    chicken-shit DIDN'T replace the Bolt (that came with the kit, the thread-lock bolt at 0:45 second mark) with the new anode plate (1:40 mark). Why? Because the lame designers of this outdirve don't know how to add a cavity in the out drive for the bolt & socket to allow you to slide the bolt up, out of the outdrive. In order to prevent the bolt from coming loose from the socket and fall horizontally back into the lower unit. REQUIRING you to REMOVE the lower unit to retrieve the fallen bolt. Wish I would've had the option to purchase a Yamaha than a crappy mercury that came with the boat from the dealer... Wait till you have to remove the #4 Spark Plug and try .... yes TRY to shoot fogging oil into that cylinder cavity.

      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      The capacity of gear lube for each outboard engine will vary by model. The standard 150hp FourStroke (as shown in this video) has a capacity of 28 oz. Be sure you're fully draining the gearcase and refilling it from the bottom up, as shown in the video. If you have an engine other than the Mercury 150hp FourStroke shown in this video, we recommend referencing the operator's manual for the product you own.

    Hi, great video. I used to live in FL but now southern TN. I plan on keeping my boat in a wet slip, do you have a video or process for people keeping boats in water? I can’t get my engine vertical to drain all the water without it being in the water. The rest of the steps I understand.

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      Engines kept in a wet slip will automatically drain all of the water from the powerhead and cooling system upon shutting off. Water will only remain in the outboard from the waterline down.

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do not recommend using expired oil in an internal combustion engine. Oil that is beyond it's expiration date will not lubricate and protect your engine as well as fresh oil, and it will break down faster during use.

      They sell these suction cup looking things that attached to a hose, I think they are called earmuffs. They go over the water intake and you can run water through the engine and run it without damage.

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      As noted by another member here, freshwater flush muffs of several sizes are available through various marine retailers near you. The attach to the lower unit of the outboard and cover the water intakes, while a hose attaches to the muffs supplying cooling water. Install the muffs, turn the water on and start the engine. Removal is the reverse of those steps.

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mercury outboard engines are self-draining. This means all water from within the engine drains out when the engine is not running and in the trimmed down position. Mercury does not recommend the use of antifreeze in the cooling system of their outboard engines as it could have damaging long-term affects to the cooling system coatings and seals.

    I have no idea how this actually works but I’ve been sitting here pumping and nothing is happening. Any thoughts?

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're attempting to pump the engine oil out using a thread-on pump, you'll need to make sure your pump and dipstick tube are properly threaded into one another as to not allow an air leak. If you do not have a threaded dipstick tube, you'll need to purchase an accessory hose kit that threads onto the pump and gets inserted down the dipstick tube to the bottom of the oil pan.

    • @richardparke6932
      @richardparke6932 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@QuicksilverProducts Oh I'm well aware of how it works. It was tight on the threaded dipstick tube! It seems like the product is having issues internally (I've returned both). For $40-50 I'd expect this thingn to have a motor and pump itself. :) I think it's the diaphragm inside... it's not working properly. Maybe I got 2 of these that were broken, not sure, but from my experience, I would not recommend this. It did not work at all like it was described.

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're sorry to hear that. It seems odd that you would have two defective oil pumps, but we certainly can't say for sure since we've not inspected them. Other things that come mind are the angle of the boat my have shifted the oil in the sump to a point where it is not covering the bottom of the dipstick or the dipstick may be allowing air into it between the top and bottom somehow. Since you don't have either of the pumps any longer you won't be able to check this, but you can submerge the bottom of the pump where it would attach to the dipstick into a bowl of liquid and operate the pump to verify that it pulls the fluid out of the bowl and discharges it. In any event, we're sorry that you've encountered some frustration with our oil pumps and we're glad to hear that you were able to return them to the retailer from which they were purchased.

  • @napjohn88
    @napjohn88 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A few issues to highlight that have happened to me. 1) Use a shop vac to suck the gear lube out from the engine, you can crack the bottle or ruin the hose, do not remove it. 2) When you fill up the lower unit gear lube make sure the engine gear lube cap is open so air can flow, if not open it can shoot out back at you.

    I originally bought a 2.3 gal fluid extractor, but really like the pump you use. Is there something like this that will work for both threaded dipsticks and those without threads (e.g. generator) so I don't have to buy 2 products?

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While our oil drain pump is primarily used for threaded dipstick tubes, there are aftermarket extraction tubes that you can purchase that thread onto the drain pump. One that comes to mind is from Mercury Marine. It features a threaded coupler to attach to the oil drain pump and has 19 inches of .375 O.D. tubing to insert into a non-threaded dipstick tube. The part number on that extraction tube specifically is 859717A2, but there are likely others on the market of various sizes for a wide array of applications.

    For bottom end gear oil change the oil seals on the vent plug and drain plug should be replaced every time - correct? What about the "lock" on the shaft nut, add anti seize to the spline and there is also a large plastic washer/spacer behind the prop up to the lower housing.

    • @QuicksilverProducts
      @QuicksilverProducts 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct - drain and vent seals should be replaced during each service to avoid water intrusion of your gear housing assembly. Locking propeller nuts and the hardware associated can be reused throughout the season, but these components should be inspected each year or every 100 hours of use. During this inspection we also recommend a light coating of 2-4-C grease to the spines of the propeller shaft.

      Outboard engines should never be run dry as water pump impeller failure will occur, followed by engine damage due to overheating. Depending on the model of outboard you have, they either need to have a flushing attachment installed onto the lower unit or a hose hooked up to the outboard flush system. We recommend checking the operator's manual for the product you own to determine how to run the engine when the lower unit is not submerged in water.
