Milwaukee 2953 M18 FUEL Impact Driver Gen 4 | Should You Buy?
MilwaukeeM18 Fuel 1/4" Hex Impact Driver: This tool was released approximately 1 year ago (as of March 2024). Things of note: Impressive Power, Comfort, and Size. I still prefer my M12 Fuel Impact as a daily driver, but this steps it up a notch in performance.

Is It GOOD? | Milwaukee M12 Impact Driver Gen 3
It's a Milwaukee that should tell u all the need to know, 👎
🤣 I think they're all to the point where you can just pick a color you like and be fine
The gen-4 keeps stopping on me, sending it off to get it fixed 4 times in less than 6 months. It is junk.
This thing comes in handy all the time. It’s small so it can get into tight places and you can use it with 1 hand. You can cut anything with it from wood to metal or pvc piping
It is definitely impressive for its size
As a plumber I use that saw all the time
Too bad Ryobi with the biggest battery can't beat 60% of its torque specs. 1800 in.lb struggles for 900.
So far, Ryobi One+ tools have met our needs; I've never used the recip for demolition, but it does well enough with 3" (+/-) tree limbs outside. I would definitely consider "better" now (probably Milwaukee; we got a few M12 tools recently), but are sufficiently invested in the One+ line and batteries that switching without a clear need probably doesn't make sense. Thanks for this review though; if the Ryobis ever die (none have in over 15 years of homeowner use), I'll probably bite the bullet and switch to Milwaukee.
This a great saw for service plumbers! I rarely need more power than this and it gets into a lot of tight spots that an 18v cant. And its lighter so its easier to carry around. 12v is the way to in my line of work! Lol
Agreed!
Seems like u got the orbital setting different on both. Ryboi smooth cut on 0, Milwaukee is on 3 faster cut 😂
🤣 it has been previously pointed out lol. I went back and tested. Both tools were showed proportionate differences.
i have had and still have a hackzall m12 non fuel.best thing since sliced bread.i use milwaukee short blades that were designed for it it is the most controllable reciprocating saw on the market here in the u.k. i have lent it to jobsite colleagues and they have said they hate recip. saws apart from my m12 milwaukee because they are uncontrollable. i amainly do heating and plumbing.if you are obsessed with cutting large wood get a chainsaw or dewalt alligator. love your channel, john.
That's awesome input and insight. That you. It's appreciated!
I’d choose the regular base m18 over the m12 fuel any day for a DIY homeowner I’d say the m12 is perfect but for a tradesmen you’re gonna need the m18 just the bottom line.
Agreed
F**k made in Vietnam ryobi.
Those percentages are in comparison to the NON brushless version of the RYOBI JIGSAW not vs. other brands. It still would hold its own against other brands, i just wanted to correct your experiment where it was wrong when i caught it.
Thanks you for correcting the marketing material that I am reading directly from their product box that is in no way meant to mislead consumers lol.
@@mfcbuilds man i just left out of home depot before i watched this video, and spoke to a ryobi woman that had been texting about ryobi days since i left the damn store. We held both boxes in our hands and had a discussion. Where you misinterpreted what you read, which i didnt see you reading anything but the box, isnt my fault buddy. Youve been done with brushed motors so you wouldnt have the conversstion i had anyway because im not an in depth tool guy. But i can read and have a high comprehension level. Great video though i appreciated it. Milwaukee is hella expensive and all my tools are ryobi so anyone that gives us a fair shake, im on their side.
I appreciate that. Ryobi has held their own in almost all testing. The only one I truly cant recommend is their 18v recip. I honestly shook my hands to death. Using that tool any more than a minute wreaks havoc on your hands.
As a garage door residential/ commercial installer, and service tech, sawzalls are a great and quite useful tool. I can see having both full size, and compact. Having the M12 tool collection is a huge plus. For heavy duty commercial work, i used a mix a corded tools and battery operating where feasible.
I was taught (50+ yrs ago) that you should start the saw before you touch the blade to the wood. For any type of saw. Wondering why you don't do that.
Bc in the amazing youtube space, someone would say I'm cheating somehow. I can hear it now, "you clearly moved down faster to the board with the Milwaukee when you started. That's why it won. Total bs test" It's just more consistent for testing. I start with the blade running in normal use as well.
Do you have a review on the M12 Jigsaw ?
