Not keen myself on the utes- longer overhang from axle to the hitch equals greater stress multiplier on the car. We chose the new Everest. The Lovells suspension guy we used thinks we made the right choice even above the new Cruiser.
I thought my Ranger PX111 was nice to drive until I bought a Next Gen Ford Ranger V6. They're not the biggest selling vehicle by luck, the Ranger is a great vehicle to drive day to day and when it comes to towing it does it with ease. Yep everybody knows someone with a story about every car out there so take a Ranger for a test drive, I reckon you'll love it.
Yeah, we took the v6 ranger for a drive and we are hooked! 👍😎👍
Hey Gibbo, we all need to win lotto and get the Patrol and decent van and money to have time to use it! . Good job getting it back together 😊
Cheers, mate! Yeah, you got that right!
I came across a bloke stalled 3 weeks ago near a roundabout with a decent sized van on the back..Ranger V6 not even 12months old...it just stopped..no power, nada..nothing. We checked under the bonnet no smells, build leaking..nothing unusual. Then I asked him to start the car..there was nothing on the dash..dead black as a dead dingo's dongga....no warning lights, no radio, no hazards, no lights...nothing...but the engine was still cranking and wanting to start. It seemed to be a "electronics issue"..so he called for backup..luckliy he had top roadside cover... Nuff said....
Hmmmmm....🤔🤔🤔🤔
Started off towing my 18ft road owl with a 2022 GLXR Triton after 6 months on the road we realised it wasn’t handling the job so we up graded to ford ranger XLT V6 we have just finished 7 months on the road doing about 20,000klms with no issues I not saying it’s the perfect vehicle it tows well and averages about 18 litres per 100
Cheers! 👍😎👍
Where were the life jackets as required.
Back on the bank - first time we have ever forgotten. Maybe too excited about the new kayak. LOL
Looking good mate. I remember you saying your warranty was voided because of the mods. All mods are covered under ford/ARB when ordered with vehicle. Give it a look see mate.👍
Yes, we are aware of that - thank you though. That's what will be doing, if we go that way. Anya
Yeah, you're right, we want to order the v6 with mods, so it is under warranty. 👍😎👍
Have a dmax towing 20ft van with no problems so far uses more fuel which is to be expected all in all a ripper of a car in my opinion but everyone to there own cheers Craig
Thanks Craig, yeah our mechanic friends all recommend.
Need a ford ranger
Yes, the V6 is very nice. Anya
Yep, the v6 is our choice at this stage.
I know what you are talking about re the vehicles ie Landcruisers, Patrols etc - they are really holding their values. I have a 1992 80 series land cruiser - 4.1 litre diesel none turbo plus a 2001 land cruiser GXL 100 series 4.1 turbo diesel. I would not sell them and although I don't tow a van either but those types of vehicles would be ideal and reliable for your needs.
Yep, more reliable than any of the new ones! 👍😎👍
You are so right! Anya
Great to see you back. Have missed you.
Thanks, mate!
Thanks for watching - well we won't be travelling again until we have a vehicle sorted. Fingers crossed it won't take long. Anya
Thank you for the few minutes of the accident. ✔️✔️✔️ Appreciated!
Thanks for watching.
Bit of disaster mate, but at least you're breathing You really have to be careful modifying these late model cars And the dealers know , find out when they scan the car any excuse not to pay out
Too true, mate, no one hurt. A very expensive lesson learnt.
Thanks for the comment. Always learning! Anya
Excellent video, thank you
Thanks for watching!
Cheers, glad to help. We still love it.
How many klms on the car? And was the tune a plug and play or was it a mafless tune done on a dyno?
96 000km, firmware update not plug and play and not done on a dyno.
@@madgibbo44 ok. I’ve always been a bit wary of plug and plays as each car engine is slightly different.
@@anto11b I'll never do it again!
I feel your pain guys. I have a stock standard 2020 79 series ute. I purchased it new and in the first year asked Toyota if they could install a pre-filter in the fuel line. They said no and said if I did it would void the warranty on the engine. I suggested that it would actually be beneficial for the fuel system but they were adamant it would enable them to walk away from any warranty claim that could be linked back to anything to do with the fuel. It may be possible to challenge them on it, but they've got a bit more money than me. Consequently I have left everything absolutely stock in every way. I hate not having the benefit of a pre filter, but I don't want to lose the 7 year warranty it came with. Best of luck with whatever decision you make.
