Milwaukee 2953 M18 FUEL Impact Driver Gen 4 | Should You Buy?
MilwaukeeM18 Fuel 1/4" Hex Impact Driver: This tool was released approximately 1 year ago (as of March 2024). Things of note: Impressive Power, Comfort, and Size. I still prefer my M12 Fuel Impact as a daily driver, but this steps it up a notch in performance.

Is It GOOD? | Milwaukee M12 Impact Driver Gen 3
Use gloves to change the blade ✅️
You can't force me to use common sense...
I bought one for pruning stuff in the garden and similar occasional, undemanding jobs - but I've been impressed with what else it will cut around the place. Surely not the fastest, but for a DIY type like me, more than satisfactory.
That's awesome. It's a slick little tool
See for a compact tool its hard to beat the m12 im a weekend warrior no longer working on cars for a living and i have mostly ryobi but id still prolly get the m12 impact when i goes on sale just for the size factor when going to junk yard and such
I think unless you need a router, the m12 line is hard to beat for a homeowner
Friendly tip: dont push so hard when driving in a screw, it goes faster that way.
I don't recall we were. BUT.. you are 100% correct
This thing eats 1.5 and 2" schedule 40 PVC for breakfast and that's what I needed it for.
If i couldn't cut pvc... it would be a child toy
Thank you
What is the model number for the impact driver as there are a lot of 12v fuel impacts
3453-20
I have also felt that the frames on the ryobi drills flex alot. Compare to the Pro brands Bosch, makita ect. Cheaper materials on the body
Maybe different materials. I never noticed until doing side by side.
How about cutting upward? Cutting from bottom first (saw teeth facing up)
Yes... that is accurate.
M12 gen 3 impact is the best battery power tool I think I’ve ever bought. It’s compactness and light weight along with all its features and power is unmatched. The fact that it matches the m18 brushed impact in speed and torque says it all.
I agree with all of that, but in all fairness, it was an older gen m18. Current gen m18 fuel crushes m12.
@ believe me I know, I have both m18 impacts, fuel and brushed. The m18 fuel is a beast and perfect for large scale use. But not surprised at all with the m12 fuel vs m18 brushed comparison.
@jroq101 next step is the m12 installation driver.
And what about the Bosch you had at 2:58?
Any tool used to it’s limit will die sooner, my tools work really hard but I don’t push the limits with them just because it can do a big bolt doesn’t mean it’s a good idea I have Milwaukee Dewalt and Makita stuff for various reasons and they are all good tools obviously some better than others in some situations and jobs that is the reason I have more than one brand.
Completely agree. Have multiple drivers for the same reason. For these large bolt an impact wrench is the way to go
For the average home owner, the Ryobi things are fine
I agree! Gifts for family and friends are usually Ryobi
I use ryobi tools they work just fine for me, but I'm not trying to earn a living with those tools, I'm a professional welder by trade.
I agree, they are plenty for most.
This tool is a god send for us plumbers in new construction, especially when you're working in the ceiling where there's framing, duct work, or whatever the hell else in your way.
If you are an electrician or joiner and have to drill hole with augers then this is not for you. 2 month amd it just runs for a second and cuts out. The older impacts are much better amd the surge, just stay away. The surge will fail in a year.
That's rough, but thanks for sharing. Did you utilize warranty, and how was the process?
Torque test channel shows that having it this small the ring and planetary gears shear teeth and lock it up he had 6 do this in the video he showed it in. That's not acceptable in my book
I already have so many dewalt 20v tools. I really want the m12 drill impact driver combo. Its on sale half off right now. I reall don't "need" it, but i want it lol.
Lol this conversation sounds familiar.
You are comparing 18 v to 12 volts is that reasonable?
You shouldn't buy Ryobi, that's the answer
🤣
So you’re saying it can do it, yes! Since I don’t even plan on ever putting in a 12” lag bolt it nice to know I could someday! But then again I could just get my M18 Fuel if I want to walk back into the garage… bwhahahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha
So you're saying there's a chance!
Which should i keep? I have both new Ryobi PSBCK102K2 Brushless $129.99 Milwaukee 2691-22 brushed for $155
1) Look at the entire product line of each brand not just the impact/drill. There may be something you want down the line that one brand doesn't offer. 2) Whichever one feels better. 3) Reliability isn't a huge concern for homeowners. Don't abuse the tool and it will do just fine, mostly lol. 4) For me, I'm going Milwaukee.. BUT... I'm also purchasing my father-in-law Ryobi for the holidays bc that's all he needs. Handful of uses per year.
@@mfcbuilds i work on my project trucks here and there and some wood work here and there. Just finished making a big work bench but my drill died. Had a cheap one from Oreillys 🤣 Ill probably stick with Ryobi, hopefully it is a good experience for me.
