipe, above pressure Drop Calculation is applicable for pressure Drop in pipe due friction, we need to calculate Pressure Drop for fittings separately ( For valve, bend and other),

It depends on the process, in some cases it will be ok. If you design pump suction line size as per NPSH then in that case it might be ok,

One quick question: I’m currently writing a thesis. In advance, sorry for this long ass reply. Does this calculation only serve as a starting value, before looking into total headloss or is this a valid suggestion? Also If you dont mind: I’m currently trying to figure out the Q (m3/h or s) and V(m/s) which is req to heat up cold water in a counterflow plate exchanger. Known information: - Q and V for «cold side» - all temperatures Is this even possible to figure out without involving manifacturer?
If you have a specific requirement of head loss , then in that case you have to calculate head loss (pressure Drop) after line sizing calculation, if head loss is as per process then it's ok, otherwise you have to change the velocity..........
You need some additional data like , temperature

Why we taken velocity 2.5
Upper limit for velocity is erosion velocity and lower limit is costing for pipe. Generally in industry for cooling water or chilling water ( we take 2.2 or 2.5 m / sec velocity, you can take up to 3.5 m/sec for water. But if we take greater than 3 m/sec then there are chances of vibration or noic in pipe. Also pipe life will get reduced if we use very high velocity to save the costing. So 2.5 is optimum velocity as per Industrial standard