Thank you. Yes, we've learnt to leave everything standard so as not to void the warranty. 👍😎👍
Thanks for the comment. I can't believe the poor quality of cars these days and don't try to improve them..... warranty gone. Can't afford to challenge them, as you say. We are still making decisions on where to go from here. Anya
Thats gut wrenching guys, there should be a law-against these types of aftermarket alterations.
Thanks, mate, I 100% agree!
I can't believe that companies grab your money and don't explain the consequences. I don't know how they sleep at night. Different if you know and happy to take a chance. Anya
2$ fuel is cheap mate. Wait till you get to Alice.
Can't wait to get to Alice, but definitely not looking forward to the fuel prices then.
Love your attitude guys !!! So sorry that happened..
Thank you! 👍😎👍
Thanks - we are trying so hard to get back on the road, but are constantly being thrown a curveball. Lets hope it all works out. Anya
We used to have a Mq. We had a scan gauge so I could see the water and oil temps etc. We towed 2300kg. Frightened me so sold and bought something more suitable.
Wow! These gauges should be standard in all vehicles! 👍😎👍
@madgibbo44 they should. Our Ram 1500 does standard. Oil temp, oil presdure, water temp, transmission temp. What you need to know what you're vehicle is doing when under load.
That would have been useful. Anya
Did u do a fuel sample ?
Fuel was fine, unfortunately.
Chipping the engine may well of had nothing to do with the failure, but what it did do is void your warranty.
It was certainly an easy out for Mitsubishi.
But then again, it probably did!
I have a friend who did a remap on his Triton and it blew up at 40,000km. He also got told to have sex and travel by Mitsi.
I wish I heard all these horror stories earlier as all I heard were beautiful fairy tales. 😂🤣😂🤣 I wish Mitsi told me to have sex and travel!
Yep I know quite a few Mitsubishi at work have blown up so they won't bye them anymore.
Yep, never again.
I was so close to doing the same engine upgrade to my mr triton, glad i didnt now, i figured, the gains seemed huge without any supporting mods, hope it all works out for u guys
How many of us have been caught out! Thank you so much for your comment. We are currently picking up our Triton, it's running well, but we have to decide what we do from here. You have the first intel on this 😉
Thank you, yes please don't do it as it will be an extremely expensive mistake! 👍😎👍
2.4l engine , its tiny. 1600kg max. Car manufacturer’s are full of bs.
Yep
Yep, lesson learnt!
If I may, these generation of small capacity engines are in simple words To Highly Strung. Service intervals should be shortened whilst these vehicles are being pushed towards towing ridiculous Heavy Weight Caravans. Quality filters, engine oil, Auto transmission service should be all considered. Intercooler upgrades and Auto transmission cooler upgrades / upgrades to auto should be considered. Marketing have a lot to answer for, the way these vehicles are promoted, it’s all BS especially in long term ownership, without certain modifications. GVM upgrades are in my humble opinion are a con. My reason, upgrading the suspension, slapping on an engineer certificate compliance plate does not address the stock engine/ transmission/ driveline which has been engineered to a specification from Factory. Otherwise these vehicles would come from Factory with the up grade already factored in. Start tuning/ flash ECU’s ridiculous, over size tyres and lifts all ways compromise the vehicle and owners are now paying the price. I personally run a scan gauge and on one trip across the Paddock the Auto transmission temp soared as I pushed into the hot headwinds, I was towing a tandem trailer / light load and I have a auto trans cooler upgrade on my 11 year old DMAX. So environmental factors need to be considered. Many may disagree with me on my opinion and that’s fine, however the KISS PRINCIPLE and the 7 P’s vary rarely let you down.
