Through trial and error I found a way to remove the decorative plaster that a previous owner had used to cover up bad drywall decisions!

I need to decide how to fix up this bathtub. Resurface and new tiles? Tub Surround? Bathfitter? This is a rental property, we are not going for an all out reno. Also ...suggestions for light above tub?

    Thank you! I had a newbie plasterer leave behind clumps of dried plaster on my wall. I was able to follow this video to remove them. It looks like they were never there. Thank you!

    These artex removal videos are very irresponsible - probably just because the makers don’t understand the risk. Whether you call it artex or popcorn finish, you should test it for asbestos before removal. The tests are relatively inexpensive these days - particularly compared to the medical costs to be incurred if you or a family member contract an asbestos related illness! How much is your life worth?!

    Our house has this except its SUPER thick and you can literally see where they just took their fingers and smeared it through the plaster. My roommates and i have been calling it cakewall but I'm not sure if the style has a name

    Makes sense. Sand the tips to expose the stucco for better water absorption and to soften it, then scrape away. How much area do you figure you remove in an hour?

    I’m wondering if using a steam wallpaper stripper might do the job to moisten the artex sufficiently to allow it to be scraped off.

    Just be careful as depending on when it was applied to the wall, it may contain asbestos.

    Don't bother with a damp rag, just use a spray bottle on the mist setting and get it nice and we. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes and it will peel off like soft butter.

      Bro just apply skin coat plaster by hand couple times then sand it with a sander no need to do all that and what they did on vedio, with a skin coat of plaster it Evans it abit making the texture lighter to sand

    Wouldn’t it be easier just to re-drywall the room? I’ve got two bathrooms like this, except it’s very thick, like faux French plaster look....really unsure what to do to it.

  • @clarewalkercjw

    After that first scrape if you cover the old artex with wallpaper paste (it allows the moisture to remain on the wall) and after a while - keep testing a smaill area until its easy, then scrape off. Very messy but if you have floors etc covered and a large bucket to collect the gooey scrapings.

  • @MrPryorMan
    @MrPryorMan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please pay attention and find out if the texture has asbestos in it!!!!!!!!!! Asbestos will cause cancer and will make you very sick.. Never ( PLEASE ) sand on your textured walls especially if it was put on during the 60s to the early 80s.. Have your plaster ( or paint ) checked before doing any sanding, causing the dust to enter your lungs.

    Thank you sooo much for posting this. I have been facing a wall that had a few largish holes from a teenage daughter. While I researched my husband would sneak in and said he could do it himself. Well today he said we need new drywall to make a new wall that covers the other one. I have a tone of joint compound and various forms of tape and patches to remove but I have hope now that I can save my wall.

    • @susanwalker8539
      @susanwalker8539 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      btw, my first husband did the same thing as your previous homeowner did. Started with a really bad job at drywall finish and then made a concoction that he used to cover all the walls. It was our first home and we had it build...all except the second floor which was our job to take finishing the drywall. Thats all we had to do and nope. couldnt be done.

    for all the scraping, I saw somebody actually use a wide putty knife duct taped to a shop vac hose. So all the debris from scraping get instantly sucked up. No mess afterwards! :)
