I dont blame the bride, the "content creation" part of the contract probably sounded like the MUA would put MAKEUP related content to her own business page to promote her skills, not act as a videographer/social manager for the whole ceremony. 🙃

So, when I got married, I hired a friend of mine who was a professional artist. We went back-and-forth about the deposit, not arguing about it, but that I never received the link to pay him. He knew I was good for it, but I still kept texting and emailing him, and he did the same. Long story short, deposit form never came through. Week before my wedding, I am calling to make sure all of my ducks are in a row, and he tells me that he can’t do my make up because he never received the deposit that never came to me (this was before the days of Zelle, and Cash app, and PayPal and all that jazz) so he already had another engagement that day. Now, I’m skilled enough to do my own make up, but my bridesmaids told me that I was not permitted to do that, because the wedding day was stressful enough on its own. But my boy got me a Makeup Artist to cover him because of the misunderstanding, and she and I were able to have a consult, go over a theme, do everything, before my wedding. And this was in 72 hours. Not 24, I get it, but if you are going to cancel at the last minute (because there are legit emergencies that can cause a cancellation), as the artist, it’s your responsibility to make sure that this client is still taken care of AT THE TIME, before you even call, even if it’s not by you. Don’t make the client chase you for help when you know they’re in a panic!!!

A client forgoing basic common sense because they REALLY like someone's work and REALLY wanted them, specifically, as their MA isn't a "red flag" on the client's part. It's just basic stupidity and naïvety. A "Red flag" means behavior that is actively toxic or harmful, inappropriate, abusive etc, and actively causes damage to another individual. Let's stop acting like the client's naivety and stupidity is in any way the same- or on the same level- as the MA's inappropriateness, unprofessionalism, general bad business practices, use of God as a cudgel and deflection, threats, etc. The two are NOT the same.

The problem here is people think that having one celebrity client trumps your day to day bread and butter - everyday people. She ruined it for herself. Makeup artists biggest referrals come from word of mouth and other people. She ruined an opportunity where she could have been referred to do other women’s makeup. I would hope it’s a lesson learned for her.

The makeup artist POV was more of an evangelistic rant than an actual apology for her blatant unprofessionalism 🤦🏽‍♀️ really uncalled for in my opinion The bride went a little too overboard with the legal actions threats but she must have been stressed the hell out 😅 Imagine beeing let down by your makeup artist THE ACTUAL DAY of your wedding ! Anyway I'm glad she figured out a solution for her big day
