    • @racer-13
      @racer-13 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I used a pry bar to hold the fan (awkwardly, I must admit) and used a large shifter (adjustable spanner) to undo the nut. The nut on the fan coupling on mine was VERY tight and of course it has a reverse thread, so you need to turn it the opposite way you normally would to open it. You can see this from around the 2 minute mark in the video.

    So I replaced my inner boots a couple of weeks ago for mot and all went back together fine, only thing is I'm now getting a clicking noise on decel at about 25-30mph from the passenger side rear and it's driving me mad 😩 I've checked everything else underneath and have a feeling I've put the cv joint on backwards or something... Is that even possible?

    • @racer-13
      @racer-13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an odd one. I haven't encountered this issue, so I'm not the best person to help! My understanding is that the inner race, the cage and the housing are all directional, so they should only go back together one way. Despite marking all of the parts, I accidentally tried to reassemble one CV with the housing the wrong way around and I just couldn't get it into place (which is when I realised my mistake) - there was no question of it going back together, so I doubt this is your issue. It is possible that the complete joint is on the wrong way round, but if this is the source of the clicking, I would wonder why it only happens at a certain speed range. If you look at 8:04, you'll see that there are grooves/lines (off centre) in the cv housing... these should be closer to the ends of the shaft (sorry, I've explained that very badly, I hope you follow). The only other thing I can think of that might cause a clicking would be excessive wear in any of the parts within the CV.

    • @mikeonabike3708
      @mikeonabike3708 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@racer-13 yeah I have a felling that that's what happened, I think the whole cv is on the wrong way around... 😅 Well as much as I don't want to, I'll have to take it off and inspect it either way, unless it's my diff making a clicking noise, it's the only thing left. I think I get what you mean with the grooves, I'll check that before I take it apart. Should be able to tell then. Thanks for your help!

      Is this the plug on the back of the Alternator Gerard? If so, it's a pain to remove. It was the first time in my life I wished I was left handed! There isn't much length in the lead, so you have to do it entirely by feel. There is a tab you push at the rear of the plug (on one side only) you can see this @6:01. Other than that, you have to keep wiggling the plug to work it loose. I don't envy you, there's no space there. One thing I can't remember is if this plug is accessible from the bottom. It might be worth having a look.

    Having watched an American (Atlantic British) video on just replacing the serpentine belt, your demonstration is precise and to the point and kicks the other WAY into touch. Good man 👍 If just replacing the serpentine belt, can you think of any shortcuts, as you did mention that you stripped too many parts. If you can get to the belt tensioner from underneath, e.g, and pull the new belt over the fan blades somehow. You have a new subscriber 👍

    • @racer-13
      @racer-13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Finbarr. I'm not sure if there is much you can do in the line of a shortcut. At a guess I would say top rad hose off, can cowl out and see if you can access the tensioner through or behind the fan. I reckon it'd be an absolute pain to route the belt with the fan in place though, so I'd just say whip it off and it'll be a much quicker job. That said, an experienced mechanic would know better!

I have just done this for the first time and believe me 2 hours is not my time line, 4 hours to remove, a bit less to replace but time taken to see what comes next is better than replacing broken bits unnecessarily. thanks for the video.

      @@4390752 hiya I never quite worked out what angle it is to remove but it does eventually wiggle through without removing the air ducting. It is difficult and I did get to the point were I was muttering choice words! Make sure you've removed the mounting bracket below and you need to remove the + lead first I found. Refitting the lead is a case of getting the tabs to line up but its all touchy feely with your fingers as you cannot see it.

    Great video. I'm from Clare and have a 2008 3.6 L322 also. been getting 4 fault codes back to back in the last week or two (HDC fault,Engine system fault, Suspension lowering, transmission fault limited gears). Pulled codes from my Foxwell NT520 pro and the only ones of note are "fuel rail/system pressure too high". I've had her for 2yrs and i've always been ahead of the curve in terms of maintenance and she has never let me down. I'm just wondering did you test the alternator yourself or get a garage to do it for you? Might have a go at testing it tomorrow myself just if anything to rule it out. Great step by step video by the way and I'll be using it again when it comes time to change my alternator out.

      Hi Tom, I had a reply written a few weeks ago, but I don’t seem to have posted it. Battery world in Limerick tested my battery and found it to be ok at the time, so they also tested the voltage at idle and found that it wasn’t up to spec. Tested it again myself with a voltmeter just to check that all is good.

      Nice one! I didn’t think you guys got the TDV8s in Oz... I have only ever seen petrol ones there!

    Hi mate I got mine out it did take 3 hours. It did take a bit longer as you missed out the part with the hard piping if you undo the 10mm piping hold down bolt you can access the inside to get to the spring clamps ears! I would recommend replacing them with worm clamps as I did with the thermostat housing a bit easier. Anyway great video again I will have mine rebuilt I'll ask my auto electrician to take some photos of the diodes that fail if you would like to add it to the video? Cheers Byron

    Thanks mate, I've been quoted $3500 au for the same job. The diodes fail in these alternator's hence the battery drain! I will tackle it this week, my auto electrician will rebuild for me he also said he would not recommend replacing with Chinese replacement yes I saw the genuine one just staying for other people. I have already replaced myself troublesome thermostat housing and right hand egr valve, hate those spring clamps! Thanks bud!

      Wow, that is pricey. Shame we’re in the middle of a pandemic, I would fly from Ireland to Oz and do it for you for $3400... I would even throw in the alternator and belt! 😂 In all seriousness, this isn’t the Landrover method and there is a bit of fiddling involved. Best of luck with it!
