Behind The Design Of An Architectural Hardware Showroom
The new flagship hardware showroom for Momo Handles on Oxford Street in Paddington is an intimate, welcoming space imbued with a distinct residential feeling. Interior design by Lane & Grove allows customers to come in, take their time and immerse themselves in the Momo product range.
The design of the store seamlessly blends into the luxurious, inner-city locale where it resides, which was central to the brief. “When a customer comes and feels the quality and weight of our product, they're more inclined to use it in their home, so we decided to create a space to showcase our product,” says Marc Bennett, marketing director at Momo Handles. “We wanted it to feel residential and give the feeling of being at home … we also used quite neutral tones throughout to showcase our product’s beautiful finishes,” says Bennett. Deb Quigley, director at Lane & Grove adds; “The brief was to create a number of different spaces - we needed to provide a work area for the staff, an interactive space for clients to hold and touch, and a semi-private meeting area.”
The hardware showroom is therefore designed to be a tactile and interactive space. “We also encouraged people to bring in samples from their build so we can match our handles with the overall style of their home,” notes Bennett. Similarly, the showroom is also the first time Momo Handles has been able to display its new collection of architectural door hardware.
Walking through the hardware showroom, the quaint space is intelligently designed to make the most of the compact floorplan. “As you walk through the front door, an island bench leads you through the space and back around. On the left-hand wall are all our designer ranges and a collection of contemporary handles, while on the opposite wall is our Momo premium collection,” explains Bennett. The zone is broken up into five unique finishes; matte black, bronze, dark brushed brass, brushed satin brass and dull brushed nickel. At the rear of the space, a mood board collection features samples from other suppliers.
In terms of the palette, Lane & Grove is selective, focusing on warm materials to soften the heavy nature of the hardware. “The warmth of the carpet and the beautiful Olive Grove green on the walls, paired with travertine render and stucco, is in direct contrast with the cold nature of the hardware,” says Quigley. “The space is not only beautiful, but it’s also very functional,” she adds.
Lighting is also used thoughtfully throughout the hardware showroom. “We added some copper spotlights over the island and then each range on the walls is backlit … while a pendant over the dining area links back to us making it a comfy home environment,” says Margot Lane, director at Lane & Grove.
The very first hardware showroom for Momo Handles, the space represents an exciting step for the brand. “We see the Momo handles showroom as an integral part of the Paddington community … we respect our customers and their time, so when they leave here, they are not only informed but like they found something they want to use in their project,” reflects Bennett.

Again another brilliant insight into a commercial aspect of Australian living. What a location! What an experience.
We're glad you enjoyed this project, this brand and location is really is something special!
❤❤❤
Stunning retail design and indeed experience. What top flight shopping should be. Excellent use of space. Really calming yet engaging. Excellent!. Retail is not dead! Online can never compete with stores and indeed brands like this! Would be on the list if visiting Brisbane.. Thank You for sharing. Excellent series.
We're glad you enjoyed this project 🙌
Very pretty...(but...no balustrades!).
Love it!
Beautiful design! Gorgeous finishes!
Beautiful work!
Shibui! Love the finishes & joinery. Tho' the kitchen counter height seems a bit low for you (& me!).
This is really just a commercial..... there is very little of architecture here. Beautiful window with a panoramic view though. Wish they would show more.
Truly beautiful, wonderful furniture choices that really suit the apartment architecture. The view of the landscape and water is incredible.
We're glad you enjoyed it!
Why is she walking so fast?
The island is sophisticated enough not wanting u to cook
BEAUTIFUL 🖤
That study area is so inviting, and we love to see an iconic DS-600 Sofa in here!
How is this a minimalist apartment again?
cluttered in my opinion
Only thing I didn't like were the wire chairs!
Oval with Points.
I do not see any wabi-sabi style in this apartment. I challenge you to give us specific wabi-sabi items here.
what was music was used 🥺. i need the playlist used in this🥲
Very nice home! And nice couple. This house is actually just up the road from me!

Finally. Someone is bringing interesting hardware to the modern times and future. Hardware used to be so ornate and intricate. These pieces are gorgeous!
We're glad you enjoyed this collaboration 🙌

Is wabi sabi in the room with us right now??
I'm in awe of this project. Never have I seen a building that's designed to interact with people. What a great idea.
My poverty is hurting, it's gorgeous😭
I know exactly the feeling 😂
Every beautiful art has a beautiful story to tell. 🧡🧡
I love the design but the untreated concrete always feels depressing to me
Blum’s involvement and their commitment to quality and family values add a special touch to the experience. Looking forward to seeing more from this spectacular event!

Even if we are few compared to the viewers of The Local Project channel I would love to see more of these releases around events. Brilliant work on both of your channels! You have had quite an impact on our latest house project :)
Thanks for the support! We're glad to hear it 🙌
Really nice
Amazing!!
This is not at all a historic Irish bar. It is a very recent fit out of an old building so that it looks like an Irish bar. Everything you see, except the stone walls, is brand new.
Everything looks modern and efficient untill you see you need to jump over bed to look on window 😵💫
The passive cooling technology in this building is amazing - a true pillar of the Melbourne skyline for many years to come. Nicely done to all involved!
We're glad you enjoyed this project 🙌
Amazing project, great architectural exterior building and luxury interiors.
We couldn't agree more!
What is sustainable about this building? The plants?😂
Yep glass, steel and concrete. Sustainable
I get that Australia is a few decades behind the rest of the world in sustainable building (this one being a great example of mid 70's passive solar pseudoscience) but it is absolutely ridiculous to claim that a glass, concrete, and metal monstrosity is somehow "carbon neutral" full stop, or even close to carbon neutral in operation. You guys cover some beautiful buildings but this level of greenwashing is shameful!
Amen to everything you said lol 💯
How absolutely stunning! Will happily fly across the pond to NZ to experience this and purchase my carpets from the team <3
We're glad to hear it 🙌
😊😊
Wow man
the brick is so gorgeous
Amazing home amazing location. Why do people compare melbourne with sydney. Its a trillion to nil. I have lived in melbourne 52 years we have nothing like this
