When there are two humans in the family do you recommend both train?
YES... usually one will take the lead to first introduce behaviors to their dog, and to make sure it is done correctly, then once your dog begins to understand how to do it, then that same person helps others learn how to do it correctly, which also teaches the dog that they can listen to and respond accordingly to all who ask them to do so :)
If we become members will the forms be available online?
YES... as a LIfetime Member you have access to everything, including all the STEP-BY-STEP PROGRAMS, all the CLASSES & COURSES, all of the GAMES & ACTIVITIES, all of the PRINTABLE Charts & Checklists, and unlimited lifetime support too! LEARN MORE here: www.baxterandbella.com/learn-more
Rewarding with treats (kibble) as you do with the correct hand technique and for a few minutes, seems to be aggravating my puppy when we are done because she is still hungry, shes never satisfied it seems and she starts chewing on things she knows shes not allowed to chew on and starts doing things for attention like jumping on the wall next to where we put the food. Also trying to redirect her with toys is not as much fun as getting a treat so it doesnt work very much, she fights for a while until she realizes im out of food and then quits, at that point if i reward with another kibble she starts it all over again lol. Am i supposed to use her food all day long and thats how she gets her meals? I know shes getting enough food for her size but she always wants more... and begs so i want to try and miz up the rewards, but they arent as fun as a treat so she will only work for food. She is 9 weeks, do i just reward with food only so she learns?
Make sure she is getting the right amount by talking with your vet and checking the guidelines on the package. We also use toys, praise, play and other life rewards to pay our dogs for behavior we like. You’ll start to find a balance the more you get into a routine. Don’t forget to give your puppy downtime and manage them using a pen so they can’t jump on the walls etc. Try to find a good chew they like as well because they are teething and will be uncomfortable and possibly restless because of it. We are happy to help you with this all! We have a Basic Training course and you can schedule calls with our trainers.
Thank you for helping us with our new 4 legged children
You are most welcome!
We can't teach them patience if we aren't. It can be extremely frustrating if barking triggers YOU , to teach them to stop. :-) Ask me how I know, lol. Years ago I finally did a little internet research to find out why they bark. Thanks to Cesar Millan I came to understand we are part of their pack and it makes more sense to look at things from the canine mind if we are to figure out these solutions. I enjoyed your video, I am currently looking for some resources for friends who haven't conquered the barking problem & have asked me how I did it. With the alert barking at mailman, I did several things and one of the things I changed about how I approach it was I stopped telling him to shut up , & I looked out the window, calmly said "thank you for telling me, I will handle it" and that connected with him. Because he just wanted to alert me to the potential danger or problem.
Agreed! I love that we can communicate with our dogs and learn to understand one another. It's all about relationship here at BAXTER & Bella.
Super helpful thank you! 💯🎊
Yes! This came right on time. I needed this as my puppy will be introduced to os after next week. Yes 🙌 Thank you, Baxter & Bella 🐩 🐾
You're most welcome!
What? No, why not spend the time teaching them how to bahave around yr house instead of locking them up. Yr creating so much extra work for yrself and the dog.
When they are home alone babies don't have the attention span to not chew things or pee everywhere
We pair management with training. While we are teaching good skills, we manage to prevent unwanted habits from forming. :)
This is such a great video, so helpful, thank you!
You're welcome! We appreciate your feedback.
Love your videos! What’s the rationale for clipping a leash to the underside of the harness rather than on top? With our dogs, we’ve always clipped a leash on TOP of the harness. Does it harm a puppy to clip the leash and handle from the top?
The front clip helps deter pulling. That's all. For Go Sniff walks we often use the back clip as well. Anytime we use a long line we also use the back clip. I like a harness that has multiple options.
My seven month old golden doodle jump on me when I’m sitting down and start nipping at me. I tell her to sit and push her for me and she still nips me. I can’t get her to get down and stay off the couch. What I do next is take her out of the room and put up the gate so she can’t come. she needs a lot of training.
what size is the small portable plastic crate
It is 19"x12"x10
top not video.. every little furry is so completely different than another
Love the snuggle puppy!
Awesome work
Thank you!
this video helps so much! thank you! i have a female mastiff and she’s very protective and will only bark at people from inside the house. she’s an alert barker but i can get her to stop if i offer her a treat
it’s almost like she gets suprised and then barks but it almost looks like she’s scared to, it’s hard to know if she’s trying to protect or if she’s scared
@@breeford3456 that's great that you can redirect her. Watch her body language. Whether she is startled or a bit nervous, we want a nice bounce back as soon as possible. It sounds like she is able to redirect easily which is great. As for training, set up sessions where people walk past your home and she turns away from them rather than engaging in barking. We are happy to coach you through this via our program.
I like the suggestion for play barking. I didn't know what good time intervals work to have them be calm and then resume play or what. Very specific info is helpful thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Gosh! Thank you… bity, naps, patience, leashes, more sleep. I learned so much in this 8 min, thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Any the crate you keep by your side is the same one they sleep in? Also we don’t have big place so no play pin can be in house just crate.

