    Thank you, than you, thank you. Finally talking about what Bruce Lee was really all about. I am sick of hearing the flow like water stuff. I remember in the 70's growing up reading martial arts magazine were bruce lee articles with Bruce talking about self analysis of your art. Not to follow blindly the instructor in the front of the class but to study yourself , analyze and research the techniques right for you. I may not have studied JKD but i am still following Bruce Lees belief in self analysis in martial arts training. Its been a fascinating journey so far.

    No need for awkward shots if u just make em anticipate a specific shot at a wrong time then split 2nd later throw the real attack

    All local newspaper at that time said that Wong won the fight. If it was not the truth, why they lied and for what propose? Otherwise, why Bruce Lee's wife lied and for what?

    A worthy addition to the documented aspects of Lee's brief career. The various movies dance around entertainingly, but always leave questions of authenticity. Stories from JKD students still are kept secret.

    I like how you mixed the modern day clinch work(which comes from MMA, Muay Thai, BJJ, and submission grappling) with dirty tactics. Like Icy Mike has said, the dirty stuff is good, but you still need to know how to fight…. And you showed here you do!

    All of those modern styles youre mentioning have older roots. Karate had okinawa te, white crane and so on. Boxing etc is held in high regard by people who get their exposure to martial arts through the media (tv, internet etc). The old schools were created at a time when melee combat was all they had, in countries with thousands of years of history. The samurai did kata, by your logic they wouldnt be effective.

    Excellent video…. What you said about American Football of today vs the 50 and 60 applied to basketball as well. Even 90s basketball was ahead of early 80s basketball and before that. The players of today are better shooter because they learned and practice that more today.. As far MMA it’s the same like you said. Fighters are better today because we learned from the past and fighters evolved. Some say if Bruce lived in JKD would have evolved and look something like Krav Maga maybe. Of course he would have added what we know about BJJ and MMA… He would have kept the useful attacks to eyes and groin and more.. Even Brandon Lee was getting into learning Muay Thai with his JKD after training with his father’s student Dan Insonto..

      @ Yeah, thanks man. I have a video idea or request. What is your opinion on the different factions with the JKD community? You have the original JKD guys that follow the British guy. And than you have the Dan and Aunt students Paul Vunka and JKD unlimited guy, I forgot his name. The JKD guys vs JKD contemporaries who say we need to evolve with the times and study all Martial Arts, including the new stuff of the last 30+ years like MMA, BJJ, and Muay Thai…. Than the original JKD guys that say, no! Keep it simple stay with original JKD.. I’d love to get your thoughts on this says you were very knowledgeable… I know it’s a very controversial topic too. Not sure where you stand! I could guess, but I’m not sure. You do seem to have an open mind though, unlike some of the JKD originals….

    • @joelpollardjkd
      @joelpollardjkd 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @nmr20067 lol you could probably, but in a couple days I am going to post a video about Dan Inosanto where I'll talk about it a little bit. BUT... this is what I'll say about the topic. The 1st thing is this. I've studied Bruce Lee for a while and one fact is that he was ALWAYS evolving his style to make it better. Every month he was added and discarding things from his style AND learning new ideas and techniques to use, so why not do what he did? Isn't that what JKD should be? A process of continuing growth? But you don't find growth if you're literally practice the same moves/concepts over and over again. Growth is obtained by learning and experimenting. Not once did Bruce say that these certain techniques are "the way" and I don't need to practice anything else, he was constantly learning other arts, other principles, other techniques, and seeing how he could use them. The last thing is this, if Bruce were to come back from the dead right now and see ALL the advancements in Martial Arts, all the breakthroughs, and then come to see your still ONLY practicing some stuff he was doing in 1968 and you believed that was all you needed... he probably would slap you lol.

    • @nmr20067
      @nmr20067 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I agree with you…. I think this is what some of the “original JKD” guys get wrong. Not all the technical stuff they’re doing is wrong. It still works. But the mindset they have just sticking to what he did at the time and leaving it there is crazy. That’s ridiculous. Bruce certainly would’ve evolved like everyone else. Again, his son Brandon was getting involved in learning Muay Thai, which was around when Bruce was alive, but not quite as big yet.. You can certainly mix what Bruce did, like the dirty fighting tactics with JKD… Put some eye and groin strikes in with BJJ and other grappling take downs. I think the JKD unlimited guy does that…

    • @joelpollardjkd
      @joelpollardjkd 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @nmr20067 yea, its funny because Bruce Lee NEVER had the mindset of "this is The Way or i only need these techniques and i dont need anything else" and in reality ALL of Bruce's students continued to evolve the art were they felt they could apply it and continued to learn new things, but Ted Wong is the only student that practiced only what Bruce showed him and nothing else. I'm obviously not dissing him, but literally every other student still evolve the art in their own way, as they should, but when I watch footage of Ted Wong, it looks like he's copying Bruce, rather than making it his own. Even a guy like Howard Williams (another Bruce Lee student) still was probably more on the original jkd side but he made the techniques suit him, and he was really really good. Same for Tommy, they both made the techniques there own and weren't just copying Bruce's movements. I think Ted stuck to only what Bruce taught him is because he was not a martial artsist like all the other Bruce Lee students. People like Dan Inosanto, Jesse Glover, James Demile, Joe Lewis etc... all had extensive backgrounds in martial arts before meeting and learning from Bruce. But Ted had not, JKD was his 1st and only art, which is why I think he clung to it so hard and made it like tradition. But yea, like I said earlier, who would Bruce be more proud of, the guy only practicing some stuff Bruce taught in 1968 and that's it, or the other guy continuing to evolve the art, and ultimately make themselves a better Martial Artist.

    I love that you have an opened mind and are opened to all Martial Arts…. All of BJJ is not needed in the street and won’t work. But there are specific moves that you can know and will help. Also, the kids of today grow up watching UFC and emulate the moves which is even more dangerous because they don’t know what they’re doing and can really hurt or kill someone - I.E. holding on to a choke for too long…. Person may not like grappling, but you should know the basics…

    Why is no body picking up on the angular foot work Wong Shun Leung was described using. It gives credence to the Idea William Cheung had that Angular foot work to the blind spot was part of the style and not necessarily taught to everyone? Because a lot of after allegedly listening to an excerpt of a book about Bruce Lees actual fights, say he ever fought. The internet is like a Rolls Royce people use as a flowerpot to grow some random weeds in. Blame yourself for not learning anything from these clips. As for me I'm going to revisit angular attacks in Wing Chun.
