    Very interesting, thank you. In my Catholic church, the war in Ukraine is prayed over but not often discussed. The conflict in the Middle East is, however. Suffice it to say that I have a very strong opinion in one direction and my priest is adamant in the opposite direction. I don't begrudge him his views, but I do think his presumption about his own rightness is dragging down the level of worship and creating an atmosphere of intimidation that has made it very difficult for me to stay at my parish. I think there is a great deal of wisdom in not bringing politics into church, since membership in the Body of Christ is first and foremost about personal salvation, not any sort of temporal policy. If we are to truly accept that for now, we see as through a glass darkly, then we must be careful to not become too enamored of our own assumed virtue. That being said, we are also called to action dictated by conscience, so no, it's not easy! We are pushed and pulled every which way in the world by these things and my dearest wish is that my church could once again become a sanctuary where mind and soul take rest.

    Russian Christianity is an oxymoron! Yes Moscow adopted a twisted version of Orthodoxy but it has mainly sold itself to the Tsars when the Tsar in the 15th century offered the Patriarchy estates in Moscow. Literally the Patriarchy sold his freedom of independence to the Tsar for those prized estates, the Patriarch in essence swore his allegiance to support the Tsar despite the issues, this was written down as an agreement between the Tsars and Patriarchs. This is the betrayal of the Russian Orthodox Religion since it exalted Tsar about God! Even today the Russian Patriarch supports an evil and unprovoked war against Ukraine which no true Christian Church would ever support. Most people don’t go to church in Russia and the few that go to the Orthodox Church don’t hear the gospel of Jesus Christ because the liturgy is in an ancient Old Slavonic dialect that people don’t understand.

    The Millenium Monument located in Velekiy Novgorod shown at 2.45 tells the whole story of the conversion of the Keivan Rus. Before the collapse of the USSR I had read an old book written in Soviet times called The Russians and their Church and in it author stated that godless communism was just a short phase in history and the Church would survive. Only Melchisedek and Christ were both king and priest. So, let us keep a clear line between religion and politics. Being a Christian however, we have to be willing to answer any question concerning our faith. This includes questions about moral issues like justification for the invasion of another country. We should be able to express our opinion on this, without actively taking part in political actions that support or hinder our country's political leaders. But let us give our opinion only in answer to questions, let us not advertise it or preach it with the intention of having a political influence.

      @@russianchristianity I am sorry I was not clear. To be honest, that is partly because often it is not easy to understand or evaluate the situation. "It is not that simple" as you say in Russia. It is a delicate balance. Let me give you an example: if I am asked if the invasion of Ukraine is justified, I would say "no". But I would not throw my opinion in Mr. Putin's or anyone else's face. I would not demonstrate in front of the Kremlin. But if I were a church leader, which I am not, I would not want to be seen, wearing my fanciest clothes, next to a leader whose opponents all seem to have strange accidents. A leader whose words are often proven to be lies. Can you picture Christ doing that? Another example: in my country voting is obligatory. We have to go to vote, but one of the options is voting for no one: the neutral vote. I always vote neutral, thus avoiding having a political influence.

    • @lucgryffroy3688
      @lucgryffroy3688 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@russianchristianity I live in Belgium. In theory we have to go to the voting bureau, but we do not have to vote. When voting electronically, as in most bureaus, the neutral vote is, as far as I experienced, the only option for not voting. I never heard of exceptions for religious groups, but I do not think this is a problem for groups like Jehovah's witnesses, as no one is forced to choose for one or another party. If we do not go, we risk fines between 40€ and 80€, up to 200€ if it is not the first time. This is in theory, because these fines are rarely, if ever, implemented. It is different for those who are called to assist in the voting bureau.When not showing up without a valuable reason, one will be offered the choice between paying a fine of 250€, and not being prosecuted, or going to trial and risking a fine of 1600€. However, in the last local elections that were held, we had the right to vote, and no longer had the obligation. This was a first, and I had the impression it was an experiment to see if replacing the obligation with a right, like in most democratic countries, would not destabilize society too much. We will see what the rules will be in the next elections, that are expected to be in 4 of 5 years from now.
