Our last days in Sweden - Leaving our cabin for good (and struggling)
Emotionally we are not really ready to leave this #winterwonderland yet. But it's hard to argue with certain visa restrictions. In this video I am sharing our last few weeks in our little cabin, trying to cherish the fleeting time before we shift back into our new (old) life in the US. We are not sad about the shift, but it's not going to be as comfy in the beginning...

Surströmming Challenge - Trying Swedens stinky fish with locals

We did it. We tried the stinky fish for the first time. Our kind neighbors invited us to their home to show us how it’s done. But just seeing all these videos on youtube, we were quite nervous, to have it in someone else’s home. I guess that’s the only option, when it’s -27 degrees… :) #surströmming #sweden #swedishculture 0:00 Intro 1:01 The Before 2:05 The Opening 5:01 The Eating 9:41 Other H...

Whale Foot Pump Install & WHY ELECTRIC PUMPS SUCK for #vanlife (my opinion)
I just don't get it. Beds in a van are such a waste of space and time. Long live the humble hammock. Quick and easy to set up. Comfortable. Stuffable and stowable. No problem finding a level spot for the van. No need for blocks and levelers.
Anyone have ideas for draining? What to do with the water for showers?
For showers I would either just do an outlet to the bottom of the van that can be shut if necessary (but then a higher shower pan might be good). Ideally though would be some sort of holding tank of that shower water underneath the van with draining option.
I can’t wait to start doing that . We live in Peoria and never been rock hounding before . Gibbs start getting hot here soon so I’m planning on starting at the end of this year . I know nothing about it
Haha, I was a bit wary of those holes, believe me. Always throwing rocks in there before I come too close. Rock hounding is incredibly fun - you just gotta start somewhere. Roughly know what you're looking for and off you go. But also check if you're on private property, just to be safe. Wishing you lots of fun and finds when you go out there!
well, I watched your first one....five years after you made it. Saw an interview Static did with you.
Yeah…having the car registered on a “friend” is illegal as hell and will get you into serous trouble if your in an accident (no insurance, no taxes paid; the whole burden is put on you, even if the other person is at fault).

"Sleep horizontally?" How does one sleep vertically? 🤷♂️
That's in terms of the vans direction, seen from a planning perspective. vertically meaning along the long side of the vehicle. :)
Nice

As a swede I thought it was a bit cute how careful your were with the thickness of the ice :) You can easily walk on 5 cm. You had like 30cm at least! Great videos!
Yeah in hindsight we were such scaredy-cats! 🙈After our neighbor walked on the ice with us and told us that cars are driving on the ice not far away, we gained some of his confidence. 😄Thank you!

Hi! How did you figure out which pieces you needed starting at 6:10? I am planning on doing this system too, but even though it is so simple, the compression fittings are confusing to me. Thanks for your time!
Hi! Yes, I was very confused too! Started with just going to Homedepot, seeing what kinds of connections there are in the first place, and the terminology. Basically knowing the name/size/material of what you want to connect with the plastic tube (but for faucets most compression fittings are the same), and then just seeing with which connector you can get a bit closer to it. Also just googling what end you want to connect to another end, helped a lot. There’s a lot out there but not everything, so you need some inbetween connectors usually. Installing the foot pump needed much less pieces than with the electrical pump though, so that’s a plus. :) Good luck on the install! 💪We haven’t had a leak/problem with that system at all after 2+ years. 👍
@@lisasomewhere88 Thanks so much!

17 minutes just talking about van beds 😂, so for a full tiny van house idea would last like 1 hour, nice video

Unfortunately not so soon. But once we're financially better off, we'ld love to!