Yes, mate, I totally agree with you and wish we had spoken to someone like you before we made these very expensive mistakes! 👍😎👍
Thank you so much for your comment - you put a lot of time into that and we really appreciate it. Yes - marketing does have a lot to answer for. We have learnt so much from this experience. Now looking into a new vehicle and it's so hard to get something within our budget and that's reliable - so hard. Anya
I thought the ecu update companies warrant their work when the mods might have caused the issue? we all know the manufacturer will not ever cover that (not warranty of the manufacture fault)
Yes, we have to look into the warranty of the remapping. Anya
So sorry to see what's happened. These types of vids are popping up on my feed. I watched one recently about a couple who blew their Prado engine. It was caused by a hole in their radiator, which had a chain reaction and catastrophic end. Insurance covered them because the hole could've been caused by a passing truck or car flicking up a stone. They were lucky to have their repairs under insurance. Really scares me as we are heading west for 3-4 months next year and seeing a few of these awful outcomes where good folk are stranded and thousands of dollars in repairs. 😢
Thank you! Unfortunately, this is furtherest we've travelled up to date and the first time anything major has happened and it's cost us around $25,000. All I can say is don't modify your vehicle so you don't lose your warranty, have RAA highest cover, make sure you have a reliable insurance company that will cover all your needs, and then it's in the hands of the gods! If we can afford to keep going, we will because we love it so much. Don't let my bad luck scare you from your adventures! 👍😎👍
Thanks for your comment. It's crazy how many engine issues there are of late. These people are very lucky to have such an outcome. Please be careful, make sure your weights are all good and DON'T do any mods to your vehicle. Safe travels and we hope you get go enjoy our beautiful country. Anya
Unfortunately the ecu upgrade would have caused it Them motors are strong as and have never seen one just blow up If the ecu upgrading was so good the manufacturers would be doing them
I wish we had known this before, but not being mechanically minded and trusting people, we've made a lot of mistakes along the way.
@@madgibbo44 the dealership has said the ecu upgrade caused it so go back to whoever did it and Demand they replace the motor threaten legal action against them
I think you are right in saying that.....to be investigated. Anya
Just built a 355 holden and th400 for patrol ,now i can trust it......way better to drive as well.
I don't doubt that at all.
Hi guys did you talk to the guys that tuned your engine. They all have a guarantee on their work and they are liable when things go wrong
Yes, but unfortunately, no luck.
I think we need to look at this - thank you for your comment. Anya
There was a old case where a Dealership was fitting chips as a "add on extra"during the new car sales process,of course once the motors started blowing up,no warranty ,and the "Sales Consultant"who organised the chipping was hung to dry by the Dealership for running a unauthorised side hustle. If the chipping company is so crash hot lets see them warranty them without more excuses than a dogs got fleas
Interesting - thanks for your comment. Loving everyone's views on this matter. We are learning a lot. Anya
I knew a Ford Dealer chipping Rangers from new but they gave an after market warranty that covered the mods.
why would you pick a triton as a tow rig??? pure lunacy
Because we had no idea as we were new and listened to the wrong people.
Live and learn!
Bugger, it is a great area up there. A friend travelled with a heavy van for 4 yrs no problem. Got a tune and ended up with a cracked piston next trip. 12k later all sorted. Wont be getting mine tuned.
Yeah, it sure is beautiful. Please don't!!
It's a beautiful part of the country. DO NOT TUNE - live and learn. Anya
Get the fuel tested could very well be the cause especially if you just filled up
👍😎👍
Apparently, the fuel was okay, but who do you trust. Couldn't afford independent testing on top of stress and time. Really appreciate your comment. Anya
$2000.00 to 6000.00 because the engine blown what sort of dogs do that
Sorry, not sure I understand the comment. Anya
It ended up costing us over $20,000 in the end.
I noticed the 2 large driving lights in front of the grill. This would reduce the air into the radiator. I watched a video of a Nissan that had done the same thing and the warranty was voided , the engine ghar 2 cooked cylinders.
Yes, i think this was a contributing factor and we also have a winch that's probably restricting airflow too. We are going to remove them. We've learnt a lot, but unfortunately it's cost us a lot for the lesson. 👍😎👍
Yep, we're on it!
Sadly too many ppl think a gvm upgrade will also cover the extra work the engine/gearbox are doing. You found out the hard way you pushed the engine beyond its limits. Problem ismt the engines, problem is ppl expecting them to work beyond what they are designed for & too much fancy marketing by 3rd party businesses.