@@noah_loansyou will do just fine with Ryobi. I have NEVER been let down
@@mfcbuilds i actually ended up returning both and getting a Hammerdrill/Impact combo with a “free” M18 Palm Router 🔥 was definitely worth it cause it came with a 2 & 4ah battery and the hammer drill has more value also. $291 out the door after Military discount at Home depot
@noah_loans that's sweet
I had this tool for like five years if not longer and . I neve had a problem. I completed a lot of jobs. And if i'm not mistaken, this is a second generation, and I had a first generation of this tool, and it's still runing strong
Aldi Ryobi guys will hate you saying that
I like the modes in Ryobi. I usully use 1st gear to have more control with small screws, which is what I mostly use.
But how will you consistently strip the screws if you don't use all the power?
@@mfcbuilds I do not want to strip anything. I want to drive with control.
Lol yes I know. Sarcasm
@@mfcbuilds Ah! Got it! Well done, buddy ;-)
M12 for drywall?
Not sure what exactly your asking. Drywall business = drywall screw gun. But for say handy work, sure. It would be perfect. Lightweight and plenty of power.
@mfcbuilds ok ill get a screwgun it's for professional use thx
Full disclaimer, im just an engineering student, and my tools dont go through anywhere near the volume of work as most any tradesman's. Because of that and my large hands, i bought all of my cordless power tools to be compatible with milwaukee m12 batteries. Thats why something like this would make total sense for me. Currently i have a brushless drill/driver, a brushless rotary tool, and a handheld vacuum. With a tool like this and maybe a power sander, id have all the cordless power tools id realistically need for any personal project [my angle grinder is wired]. Id argue this and tools like it are useful the same way a small truck like a ridgeline or santa cruz is. Absolutely not what youd want for hauling lumber or doing tradework, but it fills a very convenient niche for a certain less professional customer who wants more utility than theyd have otherwise
All legit points and I agree. I think the m12 is a great platform. If it wasn't for the router, m12 is probably all I would use.
Hey man, if you get to see this comment I just want to know what you think about the current Home Depot deal on the dewalt set. Impact driver and drill and two batteries with a charger and a case for $299.99 and a free selection of a tool that can be as much as $219.99 meaning if the return works you can get a Dewalt impact and drill for $80. Kind of ridiculous. Also they have a set of batteries for 199 that if you could return the free gift would make them free.
Not exactly how it works. So I found the promo you're referring to. Here's the breakdown. 20V Drill & Impact is on sale for $299 (orig. $329.99) including a FREE tool, like the $219 Jigsaw. The cost of the "free tool" is discounted from each item. Meaning the 20V Drill & Impact combo cost $172.59 and the Jigsaw cost $126.41 Return the "free tool" and you get the combo kit for the $172.59 + tax. It's a great price. Hope this helps.
Brushed vs. brushless
Brushless
not gonna say the blade make the saw but it definitely helps. my black and decker 20v gear is slowly falling apart. winter is come so i got a jacket then a radio now the hammer drill and hex driver kit with the multi tool addon.... on the fence with the sawzall but i think the circ saw seems good. any thoughts?
12v or 18v ? I have not reviewed any of the circ saws yet. However I do own the M18 tracksaw (phenomenal) and I have seen that the new 7-1/4 circ saw is extremely powerful, BUT needs an extreme battery, like the 6.0 Forge.
@mfcbuilds I got the 12V versions... I can't really justify getting in to the 18V lineup
It’s a plumbers saw, it has always been, it was probably designed by Milwaukee for the plumber. I’ve used it everyday since the saw was available, I’ve probably owned 10 of them. Use the other multiple options offered for heavy work. This tool is perfect for what it was designed for, not racing through 2x like a chainsaw. If you use the correct size blade for the material you’re cutting through it won’t flap around and vibrate, after all that’s why they make different lengths. No reason why a home owner wouldn’t appreciate this saw if used accordingly
I agree 100٪ Said these things at the end of the video
You've done remodeling projects on multiple properties. So, you've visited the orange store multiple times. But, you've NEVER heard of the tool brand that is on the SAME aisle, BRIGHT day-glow green, with bits, accoutrement, etc mixed throughout the aisle? I have a hard time believing that.
He is a teenager. Dad is buying the tools, not him lol. But I see your point.
Can you put a wire wheel in it
I don't know, but feel like there is a specific tool for that...
Professional model Hahaha
It says it on the 📦. Must be true. I mean, I did solely use Ryobi when I used to work construction so there's that...
Electrician here! I have used the M18 FUEL version of this for cutting PVC when we do underground. Works great and much easier to use one handed than the full size Sawzall (which we also have on hand). The Hackzall is great for tight spaces and one handed use.
The M18 Hackzall will most likely be my personal choice. Just haven't needed to buy one yet. Hackzall seems like the perfect tool for tradesman.
As a DYI'er, just ordered Ryobi with a 2 amp hour & a 4 amp hour battery, plus a charger on sale for 99. So for me Im good with Ryobi (PS Im also int the Fuel 12 line and love Milwaukee)
If I was just homeowner I might invest in M12 fuel and 18v Ryobi as well.