As we say, underbart är kort! I suspect you missed a january/february treat: Semla! And, of course, you won't experience going out just after midnight and the sky it's barely dark-ish. Swedish summer nights are pure magic, hope you'll get to experience it some day!
So short! :) Oh we actually did have one Semla! Very tasty! Didn’t know it’s seasonal haha. But yes, the midnight sun sounds like something we’ll have to come back to for sure! :)
In this vid you had us fighting back the tears. In the last one you had us laughing our heads off. We have seen all your vids now, on both channels, and can say, without reservation, that you have become a full-fledged master film maker, as time has progressed. Your vids are magical. As far as we're concerned, you have the very best channel on TH-cam. And we're not just saying that; it is 100% true.
Oh wow, thank you! What a compliment! 🙏 So sweet of you! 🥰Hope you have a wonderful rest of your winter! Always looking forward to your lovely comments! :) Take care!
@@lisasomewhere88 I agree with MaryPascalFlores. We watch TH-cam on Google TV and it's impossible to post comments on that streaming device, but I put likes on every video. Except for the video where you left Sweden, all of your videos really cheer me up; more than any other on the Internet. And that stinky fish video is the funniest ever!
@@lisasomewhere88 And to think: you create better content than Mr. Beast and the other millionaire channels with a little laptop, a phone, and an what I recall as an inexpensive Sony camera. You're beyond remarkable.
I'm going to miss your stay in Sweden but look forward to your next chapter in the States! Your last 48 hours in Sweden were beautiful, fun, and bittersweet. Jenny USA

Hi Lisa. Yes to hear people vomiting like that make me wonder if there stomach is in their mouth because they start coghing so so fast. About the shark so is it living on such dept so it gather urinacid in the boddy and so strong that it is daedly for most animals. I know there is some people that collects a special seafaul in skinn bags with all ingrediens still there and they put it in deep holes and fill over with dirt and it forments there in sevral month. Yummi.
Yeah, that's a good question... it's all in the mind. And wow.. very interesting about the shark! One of the most unique foods I've ever heard of.
I’m not sure I could of ate it but who knows for sure till you try. Thanks for sharing this experience. Take care.
Combined with potatoes and creme fraiche I feel like you can eat almost anything. :) Take care!
@@lisasomewhere88 I think it’s the smell the would get me.
That was a beautiful route in the beginning. Beautiful sunset. Take care.
The swedish population has historically been fed with herring and porrage. The herring was traditionally salted, but salt was expensive so the step to reduce the salt is short! On the Faroe islands they traditionally dry lamb meat without salt (Skerpikjøt), exposing them selft for the risk of borulism, just beacuse salt traditionally was expensive and could not be produce on the Faroee islands
Mmh.. combining herring with porridge... why is that not a thing? :D So interesting how many different preserving techniques people had to develop back in the days.
i am amazed that people try/eat this, I tried once but there is so much more tastier food around so this ends up very far down on my list
I am amazed that people try/eat disgusting stuff like crayfish/crabs/clams and so on - I tried once but there's so much tastier food around so those ends up very far down on my list.
@@Vinterfrid but I like crab/clam/crayfish
Hi, i think this is not fun at all and it is offending to a very old Swedich formenting method . I go mad seeing clowns playing with a good food because they dont know how to eat it or prepare it, often younger Sweds showing of. You file it and dont eat this fish with guts and finns and all it is rediculess see this.its an old method to preserv the fish in a time there was no refridgerators and modern tecnik , that was a importend food back then, and there are many more disgusting foods and ways to prepair it than Surströmming. If you dont like it let it bee and go away- You should know that there is a dish from Island that is formented Shark that is so toxic that if you dont prepair it right you die. And there is very few that eat it. It stinks so bad that its done far away out in the country and its only a couple of guys that could forment it and even eat it. There is ather similar products around the world that is worse than our Surströmming so stop playing with it and pretend vometing and such crap. Yes it smells but if you dont want it go away there is sure some fatty juicy unhaelthy ribs or staeks to eat .
I agree that wasting a traditional food with so much history for the sake of views can be offending. Which is why we reached out to people who like it and who could show how it's done correctly. But yes, there's more and probably much worse tasting and probably smelling food out there... I heard of the shark, just didn't know it is so dangerous. Interesting!