I do not yet. Only the m18 fuel barrel grip. But if I must buy another new tool.... 🤣
I just got the m12 fuel impact, m12 fuel hammer drill, m12 fuel cut off saw, a m12 2.0ah battery, a m12 2.5ah battery, a m12 4.0ah battery and the m12 charger for $270. I was going to just buy the cut off saw, a battery and charger, but that was $210, so the choice was easy. I am a maintenance electrician, so the m12 platform is perfect for my needs.
Why not give away the best tools? Don't be silly, then what would be the incentive for people to pay more to get them? I am not an impact driver snob I suppose, because if it's not going to be ultra-compact so it doesn't fit in the tightest spaces anyway, then I'm fine with their brushed P235. I got it from Direct Tools as a blemished item for $21 delivered. I don't use an impact driver all day in a profession so I don't need a big overlap between what my clutched drill and my impact wrench can do. The impact driver only gets used for medium to smaller fasteners. The real question is, if you are trying to do the biggest hardest mostest possible, why even get a 1/4" drive impact driver? This is kind of why 3/8" impact drivers and wrenches exist. Right now, with the current state of the 1/4" driver market, it's easy to generate enough torque to wreck 1/4" bits. It helps that they hammer, but it's going opposing directions trying to squeeze as much as possible out of 1/4" when larger exists.
The 4 speed is important, it’s not just about power as they both have enough power at max speed
If you say so. I've been successfully using a single speed impact driver for quite a while and never stopped and thought that I failed because I didn't have more speeds. ;)
@@stinkycheese804 You didn’t understand, I am saying that speeds 1 and 2 are sometimes necessary as you don’t always need the 3 speeds, yes you can vary speeds by pressing less but it’s annoying when you are on the job, sometimes my job only requires a 1 speed so I put it there and work.
I have two of 4 speed one and been using forever and not sure what this reliability talk with Ryobi I beat it up I throw it I drop it and never had any issues
That's awesome. Years ago, when Ryobi was blueish-green, I did gutter installs. Constantly dropped them off ladders, and they still ran. I would buy a new one about every 9 months... BUT that's daily use, 6 days a week. So pretty damn good.
Well they (4 sp.) haven't even been on the market that many years, so not sure where you're getting the idea that you've been using them "forever" ? I've had no issues with my cheapest-model-they-make Ryobi impact driver, but I don't drop it a lot and I don't push it like it's a race and I want to burn out my tools to win a race. ;)
Your hands are to small for the tool. Do they sell a little kids kit?
Can't wait for the batteries to be that small lol.
Just picked up one of these for 296 after taxes including one extra free XC5. Very happy.!
Sweet
Only certain tools use the contact on the back. My brushed versions have it too. Its not related to hp
I understand...ish... originally I thought all HP tools had the contacts, thus making it a HP tool lol.
Got it for 250 very happy with this purchase
That's awesome!
Just bought it with a 5ah and a 2ah battery for $200 at Home Depot online. 😎
@@mr-toyotathat’s a great deal.
is the gen 3 m18 still worth buying
I vaguely recall them having some chuck issue, not positive on that. I honestly have no personal experience with it. I skipped that generation.
Did he just say chuck on an impact driver? and keyless???? wtf???
I also still say 220v and 110v instead of 240v and 120v. Come at me bro lol
$100 where? It costs $200+ bare without anything in my country
It's a reoccurring promotion that runs in the US. Normally at Home Depot.
You can buy better but do you need it. Ryobi is more than good enough for any homeowner. Now true professionals that work them every day thats a different story. But as a house painter/ homeowner, my ryobi tools have been great.
Agreed. For the majority of tools Ryobi is great. I was pretty disappointed by their recip saw I reviewed.
Does it really matter? All power tools are by the same what… 3 companies lol.
@@mfcbuildsI have a Ryobi recip saw, now I have to go find that video. lol
Only think i hate is m12 doesnt stand up on battery very well and the belt clip is a joke haha
Both true. If you wear a tool belt, it is king. Love being able to throw it in a pouch
I feel like the extra contacts are for higher amp devices like a hammer drill, that way it doesnt burn up contacts
Their hammer drills aren't especially high current. Maybe you're thinking of saws or leaf blowers.
I though this as well, but extra contacts were not on their HP Recip. Thought that was odd.