Which this the bosch 12v-35 version oder older 12v-15?
GXL12V-220B22 However, I am sad to say the impact finally died after about 3 years of continuous use. It will be missed, but not replaced by another Bosch.
None.
LOL, They're not that bad.
Why are ppl concerned ant the drilling power of an IMPACT DRILL. It’s supposed to put screws in shit not make holes lol
Lol ever used a wrench as a hammer.....
I own this exact tool it’s lightweight and performs pretty well, but the plastic tabs that are part of the battery have broken off of two of the batteries, now the batteries constantly vibrate out of contact and I have to keep pushing the battery back in. I do not recommend this tool. I’m replacing it with a Dewalt because I refuse to purchase more Milwaukee batteries that will eventually fail.
Just curious, have you tried getting the replaced with warranty? Curious to know how effective it was.
Well worth it. I had my last set last me just about 9 years with daily use. You get what you pay for.
Agreed. My previous version, non-Fuel, was just given to my father as I only upgraded to review the newer version.
I've used my M-12 tools from finish work to sending home 8" GRK. The smoothness and precision you get time after time. From drop abuse to being thrown in a lake. The M-12 line up can handle a wide variety of jobs.
Agreed
the HP models do not all have the extra contacts, but they may have internal circuitry to make it better.
I get they are trying ro keep the same battery, but eventually it will have to change. But who knows lol
I would personally prioritize comfort for impact drivers. The extra time that it takes the Ryobi to drive a screw is not that big of a factor for me since I am not a pro contractor driving a lot of them every day. Also if I need more power doing lag screws or something that the Ryobi would struggle with I'd go for the Milwaukee. But the Milwaukee feels much thicker in the hand and my opinion and many others have said that it is not as comfortable as the Ryobi in your hand. And then even though in this instance the cost of the tools are similar, we all know that as a platform Milwaukee is much more expensive. I would say if you are a professional contractor then it makes sense to go with Milwaukee because it does perform better and they have a vast tool line up and pack out as well but for the average DIY person I would recommend the Ryobi unless cost is not a factor.
Comfort alone... Ryobi at first... the only negative mark I have is the Ryobi frame feels like it's twisting under heavy load. Other than that Ryobi beats milwaukee in comfort alone.
As soon as I see someone testing Ryobi I go to another video. They hardly ever grease the gears and fail often. I will stick with Bosch Milwaukee and Dewalt. Toss the Ryobi in the nearest garbage can
Lol they're not that bad for what they are intended for. Homeowners with light use
@@mfcbuilds homeowners can invest once in good tools not junk they have to keep replacing
I agree, as I have spoke on in the majority of videos.
What it's obviously for is notching out 2x4s, cutting conduit, cutting pvc.. Its for electricians, it's for plumbers, possibly HVAC, possibly tile guys, possibly drywallers. It's not for demolition or a woodshop. It's small & light bc you're carrying it around all the time & weight matters instead of just leaving it at a jobsite or a shop. You reviewed like it was competing with full size sawzalls. Sure it will do the stuff the big boys do, but slower & more painfully. It's not for that. I use an m18 fuel as my primary pruner on a 10acre well treed property.. Throw a 12" diablo carbide blade on it and it's about 40% the weight of a tophandle chainsaw, cut's maybe 50-60% as fast, no resharpening chains, no smelling like 2stroke exhaust, no mixing 2stroke fuel, no filling chain oil reservoir, don't even need hearing protection. And it's a hell of a lot safer, plus I can hang it from a drill hook on my belt instead of on the ground, saves a lot of energy over the course of a day. I just wanted to know if it might function well in a similar role for my mother in her 70s, but instead you reviewed it in all the ways it wasn't meant to perform, then complained about it obviously being a smaller, lighter & lower power tool... when that's the entire point of it.
Please go to 9:02 in the video...
I reviewed this as a homeowner. My recommendation would be to buy a full recip and an oscillating multitool
Would you recommend it for RV work?
I honestly don't know what that entails. The tool is perfect for pvc and small/thin wall metal pipe
It will eventually let you down. Cheap plastic battery tabs that break off allowing the battery to lose contact.
Este modelo de M12 es mejor que el Dcf809 y Dcf845 DeWalt? En calidad y potencia
M12
It came in a kit with the driver, drill, light and ratchet w/charger and x2 batteries. It's why I have it. The kit was $250 making the tool cheap
That's a sweet deal.
What epoxy do you have to fill the cracks?
Total boat epoxy and black diamond pigment
I’ve been cutting 3/4” - 3” ridgid conduit with wire inside for demo at the refinery I work at for the past 2 weeks using the hacksaw and it performs just as well as my partners zawsaw
That sounds like a perfect use case. Do you think it could completely replace a full recip for the average homeowner?