Absolutely Spanky! We were very naive when it came to vehicles and caravans. Unfortunately it's been an expensive lesson for us. 👍😎👍
You are sending a boy to do a mans job, buy a truck
This is what I'm finding out! 👍😎👍
Yep, truck isn't in the equation - so we'll have to have a big think about where we go from here.
I bought a 2023 hilux , pulls like a train and doesn't need any add on performance shit
I've been hearing bad comments about the hilux, especially the landcuisers. Apparently, the old ones are heaps better. 👍😎👍
I don't mind the Mitsubishi's I've had good runs with the one's Ive own in the past Your ECU upgrade might be doggie if you want more power buy a 4x4 with a bigger motor not a ford or Mazda with that ticking time bomb 5 cylinder diesel that you mostly see on tow trucks
Bad deal for sure but in interests of education for others could you possibly follow up with a video of what went wrong exactly with that engine by someone who’s qualified to do a report on it Once armed with that information go ahead and see what response there is from the tune company and Mitsubishi (consumer law will override there warranty denial regardless they must prove the tune caused the engine failure ) These things generally don’t happen by accident that’s why it’s a good thing to analyse Perhaps fitting an EGT gauge in future could be helpful also I assume your fuel was checked after that last fill up ? Information is power ! Good luck JA
Will do! 👍😎👍
Thanks for the comment. Seems that even if the remapping wasn't the cause - it voids your warranty 'full-stop'. Yes, we will put out another video explaining the situation - we are still confused where to go from here. Seems no car is fit to pull a caravan unless it's a truck. Gibbo has been doing a lot of research into the new vehicles and seems they all have issues - crazy. Apparently, the fuel was fine. Anya
@ Don’t be let them bluff you I would suggest contacting John Cadogan he has dealt with many warranty disputes Auto expert I know Mitsubishi are denying warranty with bluff that’s what they do that’s what manufacturers almost always do even when the fault is totally there’s or when the consumer law over rides it (that’s why there have been some big class actions happening in recent years such as the Hilux one) assuming your car has the 4N15 engine according to forums I’ve looked at it appears to have a DPF regeneration issue at times causing extreme high exhaust gas temps this can be looked for in the ECU logs It may be necessary to have a solicitor draft a letter to both Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi Australia not the dealer to the right person) and the re map provider to remind them both of there obligations this will often cause them to rethink there current response You might find a solicitor or possibly a barrister to work on contingency arrangement
So sad sorry things have gone this way.
Thanks mate! 👍😎👍
Thank you, it means a lot. Seems this is happening to a lot of other travellers these days. Anya
Life’s a gamble but in this instance it wasn’t an accident, you’re both OK as is the van and in you never stop learning. Wish you both well and if the opportunity arises give it another go in the future. Vehicles are much more complicated nowadays and I’ve even resorted to carrying a scan tool if an error message pops up and the damn things go into limp mode. Never used to be like that. Cheers
Yep, I 100% agree, mate!
Thanks for the comment. Totally agree - that's why we have a good attitude about the situation. Heard of a few people now that carry the scan tool. Anay
Really feel sorry for you two, remember you lost the fight not the war so don't give up get back out there as soon as you can and enjoy your life together. If I won the lotto I would pay your repair bill and give you some money to keep going. I would go myself except I am heading towards 80 and I have no one to go with. Ha ha 😅
Crazy putting in a second hand motor .
I hope you're wrong, we couldn't afford a new one.
@@madgibbo44damned if you do, damned if you don’t! Give the secondhand engine a go, if you can get as much history information as possible on it, and it’s impeccable, odds are you’ll be fine. Good luck with it.👍
Go get some training…
Get a life! 😂😂😂😂
We all have our moments.
Gvm upgrade still 2.3 ltr?,same trans,brakes,diffs,cooling system,maybee axle rating.all working overtime.
Correct - upgrading to a new vehicle.
Had a 16ft van about 1.8t ..manual tritan, wouldn't want to stop on a hill,no turbo untill about 2k revs 😢 had to put in low range to get moving or madly ride the clutch useless for a tow vehicle .
Ours towed great, but didn't realise the poor baby was working so hard. Anya
Hi sorry to hear about all your problems and a good help for people thinking about vehicle mods.
Thank you. Yes, I hope people can learn off our mistakes.
Thank you - a lot of people didn't know.
