🤨🤔Odd ~( 3:35 ) when My family was touring Virginia City in the early 60s the information that was given there was the two-story brick building on the main street, housed the first Governers office and General Thomas Francis Magher became the first assigned and acting Governor, taking over for the temporary person - that handed Governor Magher the office papers in a briefcase and jumped into the same stagecoach that Governor Magher just stepped out of. Later the capital was declared to be in Helena "after a Copper King" tried by hook or crook to have it be made in Anaconda. Governor Magher lost His life in suspicious circumstances in the town of Fort Benton, He was last known to be aboard a large boat docked on the Yellowstone river. The county named Magher is in His honor. Being part Irish and Montana born, I've read about this version in several well-written books and articles accepted by a lot of well-studied people that write about these sorts of things. Yup❕

They kept it secret, later moving to a new district (several times) and finally in Columbus, ohio they settled. Of course things had changed over time. Funny some of the old rules.