Just got the single speed for 40 bucks 👍
Agreed
Jesus loves you God bless
Thank you
I have them both drill and impact Glad that i bought them!! Great tools
Agreed
Dead body disposal
I have the full-size saw, but this little guy does great in confined spaces (think tight closets, interstitials, crawl spaces) and can be used one-handed. Sure--it's not as gutsy as a larger unit, but it's not designed for crazy big demo jobs, it's designed to get where nothing else can and get the needed results. I enjoy mine quite a bit, and if you work in tight spaces, then this is a great solution, especially if you are in the M12 battery platform. Thanks!
I agree with everything you said. It is a phenomenal tool for professionals on a daily basis of use. I think the normal homeowner probably isn't buying this and full size recip. I think they would be better suited with a full recip and an oscillating multitool.
Not sure why but in Canada you actually get the 4 speed in the kit lol
So weird. This was speed 1, 2, 3, A
I buy saws only in m18. m12 tools are great, but i want to have power when i do cuts.
If I was a plumber, hvac, electrician, etc... this is perfect. For me, I'm at least buying the M18 version.
Great video man. I'm on 12v and 20v Dewalt platform. The only thing stopping me from switching over from 12v to m12 is the fat grip, top heavy and many reviews claiming it gets really hot. This is for both the impact and hammer drill.
The fat grip is definitely a deal breaker for a lot of people. For me, the grip size is made up for in compactness. I like to throw my impact in a belt pouch or clip it on. Not having the large battery "square" bottom really minimized the footprint.
Good comparison between the two, but if you had to choose between the two for the homeowner, which would be the better option?
If you intend on running circular saws, routers, or sawzalls.... go 18v.
How will it go cutting tree roots thanks
I can't it imagine well... I would "think" the reciprocating action would pull dirt into it and jam up the tool. Nvr tried.
Companies always put the safety in the wrong place- it’s annoying when you are working in a difficult position and the damn tool shuts off.
I'm sure there are people who love this Safety function... I however turned the safety on instead of off almost every single time
Excellent commercial! On a serious note, thank you, Man. Love the demo and Home Depot hack explanation 😎 You got a new sub
That's awesome! Thank you so much.
Do you show the receipt when you do this hack? Or do you just return without receipt for store credit?
Return with receipt. Also, if you buy online, it has personally been a nightmare. Just buy in store and return in store
Junk glad i didnt buy it
Lol it's not that bad. For its intended use (pvc/drywall) it's great
I’m looking for an M12 lady. Small. Fierce. Plenty of juice. 🧃
I feel if you dont actually try the tools youll never like them, your mind is too bussy hating on them. Ryobi was never for indrustial or hard work, it mainlt for home use, have a garage full of ryobi tools never had an issue still going strong. Cheap and effective what else can I ask for pay double or triple for something that will do the same job.
I ran Ryobis daily for about 3 years in construction. For the 1x month user, they're great.
An impact wrench would be the right tool for them fixings in my eyes.
Agreed 100%. I talked about this in my review of the M18 Fuel impact.
Bought the M12 fuel set with the return battery for a total of $160 after, and the M18 set for $260 and don’t know which to keep. Only DIY and household applications. Thought I could future proof with M18 since I have no drills or batteries from anything but I might just keep the M12
I love the size of m12. If you are not going to get any routers or circ saws... the m18 isn't needed... but I also own 2x M12s and 1x M18 so there's that lol
When you factor in the price of the Milwaukee to the Ryobi I can buy two to the one so therefore it is twice the drill
Sounds like girl math to me 🤣. Thanks for watching.
I just got finished putting up an 8000 square foot of metal building and then have a bit of problem out of anything except for one drill that I dropped three times from 28 ft on the concrete and it broke the casing but outside of that the drill still worked and yes by the time you factor in the cost of the battery battery chargers and everything else yes they're still cheaper I can still buy about just two for one so you can call it girly mouth or whatever but it's money in my pocket
When your furnishing tools for guys to work they don't give a damn what you furnish them cuz they're not going to respect it and they're going to tear them up and don't give a crap that's why I don't go and buy them a high price tools just for them to tear up at the end of the year when you factor in the price what you spent on tools versus nine I am far money ahead 😭
The auto mode is great on the 262 model. I like the tool knowing when to stop forcing when not wanted.
That's good to know. I can see the benefits
Milwaukee says that your m18 tool has to a fuel to be able to take advantage of the high discharge rate of the high output batteries. Great video!
100% true. Did not know this at the time of testing, clearly by my reaction lol. Thanks for watching!
I think it’s about the compact size lower weight and definitely not a demo tool
Agreed. Personally, I would go with the m18 hackzall version. Should be the best of both worlds.