B&B TRAINER RESPONSE:You can do what works for you! If you want a crate that stays in your room for night time and a different crate to use during the day to move around the house, that is fine. I have a new 10 week old pup so I have a smaller plastic crate like the one Amy has that I use to move around the house. Then I have a heavier wire crate in my room for night time. Without a playpen, you may want to use a leash or tether in the house to keep your pup close to you. Please let us know if you have more questions! -Trainer Laura
Thanks for this, really helpful. I am getting a puppy, a second dog, what shall I do with doggie no1 for the first 24 hours? X
Hi! What’s the quickest one can train their puppy?
This depends as every puppy is different and unique. It also depends on what you would like to train your puppy to do. Housetraining depends on the size of your living space - if a puppy lives in a one bedroom studio apartment training happens faster than if you live in a 6000 sq ft home. We are happy to help you achieve your goals no matter what they are.
Some puppy’s listen more to their surroundings. This includes you, so if they play bite you u can try shout their name out but not to harshly but more in a serious tone. If they stop all actions they listened! Right after they stop speak in your playful voice to show how proud you are for them. Repeat the process and they’d be more disciplined. They might need professional training to without telling them too. It worked with mine but since mine has a small bite It doesn’t really hurt. But still every time I shout their name out they stop. This is nice recommended tip to those with listening/more disciplined dogs.
They also make cooling beds for warm weather! Too much time laying on hard surfaces can irritate the skin on bony spots like the elbows, especially for large and/or short hairred dogs so keep an eye out if they lay on hard floors or unpadded crates
The hotspots on my dogs elbows have improved immensely since I got her a fancier bed than mine😂 laughing because her bed is half the size of mine, which is made of cooling gel and memory foam. My bed is made of springs and stuffing hahah.
thanks good to know
What size plastic crate should I get? Puppy will be 8 weeks, adult size will be approx 25 lbs thank you
To begin with, you'll want an 22" plastic crate.
We like you.
We love you.
Thank you!
I have question. I am getting a puppy tomorrow night. What are the benefits of crate training/What is the purpose? I have a puppy pen but not a crate. As my puppy grows up, I will let him have free roam around the house... so should I still crate train him?
Crates teach puppies to hold their bladders. Good job with the exercise pen- your puppy will learn to keep this size of space clean soon, but now that’s a big enough area for them to play in and potty in. The crate is small enough to encourage keeping it clean. The pen will be useful too - just be sure you watch the time and give your puppy frequent potty breaks to keep that space clean.
@@baxterandbella okay thank you!
dear Amie, All the way from Amsterdam, I LOVE all your classes!! Thank you for offering this. I feel the love that you feel for dogs and i love it that you teach us to feel and see the same way. That really keeps me on the right track. The sentence 'put your puppy up for succes' is one we regularly use in our household since this little lady is living with us. It makes our choises easier. Its funny because my mother is a (more then professional) dog trainer and whisperer. She coaches us daily. But still I love to listen to your podcast and watch these youtube videos on top of that. I am very gratefull that our puppy came in this period, where your tips are available. warm regards, maartje
I have a very stubborn dog and very timid/unconfident. He is shy about loud sounds and moving objects such as bicycles or shopping cards but very dominant to my cat. Does this practice work with any breed?
Yes! This is the formula for changing a behavior pattern, no matter the breed, no matter the behavior.
Thank you so much
Love this compilation and the relationship you have with Baxter - as you say, building best friends through love and learning!
Since we can’t put dog down to pee outside, it I go out and use my stroller, what do I do if he has to pee?
Take him potty before you go out and about. We keep our outings short - under an hour. If you need to be out longer bring a pee pad and set it in the back of your car if you have a hatchback or on cement where other dogs likely do not roam.
I'm going to try that!
Such beautiful eyes😍
Such beautiful eyes 😍
Hi I been told the puppy doesn’t need crate so he can sleep in his bed just put his bed under my bed and by keep telling his that is your bed. Iam really confused
We crate train our puppies to help with Housetraining. We make it a positive space and it becomes their safe bedroom-like place where they can relax. As our dogs mature and become house trained, yes they can sleep in beds.
Wish I could find a good trainer where I live.....
Good news! We help clients worldwide. We are an online training company and help you via zoom from your own home!
Sat down to eat breakfast with my whining 12 week old in her playpen just a few feet away (she can see me) and this vid pops up lol...thank you!! It really helped to remind me that it's totally normal and I'm doing OK and to hang in there 😆💪💓🎉
100% Keep up the good work!
How to get you dog fat 🤣
Use their meals! A great way to reward them throughout the day. 🙌🐶
Thanks so much for the tips!! this will help a lot.❤
You're so welcome!

What about barking at things they see or hear on TV or sounds in the house they see? How do I handle this?
This is a type of alert barking as well. If they are already barking, we want to interrupt and redirect them onto a new activity, moving them away from the TV if possible, as quickly as we can. Knowing they will likely bark at things on the TV or sounds they hear in the house, we can also train them to ignore these things or do a different behavior when they hear these things. For example, if I know my dog barks when they hear the door open, I can train them to run to their bed for food rewards when they hear this sound rather than bark. We are happy to coach you through this via a one-on-one session inside our program! Let us know if you'd like help with your dog's barking.
