Painting my Perch on a Shad Rap KO
I know I have painted this pattern on a small Jerk-bait before but it is my most popular pattern and it is flat out catching fish from Maine to Georgia and Ohio to Calgary Alberta so I am painting it again, this time on a Knock off of a Rapala Shad Rap.
Besides making videos showing you guys how, as a beginner lure painter, I go about painting these patterns, I am also selling these lures down at my buddy Bobby's shop, the Smith River Trading Post and I am trying to keep the Tackle wall Full for a 10% off sale between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So bear with me if I'm repeating this pattern, I will try to keep coming up with new patterns in the future.
Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays to you all.......Peace

I also know it has caught fish not only here in New Hampshire but also in Maine, New York, Ohio, Texas and Georgia. It has become so popular that I have expanded the offering to include not only the original, this Shad Rap KO, a Lipless Crankbait and a Whopper Plopper type lure and just got a request from a repeat customer today to paint this pattern on a Popper and a Spook type lure as well. Beautiful pattern! Shad raps never fail to deliver (even KOs), by far one of the most productive lures I've ever used but in chartreuse color so seeing them in perch color scheme is really nice. My experience with Createx colors was so far overall positive and I don't think they need to be reduced a lot, especially non pearl colors (transparents and opaques) which I don't even reduce because they don't have any metal flake that can clog up. So far my only negative experience with airbrush colors was with Model air colors from Vallejo but I think I didn't shake them long enough so I was either pouring straight pigment or just fluid with barely any pigment in the cup. How did the surgery go?

      @@jurajanal2277 hello Jura, glad to hear from you after my Giveaway snafu. With the Createx paints I’m finding that it is imperative to reduce the Pearls but I agree that the Opaques and Transparent paints don’t need it as much or at all. You could see the effect of reducing that Detail Moss Green too much , thankfully I was able to over it up. I just started using some of the color shifting paints from Vallejo which you will see me use in some upcoming videos and although I can’t speak about the model air paints, I will say the Shifters are already as thin as water. Still waiting for my surgery which was rescheduled for Feb. 13th . Thanks for asking !

    I buy lure blanks too, to save money. I suck at painting so usually I just add hooks, and fish them clear. Sometimes I'll sand the backs with course sandpaper, and hit them with a black sharpie, if I'm bored. I do think a big eye can make a difference though, so for that, again, I just use a sharpie.

    • @RaggedEdgeLureWorks
      @RaggedEdgeLureWorks 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Fish-Erman Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I have fished transparent lures before but never a clear blank. Personally I have been more of a soft plastic bait angler in the past but after starting this hobby of painting I am using crank-baits a whole lot more. I really enjoy painting and trying to come up with patterns that I think will catch fish while showing that it is not really hard to paint lures and with a moderate initial investment it can be a really fun hobby. Lots of times I don’t think the fish care how fancy a paint job is, they’ll hit just about anything. Fancy painted lures catch more fisherman than fish…lol.

    For reducing I use a 50/50 mix of Createx reducer and UVLS. The UVLS makes the paint flow well and it’s tougher when you use any kind of stencil. On difficult paints like the Createx Pearlized or metallics I usually have to add a few drops of straight reducer Nice paint job

    • @RaggedEdgeLureWorks
      @RaggedEdgeLureWorks 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Indyjeeplover Thanks for the tip. I have just started using 4030 at a 10 to 1 ratio (Createx paint to 4030) I then add my 4011 at approximately 50/50. The 4030 is also supposed to enhance flow and paint adhesion but I am only using it on my white base coat so far. I’ll look into the UVLS. l really appreciate comments like this. I am always trying to learn as I go since this is all kinda new to me and I’ve only been paint for less than a year. Do you add the UVLAS to every color you paint ? ( let’s say your 1st coat being your base white primer, 2nd coat being a Chartreuse coat before adding stencil work) . Thanks again !

    • @Indyjeeplover
      @Indyjeeplover 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I personally use UVLS/reducer mix in about all my Createx paints and sometimes others, though probably 95% of my paints are Createx. The Wicked line takes less than the original ones but I still add some. I feel If you use the UVLS/reducer mix it not only makes the paint tougher but it also about eliminates tip dry. I thin my paints enough that I typically shoot at 20# or less. When I watch TH-cam channels I can usually tell who doesn’t thin their paint because there will be overspray on anything in their booth. They have to use higher pressure and it blows the paint over a wider area. IT REALLY helps flow with pearls and metallics I do use Golden Titanium White as it’s a more intense and brighter than Createx IMO. Another tip…..obviously you can use satin gold under colors like orange or green, and particularly yellow to get more vibrant colors. If you want to really make them pop use Createx Gold Chrome. Be advised that this particular color requires a few extra steps. If you are interested reply and I’ll fill you in. In sunlight they look like they have a light inside

    • @RaggedEdgeLureWorks
      @RaggedEdgeLureWorks 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ Awesome info, thanks ! I typically shoot my paints at <15 psi and when doing detail work <10 psi. I was not thinning my paints for quite a while but was getting a lot of spatters, tip dry etc. as I guess you would expect. I am now reducing all of my paints close to 50/50. Really interested in hearing more about the Gold Chrome and how you use it ! On another note, can you tell me what airbrush you use ? I started out really cheap when I started out and the set up I bought came with a Master G22, (.035 tip ) was having issues with it and got a Iwata Neo with a .035 nozzle tip from Hobby Lobby for $69, it’s better but not great. I then bought a Master G33 and like the .05 tip and it’s working out ok for $35.00 from Amazon. My buddy Kris who is a really great lure builder/ painter swears by the Iwata HP-CS but it’s a little pricy @ $179.00 for my budget….. maybe in time. Just curious what others are using. Thinning paints properly has made a huge difference with my cheaper airbrushes performing better but they can still be frustrating. I am grateful for any info you are willing to share .

    • @Indyjeeplover
      @Indyjeeplover 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I have three brushes, though I’m only using two. My main brush is a HP-CS eclipse with the .35 tip. As noted, it’s quite a bit more costly but my philosophy is that I’m going to use it quite a bit and I’m not going to suffer along with inferior equipment. After all, is $75-$100 really that much today? My second brush for detail work is a Creos 771 which is usually even more expensive but I got it $100 off during a sale at Spraygunner. It runs at low pressure which is great for detail work. Has a .18 tip. My third is a Neo. The Neo is not quite as precise and more tricky to clean. Haven’t used it in over a year As for the frustrating part, I’ve virtually eliminated issues by being EXTREMELY careful about dried paint on my bottle caps. It only takes a super small piece significantly smaller than a piece of sand to clog the tip..Before you dispense paint look at the cap. If there is any, and I mean any hardened paint I either pick it off or clean it off with alcohol or reducer. Be sure to look inside the opening where the paint comes out. I cringe when I see guys flip up the cap and squirt paint into their brush. Asking for issues.

    • @Indyjeeplover
      @Indyjeeplover 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Gold Chrome….per Createx, it MUST be used over a smooth white base, be shot at a minimum of 40# using a minimum.35 tip, and be applied in 4-5 very light coats that are dried to the touch between coats. Otherwise it pools

    Wonderful lures! I've never used a crawler for topwater, only spooks and frogs, tho I'm sure you're already editing a video with winner picked. Anyway, wish you best of luck with shoulder surgery, I've read in another comment that it was delayed but it is what it is. My grandma has her eye surgery in february so I feel you somewhat.
